Ok, Ok, I know Tom Brady has been discussed to death.

With the news of Tom Brady going to Tampa Bay the narrative has been all about the blame game. Who's fault is it? Belichick, Brady, or Kraft

Once we get past the 'shock value' of coming to terms with the fact that Brady will not be wearing a Pats uniform, can we actually even contemplate that this was best for everyone?

Here's my perspective on things.

The Pats offense was a mess last season. It was tough to watch. They didn't need a paint job, they needed a massive overhaul. Unless they were willing to make that complete overhaul, I didn't want to see Brady come back and well 'not be Brady'. No one wants to see superman not be super. That's what we got last season. Brady showed clear frustration all of last season and never really seemed to be enjoying himself. Without an overhaul, it just seems to be getting worse.

So I was rooting for him to retire. You had a great career, nothing more to prove. Let's close the book, retire a Patriot and you won't have to suffer through more frustrations.

But he didn't want to do that. That's fine. Now that he's in Tampa Bay he has some weapons again that could help make TOm Brady look like Tom Brady.

Ask yourself, what scenario would you rather see play out.........

Brady goes to Tampa Bay and goes 9-7 or 8-8 but looks good while throwing 34 TDs in a top 10 offense.

OR

Brady stays in New England and has his first losing record as a start in his entire career while continuing to be frustrated with the lack of weapons around him.

I love watching Brady and having him be 'our guy' but the reality is that he is old and can't compensate for everyone else's mistakes anymore.

Short of retiring, going to Tampa (a non-conference opponent) where he might be able ot put up stats again isn't so bad.

I have a really hard time believing that Brady and Belichick would ever have a losing record together. With all the offensive dysfunction last year, they went 12-4 (and very realistically could have gone 13-3), and the defense looks largely intact this year. Even if it took a step back, I see 10-6 as the worst it could be.

I won't go as far as you and say it's a "good" thing, but I agree it was probably the right thing for the two sides at this stage, given what they're both trying to do. I expect Brady to have a better 2020 than the Patriots, but would not be surprised to see the Patriots have a better 2021 and beyond, IF they can find a reasonable QB. It's not going to be Brady (very likely no one will be again), but there were good, Super Bowl winning QB's before Brady showed up, and there will be again.

Their offense was a mess last year because of a bunch of unforeseen injuries. Yes, the Pats were criminally negligent at the TE position (I know they brought some bodies in but that they didn't draft even one guy was beyond comprehension) but they were supposed to be a strong running team but then Sony got hurt, key O-line players got hurt, Harry got hurt, Sanu got hurt, Gordon and Brown flamed out, Meyers couldn't translate his success on the training field to the playing field, Gost needed surgery (and was ultimately cut), etc.

That's not necessarily bad preparation that's a lot of bad luck. Sure, the offense was going to take a step back with Gronk retiring but their plans to move forward failed for the most part.

That left them at a crossroads this year. I think they realized they needed to do a lot more work than they anticipated on offense...and since that's the case, why not move on from Brady? Belichick has said time and again, he'd rather move on from a player a year or two early than a year or two late. And this fits with his philosophy.

Getting a #1 WR and shoring up the OL would have been enough to get them rolling again.

It's a nice bonus that Brady is going to a team in which Pats fans should have very little (to no) ill will towards.

Good post showing the reality of last year and the possibility of a repeat. Last year was enough to see it was time for a shift.

The thing that jumped out was mobility. Look at every other team and their QBs are making 5-10 more first downs per game with QBs mobility.

Pocket QBs live and die with surgical success. Without high comp%, it's a failure cuz a guy scrambling gets the drive saving first down that boosts his stats. And mcd offense didn't adjust.

Plus Brady gets the refreshing change of scenery.. dippyshyt talk radio doesn't like tampa... but it's really a great fit for brady. He gets 50m, new offense, and natural grass to play on in warm weather. Much more comfy for old player. Good move.

They blew it at both the TE and WR positions. Gordon was a bailout from Goodell, and that Brown was only available because he didn't want to play in Oakland.

Brady went to Tampa to pad his stats and wallet...period!

The 2018 NE offense was not good. We all thought that we would see big WR/TE changes for the better in 2019. The NE run game looked promising as Sony turned it on down the stretch. The 2019 NE offense was worse from the eye test. No TE to speak of, WR corp in shambles and the run game struggled.

As of today. 2020 NE offense does not look improved at all. Its hard to fathom Brady having a less frustrating season than last if he had stayed in NE. Were kind of riding on hope that Harry can do a LOT more. Hope that Sony will rebound into 2018 form. Hope that the Pats draft another WR who actually shows up this season. Hoping that the OL can come together with the loss of Dante Scar.

I honestly have the Bucs in the Superbowl...or at least the NFC title game.....

And I think Brady is gonna light it up....

The offense needed re-tooling, and the QB position needed to transitioned in at most 2-3 years.

That most likely would have required some short-term pain and also some longer-term pain.

Now we have intensified the short-term pain. Arguably, I guess, the end of the whole process might be nearer, though, if even a serviceable QB emerges in the next 2 years.

Big IF, though.

Brady went to Tampa to pad his stats and wallet...period!

He went there because it's the best place that would give him an opportunity to win a 7th ring. He took less money than LA Chargers were offering.

If you look st their schedule... only 3 games have chance of cold weather.. vs 12 for NE. Much better chance of staying healthy which is what he needs first and foremost at 43. Knocking on wood..

One thing is that when the Pats went to all those Super Bowls there was maybe only 1 or 2 other teams in the AFC that stood in their way. This year's NFC will be a gauntlet - Niners, Seahawks, Saints, Packers and maybe even the Rams, Vikings, or Eagles. It's unlikely with the team they currently have the Bucs would end up with the 1 seed. Even as a 2 seed with the new playoff format Brady would have to go through some pretty tough teams just to get to the SB.

I think it's going to be good for both parties.

I saw a crabby old Eff out there last year, freezing out receivers because they didn't place their foot (think a little bit of zig vs zag) where he wanted them to. I saw a guy locked in to Jules because he didn't trust anyone else. I saw a guy who didn't want to put in the off-season work (OTAs, Montana ranch) like he did when he was young and hungry, and not worn down by Bill. I saw a guy who's the consummate professional who had outgrown Bill. I think he'll have a bit of a renaissance in Tampa, and they'll be good.

In Foxboro, I think N'keal Harry will have a break out season. Jacobi Meyers will be better. The line will be better, they signed a new FB, and I have to believe there's help coming at TE. I think they will win ugly, we will all b*tch about it, and they'll end up somewhere 10-6/11-5 range, because Bill is still Bill, and they still have key leadership guys (Slate, McCourty, High).

Everyone is going to be just fine.

The new playoff format takes effect in 2021...so there are still two BYEs per conference.

Like @Coolade said....not many cold weather games, much better offensive weapons, and a coach who is gonna let Brady sling the ball...I like the Bucs' chances.

Winston's interceptions really killed the Bucs last year...if Winston threw *only* 15 INT's...they were a play-off team, IMO. And Brady has never ever thrown more than 14 in a season....

If Brady throws as many 50-50's as Winston did, he will lead the league in yards, and be among the leaders in interceptions (although fewer than Winston).

The damage was done a few years ago when they wouldn’t go beyond one year deals. Brady came off an MVP season and couldn’t get a multi year deal. He comes off a Super Bowl win and can’t get a multi year deal and gets impossible to hit incentives with the players around him.

Years ago the Pats and everyone else knew he wanted to play until 45 unless he sucked. He’s the one guy who deserved the benefit of the doubt and he should have got a multi year deal before this year. Absolute travesty he doesn’t retire a Patriot.

The problem with these chats about... wAAaaa. ...he didn't get extensions... is that brady always responded with chip on his shoulder.

First.. garoppolo drafted. Brady wins superbowl.

Next.. delategate.. superbowl..

Then no extension superbowl.

So why when offered incentives this time it's no good. When hes 43. The reason is he wants more money and Change of scenery. Done deal. Moving on, best of luck..

Some people think Tampa has a bad defense despite putting up historic rush defense stats and being top 20 in pass defense. They’re in for a surprise
