Um yes there most certainly is. From the article:

[In another Fox interview, Trump said, “You’ll have packed churches all over our country … I think it’ll be a beautiful time.”]

We have a global pandemic that which is getting exponentially worse by the day. We have states trying to encourage it's citizens to engage in social distancing, by advice of the medial experts across the world. Every other country is taking the steps necessary to contain the virus and setting no timeline or trying to rush things. Trump making these comments hinder efforts at social distancing. Everyone else is acknowledging that these unfortunate measures must stay in place and definitely longer than two weeks.

You have Trump supporters in this very thread who are acknowledging that this comments were dumb as ****.

Anyone who thinks there is 'literally nothing wrong' with his comments needs to take a break from discussing this topic and get in touch with reality.

sorry but this lacks context.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with WANTING what he wants. He did not say that it was going to happen. I want to be able to attend a full church on Easter, myself. That doesn't mean I'm expecting it to happen, and Trump did not say that he was going to ease everything so that it does.

See my earlier post about Trump opponents v. Trump followers, and their respective interpretations of his words.

For Coumo’s nice speech about his mother and our mothers, remember he did not want to lockdown New York for a long time - even when it was apparent mothers would be dying. What snapped him into lockdown mode was when he realized the ventilator supply was short and that someone might be denied a vent. We do not lockdown the country for the flu, knowing that many will die, because it does not typically overload the healthcare system. So the “if we can save one mother, the economy is secondary” spiel is pretty hollow. The fact is we are not going to have a vaccine for 18 months. We will have to coexist with this virus during that time, knowing that it will still kill. Staying locked down for 18 months (actually much less) is simply not possible. Sure April 12 may well be too soon, but the time when the country will resume operation is coming - and yes, some people will die as a result.

Deal done. I'm getting $1,200

Can't wait to order these bad boyz

Come on man, it depends on what the definition of the word "is" is.

That would be like telling car plants to stop making cars because 36,000 deaths are from crashes. Same thing really.

Last one for tonight

it's another straw man argument of specious value. The church decides if it will perform physical masses or not. As of the 16th, virtual mass coast to coast has mushroomed amidst staggering attendance online. England and France already have zero physical masses for the time being. Here in the states, online services in every time zone are already up and offering services daily. What Trump thinks is meaningless. He doesn't make policy for the church, in fact I didn't even know he went to church. I know the hatred he engenders makes people believe he's somehow responsible for the action of Christians. The fact is, he's a meaningless dilettante firmly ensconced outside the purview of the papacy and cardinals.

here's the latest google search for online masses...there's an especially impressive mass performed in Phoenix online every Sunday, celebrated by the bishop and pastor.

Compare the stats to other flus for me. You have an enormous population in the US, and do not let me minimize your numbers but show me what the top end is in terms of normal flu season.
You people keep refusing to understand that this is at the very beginning of the curve. What do YOU think the deaths will be when there are 1 million infected and our hospitals have completely collapsed?

We do not know what the story is in Wuhan. The number of cases is really low for a major epidemic in a city of 11 million. And their epidemic was developing there over weeks. The numbers could be low due to lots of very mild disease not found (meaning the mortality rate is very low), some degree of inate immunity in the community (helpful if present, but likely not that great), a result of quarantining (meaning it could flare now that the Chinese are lifting the lockdown - less than 6 weeks after the peak), or the numbers are fabrications.
China’s Mobile Carriers Lose 21 Million Users as Virus Bites

Someone probably raised this earlier. Original story I read was 21 million cell phones got disconnected after the coronavirus. Also read that the Chinese government requires everyone to have a cell phone for identification or some other purpose (not sure if that was accurate).

Also, yesterday if you typed in "21 mil..." on the Google search bar it would auto populate to "21 million Chinese cell phones". Today you have to type "21 million Chinese" to get the same autopop.

Way to go big tech.

One of my lasting takeaways from this whole thing so far is how much I hate the "news" media we have. Both sides (fox, cnn, etc.) so purposefully drive the disdain their viewers have for the other side. If a democrat gives a speech, all I hear on Fox is all the points that were terrible from the republican perspective. If a republican gives a speech, all I hear on cnn is the terrible points from the democrat perspective. Find video without the bs commentary. Reality is so different than what either side tries to paint.

I know. I’m really hoping he doesn’t crack and do something dumb. Hoping he does what’s best for everyone here

When he talks he shoots from the hip, but a lot of times he'll act differently.

See my earlier post about Trump opponents v. Trump followers, and their respective interpretations of his words.

So glad he talks in various forms of imagination which require footnotes, so that various groups can fracture even more over interpretation in a time that demands unity. Because in light of his talk about wanting to loosen the measures, talking about Easter as a potential date he WANTS sure sounds like call for everyone to expect these measures to let up soon.

The POTUS job is probably 75% communication and message, and for all this “political correctness sucks!” wave, there is a reason why politicians and all leaders choose their words carefully. Trump should damn well know how these quotes will be interpreted. Just Google his name and you’ll see dozens of articles about what he said with many condemning it. This sht doesn’t happen with other world leaders, or other conservatives, in a time like this, so spare me the biased press misconstrued interpretations bunk.

If you can’t deliver a clear, strong message about the course of action and your words lead to controversies in a situation like this, you are really, really bad leader. People are looking for answers and leadership, not half-baked daydreams about Easter happening, which was indeed a goal he thought of while scratching his ass in front of the microphone, to the dismay of scientists and intelligent life across the globe.

What a guy. Just the strong leader this country needs right now. Only sometimes does he follow through on dumb, random ideas.

My mom has lupus and it's a major concern of ours...

Reading this AM that this drug is also used for certain types of autoimmune disorders as well, the inability not to have considered the impact of pimping this unproven "cure" is unforgivable.. also read where certain segments of our society are hoarding this drug, just in case.

Hope your mom gets the meds she needs..

Yes @LuRkeR1978 had posted a bit about this earlier, I think at that time the number was closer to 10M. The only question I have, can we confirm the phones closed out on aren’t work phones cut by businesses cutting overhead? If these are all personal phones accounted for, and ownership is compulsory, then that number is significant.

It's difficult to count infections, because you can have a mild case. You can't be mildly dead.

So you can have a percentage of known cases which are severe, and a number of known cases which are fatal. You can preserve an assumed proportion, yielding more unknown cases, or you can say they were good at finding known cases, and compare how that number of cases resulted in so many deaths per infection. I agree with you that there's more likely a broader base to the pyramid, but I would also say that at a certain saturation point, it seems likely that the death rate per infection would increase.

In Wuhan/Hubei, they have a very high proportion of deaths (9%+ of the known infected die.) So, holding everybody's responses to be equal (they aren't,) we could simply multiply the infected number by 9-10, and say that's the number of cases in Wuhan/Hubei (we'd be wrong, but we could do it as a thought experiment.)

Once services are overwhelmed, you start to do whatever care is possible. You already see this in NY. Hooking up 2 people to 1 ventilator, of course eventually triaging people (who gets or doesn't get a ventilator, or half a ventilator). And so on and so on.

The population's characteristics could also be different - male gender seems to roughly double your chances of dying. Advanced age is a decrement. They might smoke more. They might have a higher incidence of comorbidities.

So that would also likely be a contributor. We could hope, at least. (Or at least the younger and healthier among us can.)
