OT: Cooks traded to Texans

Imagine trading Hopkins and then bringing in Cooks.

Remember when he signed the megadeal after we traded him and 100% of the articles about it said "finally, he found a team to stay at forever"?

It's pretty crazy how short sighted the sports writers who make 6 digit salaries are on a consistent basis. Then again, being correct doesn't necessarily make their employees money.

I know. And basically all they got back was a 4th rounder. BOB really needs to step down as GM and hire someone that knows what they are doing.

Something about this guy... he looks great in every uniform...

... except the one your team wears. o_O

I liked Cooks well enough here, outside of his spastic performance in the Super Bowl. But the dude always seems like less than the sum of his parts - he's got great physical talent, and by all accounts works hard and doesn't cause any trouble. That SHOULD make him a superstar, but instead he's just... pretty good? Nice to have, but not worth the big bucks?

I mean on paper he's basically a Tyreek Hill who keeps his nose clean, but he's so NOT that on the field.

So does Les Snead of the Rams. Huge contracts to Cooks, Gurley and Goff: what are you thinking?

One podcast I just listened to pointed out that three people thought to be the best offensive coaches in the league, Sean Payton, Josh McDaniels and Sean McVay, just passed on him one after the other. His price has been going down, now a 2nd round pick. I'm not sure you can even say Cooks is a #1 receiver, but he sure is getting paid like one.

Can’t figure out which cliche and/or pithy sarcasm is most applicable.

I remember being stoked when we traded for Cooks. I thought he was going to be a stud here. He had a decent year but he’s as you said nice to have and a complimentary player. I think he does great with the 9 and comeback routes but his release at the line sucks, he isn’t an elite route runner & doesn’t have the frame to go over the middle.

You have to wonder after 4 teams in 5 years what the underlying problem is with Cooks. Body odor, staring at teammates too long in the shower, cheating at dominos, its gotta be something that drives his teammates nuts.

No character problem or anything. It's that he makes $17M/yr and yes is a perennial 1000 yard receiver but he's not elite, he's basically very very good. He gets moved because he chased the dollar signs as his #1 priority and as a player he's not totally worth what he's paid every year.

His contract. Cooks was a bargain until his 5th year option and big money contract the rams gave him.

I seem to remember them trying last year.

Saints traded him because he became expendable with the development of Michael Thomas and recouping a first was a good deal for a player they did not desperately need. The Pats then traded him because they weren't going to sign him long-term for the money that he wanted (and ended up getting from the Rams). The Rams now traded him because of the stupid contract they gave him when they traded for him.

Jules wasn't supposed to go down for the year.

I keep seeing "sports writers who make six figure salaries" on here, in a resentful way (I think). $100,000 certainly doesn't make anyone anywhere near rich, especially if supporting a family. The best way to destroy the quality of the work in a profession is to drive the salaries down.

So the rumor is that the BB imposter didn’t want to pay Hopkins, yet trades him for two broken down guys with two bad contracts.

Unbelievable.
