His arm has been so, so underrated by everyone who hasn't actually been watching every one of his games for the pats two decades -- mostly because it doesn't jive with a certain mainstream narrative.

I saw a game from 2007 not long ago and couldn't even follow the ball it was zipping so fast.

Absolutely a narrative. If you look at actual MPH measurements, it really punches holes in the dumb idea that certain guys like Stafford, Flacco, etc. actually have some off the charts arm strength. And a lot of guys not known for velocity are near the top. Such a scam listening scouts swear by their unscientific evaluations. They are just wrong...like trying to tell the difference between a 94 and 97 MPH fastball without a radar gun.

1. His desire to act like he needed to prove it every single day to deserve the spot on the team. Everything else was a result of that drive.

2. Incredible ability to process plays post snap, quickly interpret information, then make the best decision.

3. Understanding how to maximize leverage in the pocket

Brady's arm strength always increased whenever he actually had a downfield receiver to throw to. It was uncanny.

Hell, just giving him Chris Hogan suddenly made his deep ball numbers jump in 2016 IIRC.

The ability to snatch Victory from defeat. Brady won a lot games that should have been losses. I know there is a rumors about that some staffer claiming anyone could have done that lol, we all know that's BS.

I voted footwork and movement (clutch ability 2nd) because for me it translated into command of the pocket.

Been watching since 1976, and the 3 best QBs in the pocket were also the 3 best QBs I've ever seen.

A king who was overlooked for his greatness and carried that on for his entire career, that's why he is the greatest of all time.

Actually it is more like that he know he was overlooked, he used it as a motivation to do all the work that other guys do not want to go through, this was obviously if you watch every single documentary featuring Tom, he repeated hammer this point. It's almost like gurus only offer simple advises because well, success is simple, just that not many people are willing to go through the hoops and pains to get it.

I was about to add a laugh emoji. Then I remembered that Belichick guided a Matt Cassell led team to 11-5, including 6-2 down the stretch.

With halfway decent quarterbacking, Belichick can put the Patriots in a position to win. The question now is whether Brady can succeed in a new environment and prove he was at least as relevant to Patriot success as Belichick.

I don't see how we can ever get an answer to the TB/BB question. Neither will win another SB until Brady is done.

The new question is what's more difficult, Brady winning a SB with TB or BB winning a SB in NE without TB?

I think Brady fit a lot of those characteristics, but there's one that isn't there. What made BB a perfect fit was Brady's willingness to accept authority. Not many top QBs would do that, especially if they already had 3 Lombardis in their pocket.

Brady’s arm strength was always excellent. Other fans scoff at “the system” but arm strength is a must in this system. Can’t throw the slants like he does without a great arm or they’d get knocked down or picked.

I can tell you what made him different directly from an ex-Patriot coach I know. His ability to process information was his strongest asset from what he said. They throw a lot at QBs at that level and he said he had never seen anyone who had the ability to process the large volume of information Brady did. He said they would throw more at him than he had seen before and Brady often came back for more.

He said that Josh trusted his ability to make the right choice so much that Josh and Dante would have huge arguments about blocking schemes. Dante would want to keep someone in to protect Brady's blind side for instance, and Josh would always say something to the effect "he'll get rid of the ball. Let's do this with that blocker instead". Dante wanted to protect the franchise qb and Josh had enough faith in Brady to take some chances.

Brady is such an interesting case. He has more big wins and comebacks than any other QB in the history of the game but has few spectacular plays. He rarely makes "how did he do that" type of plays like a Rogers of Mahomes and because of that they get the "more talented" moniker thrown their way. His strength is his consistency, taking what is available and avoiding mistakes. He was obviously incredible late against the Seahawks, Falcons, Jags, Chiefs..... in those comebacks but it was clutch throw after clutch throw vs highlight reel material. I think its why many opposing fans do not give hims quite the respect he deserves. His quick decision making made the OL appear better than it was, incredible consistency offensively kept the defense away from high leverage situations and his ability to be successful with fewer top skill players provided the cap space to have such a talented back half of roster. Having the GOAT leading the team I root for has been a huge privilege.

There are lots of arm chair QBs and Monday morning quarterbacks and fanboy fantsy pants fans who love to comment on how great he is. But really... it is a really really difficult position to play and that makes the analysis of how it gets done so well very complicated.

After watching sb36 again it was amazing to see him as a first year player again. There were a lot of bad plays. But he came thru with great throws at important moments.. i.e.. end of half , end of game. Meanwhile the stats were not that impressive. Hmmmmm.

Then you look at the rest of the Superbowls and big games.. just wow. 20 years and counting... What items stood out to you watching him play all those games? Having all the replays to watch the last few days gives a better analysis , IMO. The temptation is to say all of the above but that doesn't separate what makes him the greatest. Please choose the biggest reasons and the most important.... Thx.

I believe it will be tougher for Tom to win a Super Bowl in Tampa. It is a whole new system and Arians a bigger ego than Belichick. More worrisome, however, is the four years of declining play that -- although owing to a variety of factors -- likely has something to do with age.

Belichick will struggle this season but isn't being forced to change his status quo. If anything, I have to think this year will be a nice breather since expectations will be very low compared to every year with Brady. If Stidham is even as good as Matt Cassell in 2008 and we have a few solid drafts, we could return to a top 5 team in 2-3 years.

I agree that TB has the tougher task. He definitely showed his age last year in a struggling offense.
