Tom Brady press conference at 12 noon today

Shouldn't this be labeled OT now? :(

I can see how his first "press conference" is still relevant. But I certainly hope that we either get one big megathread for Brady related stuff from now on or move all those future threads into the OT board where they belong.

I was thinking the same thing...What if?

What if they start off crappy but a nice end-of-the season run gets them to 10-6 and are able to squeak into the playoffs. They win the WC round. Then the divisional like TN and back in the AFCCG.

Along the way Stidham shows hes not going to ever be Brady but a good playoff QB. BB takes that $100m in cap space and reloads for 2021.

I'm not expecting any of that next year but to sit here and be gloom and doom doesn't make sense to me.

The schedule is too tough I think. 8-8 would be a good year with a first year starter at QB.

My gut says it'll be a 7-9 to 9-7 season, so that would be the sweetest of salty-tear makers.
Yea me too. 7-9, 8-8, 9-7.

I remember thinking the same thing before the 01 season. If they went 9-7 I would have been happy with the progress. Low expectations back then....

I am deeply suspicious of Arians' coaching "talent." (I can't find the direct quote, but I remember Arians one time calling himself a great coach -- which, as a Patriots fan, seems really weird.)

Obviously I have on clue what really goes on behind the scenes, but whenever I see Arians getting buried with praise for coaching Peyton, Big Ben, Luck and Palmer, I can't help but wonder: maybe it's the other way around, and lucking into so many quality QBs has inflated his reputation. (And maybe it's about to happen again.)
I don't think he is a great coach but I do think hes competent. I could be wrong.

Sayyyyy.... that reminds me of someone doing the exact same thing, right now. :D
Keep it in the other thread man.

I don't put a lot of stock in pre-season schedules. We'll see.

I agree. I also think Brady will love him and he will love Brady. He is a QBs coach through and through. Also, don't forget Tom Moore is also there advising the offense which I am sure also appeals to Brady along with Leftwich who is his peer from his playing days.

I hope we can keep the winning season streak alive. I think we will.

As for Brady presser - he gone. Not that interested.

It really comes down to what kind of person you are. Negative or positive. Optimistic or pessimistic. There is plenty of room to be a realist.

I guess my point is I'm not dreading 2020 (if we have it). It could suck but there is $100m in cap space for 2021. This is a rebuild year and if they make the playoffs I will be beyond giddy.

The thing with Brady moving on is that he also took the "win now" pressure with him. And while it sucks not to be a serious contender at the same time it is also weirdly liberating in terms our expectations but also the way the FO can look at roster management and talent acquisition.

When you are in an neverclosing window like we were since 2010 every year it often felt like bandaids being put at various places.

Yep. For example I don't think hes going to force Tom to run plays he doesn't like or do well with like some egomaniac like Mike Martz would do. Hes going to pick plays that he knows Tom will do well with.

I wouldn't say from 2010-2019 it was a "bandaid" approach but player acquisition was mostly more complimentary in nature. We had the All-Pro franchise QB that could keep us at 8-8 all by himself but depending on the year needed to fill a starter's role at DE, LB, LT, CB and then add other pieces as needed.

Now because we don't have that megastar QB, BB needs to up-level the talent everywhere. The problem is a Super Bowl contender needs a highly functional QB and we don't know if Stiddy is that.

I vote for an aggregate "All Things Brady" thread here rather than thread after thread of "OT: Brady... blah blah"

What I am curious about is how Tampa handles adversity. There is always adversity with every season and this season already has the virus which is going to seriously alter preparation. Perhaps the best quality and the one most responsible for the championship culture of NE is the orgs ability to adapt quickly and well to adversity. I think that part will be the biggest change for Tom to get used to if folks there lose it when things go awry. That being said, I think they brought Tom in to be the cool head influence and get the job done but what if Arians loses it? That will be very different and challenging for Tom as the Pats really do insulate things and no one better than BB.

I admit. I am absolutely going to follow TB and TB12 this year not because I'm a fan but because I am curious as hell on how Tom behaves.

Ariens wears his heart on his sleeve. He'll go off or let something slip. Guaranteed.

If TB is 1-4, is Tom going to pout during his presser?

Yeah. Me too. I am very curious as well to see how it unfolds. Tom was already saying today how he can only do his part and it will take the team to work together to achieve anything. Yeah, good luck with that Tom. You are being viewed as a savior so get used to it. Anything offensively that goes wrong will be blamed on him or his skill players/OL. I hope they are all ready for the inferno.

Also, that division is no joke. No gimmies with Bridgewater signing in Carolina. That will be new for him too.

Yup. For the 1st time in his career it's likely that TFB will have to deal with his HC being off message once adversity strikes.
