Yet we wont observe an impact from the first round of distancing for a minimum of 12 days. So there will be 3 days of isolation data to judge this on. Thankfully the Govs can make a more nuanced assessment of their situation. The briefing regarding how USACE and FEMA are collaborating with state level executives is encouraging and as long as the cash doesnt get turned off, Im glad weve had a good nudge in the right direction for our care capacity. Now if only we can get testing online.

Meanwhile Biden is MIA. Yeah, that's the definition of leadership in a time of crisis.

DNC sure chose the wrong puppet.

How reassuring.

Pretty sure the voters chose, not the DNC.

Hey, you know, just a totally normal crisis wherein responsible people ignore what the President says.

I'm no Biden fan but I feel like the election is going to be off everyone's minds until this is all over so keeping him out of the public eye is probably not a bad move given that keeping Joe Biden in the public eye is usually a bad decision.

Hey, you know, just a totally normal crisis wherein responsible people ignore what the President says.

Anthony S. Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, gave a blunt answer when asked about keeping Trump’s public statements rooted in fact. “I can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down,” Fauci said. “Okay, he said it. Let’s try and get it corrected for the next time.”

Fauci's in an interesting place because if he's fired the markets probably totally crash but you know Trump wants to do it.

He'll be on the sidelines for the next 5 months. He can't campaign or have rallies - doing so will seem insensitive. He only gets to watch Trump succeed or fail.

Bernie, on the other hand, has mobilized his vast network of grassroot donors to donate to organizations and workers on the front line, and remains very much involved.

That's not a bad move, either.

Who said anything about campaigning or having rallies?

Unemployment claims as of Thursday

Our Premier started with (paraphrasing) “Many of you are obeying, but I was disappointed to see pictures of cars in beach parking lots and I have no choice...” and it went from there.

Sounded ridiculous (the delivery of the message). It was like an “I love you, but I need to...” bad-bf speech.

I don’t know if it’ll even help... he says no more than 5 people... we are six in my family. This whole situation would have been unimaginable two weeks ago.
Does the PM have the virus?

Refreshing press conference

THAT is an engineer's military engineer. Short n sweet, this is a practical approach to what we're going to do and this is how we are going to do it.

While everyone else is busy parsing words and assigning blame this is what professionals do.
The greatest good that can be done in the time available in the full realization perfection is the enemy of progress. It isn't about what's already done, it is about what the bleep we can and will do now and how we are going get it done efficiently and expeditiously. Others can argue all they like about the merits Spring Breaker's God Given right to party, meanwhile professionals are busily at work improvising effective mass treatment centers.

Until the crisis is behind us the ridiculous blame game / No You crap is nothing but wasted energy.

108,000 filed in Detroit, in five days, alone. This is blowing by every record set, from the 2008 recession to the Great Depression.

Does the PM have the virus?
The Prime Minister’s wife has the virus. He is under isolation just in case.
(The person who is making the crazy remarks is my Premier - leader of province - not my PM - leader of Canada)

Why isn't he in charge? Why aren't the scientists in charge?

Hmmmmm, might be someone with the intelligence of a fifth grader who just refuses to step aside and let professionals do their jobs.

Looking now here on sky Italy and they say the

Detroit...what a difference from 1967...
when i see videos about that city...the past and today...
incredible...
some houses were so good and now...
it is so sad...

So, if the left on here is to be believed, two countries out of 195 are doing a better job than the United States has so far. Those countries are South Korea, population 51M (compared to 327M, a much smaller geographic area, and vastly more experience dealing with a pandemic), and Taiwan - population 23.78M, the geographic size of a small state, and just recently had a spike in cases as opposed to a decline. @Observer read that again. A spike. Not zero. Nice attempt at a straw man, though.

It’s also nice to see that the party who doesn’t believe in personal accountability hasn’t changed. The government has told us for weeks about social distancing now. They have recommended self-quarantine. The reality is, if people actually listened, these issues would not be happening. Hospitals wouldn’t be stretched thin, supplies wouldn’t be short, etc. This is because less people would have contracted the virus. Instead, we have brain dead Gen Z kids like the morons that were on the news in South Florida traveling for Spring Break then continuing to party in large clusters of people. They’re not staying in their houses but are instead going to house parties now that the bars are shutting down. Do the math on it. Assume one person would test positive for the virus and they’re not currently symptomatic. That person goes to a party. They only converse with three people. Now three more people have it. Let’s say those people only converse with three more people. Now nine new cases have developed. On and on. The government has told people to stay home and limit contact with other people, but very few of those people are listening. At what point is personal accountability going to take place here?

The sad fact of the matter is that people in this country are idiots. They won’t listen. So draconian measures probably need to be taken by the federal government ala South Korea or China where people are forced to stay in their homes. They’ve already implemented something like that in Jax Beach, where people caught on the beach after Friday would be trespassed and then arrested if caught again. All that made people do was drop their boats into the water on Saturday. The boat ramp was packed when I drove by it on my way to Publix to find out that all the meat was sold out outside of chicken necks and livers.

As for people only being able to name two countries out of 195 that are handling this better than the US? That’s not a reflection that the US is top 3 in the world at handling this. Rather, that’s a sad reflection that the world is getting their asses handed to them because most of us were not prepared for something like this. People don’t save money to handle downtime, hospitals are under supplied, the federal government had no planning in place for this, state governments were woefully unprepared, etc. That’s my point. I agree with Trump instituting the DPA. I’m not sure why he hasn’t yet. My guess would be that he wants/hopes private enterprise can handle it and hopes it will inject life into an economy that has been dealt a massive blow. Not sure. But it’s needed. People aren’t listening and the number of sick is growing substantially. Masks going for $7 a pop is not a simple supply/demand thing. That’s price-gouging in the vein that Valeant gouged consumers for their medications after an M&A. He needs to activate it and there needs to be more stringent punishments for people not heeding the governments warnings to stay inside. Restaurants and bars need to close, Uber Eats needs to quit delivering food, etc. Only life-sustaining establishments need to remain open with food rationed. Until that happens, we’re ****ed.

Anyway, I’m going to take a break from this thread and the news reports on it. I’m working from home and barricaded inside my house as my wife and I are trying to conceive a child. It’s depressing. Going to go back to talking football and shooting the **** for a while. Take care, y’all. Hope everyone makes it to the other side of this.

I think the lack of early testing may create a lag between the effects of the mitigation and the increase in cases. IOW, the effects of social distancing measures may not be known for weeks after because of the continued increase in cases because of the delay in testing.

Not sure that I'm being clear.

I appreciate how he tries to get off the stage 5 times during the whole thing.
