Pats sign QB Brian Hoyer, LB Brandon Copeland

I believe this system has been in place since Parcells arrived. It was clearly dumbed down by Weis after Bledsoe’s injury and focused much more on checkdowns and the running game led by Smith.

point being that if its stidham, he won't be asked to do what brady was most recently asked to do. the offense may not set the house on fire, but if the defense is good, then chewing up clock and scoring once in a while while minimizing turnovers will be the recipe of the day

Look I’m a pessimist myself but sign some XFL QB over Hoyer? Cmon dude.

Why not? The Pats are not winning anything this year. Hoyer is not the answer...that is 100% known. Take chances with as many unknowns as possible until you find your qb.

They will probably have 4 QBs in camp. Pretty good chance they will draft one. Might sign another. Best QB starts, like every position, every year. Same as it ever was. Bill doesn’t care. It’s one reason why Michael Bennett was cut and Adam Butler is still here.

Agreed, but QB isn't like any other position. It is the single prerequisite for success.

The Patriots don't need a "mentor" for Stidham, they need a qb. If Stidham isn't the guy, Hoyer was doing nothing but taking a spot from other legitimate candidates.

The limited coaching/evaluation time is all the more reason to not have Hoyer on your roster. Why waste limited reps on a guy you 100% know isn't the answer? The team isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and they won't be going anywhere for much longer if they don't find a QB. Stidham may be great, but if he's not the answer, having Hoyer on your team accomllishes nothing but a wasted roster spot.

Teams without QBs don't have the luxury of having "mentors" on the roster.

they need the body now.........that's why they signed him.....whether or not he is here when the season starts remains to be seen.

it does not take much of an imagination to understand that having experience on the roster while preparing for games is valuable

nope......zero nfl experience is still xero nfl experience, and the most ridiculous thing you could do is go into a season with no nfl experience on your roster at QB

If Stidham is not the answer, bottom out next year and draft someone who is the answer.

Draft 3 guys who may be the answer. Increase your odds of finding one. If you get lucky and find more than one, you have a valuable trade asset. Hoyer on the roster accomplishes nothing...it hinders you.

I don't agree. You are right in that it is more important than any single position. But you can win an SB with a young game manager or lesser QB who doesn't turn the ball over. Denver did it with Peyton, the Pats did it with 2001 Brady, the Ravens did it with Flacco, Giants did it with Eli.

Hire another QB coach. Have one work on the throwing and movement.. the physical stuff..

the other the reading of defenses, the scheme , the brains. The mental stuff..

His experience has proven one thing...he's not the future at qb. His roster spot should only be filled by players who have yet to prove their worthlessness.

once again, you paraphrase the same thing without any new info......having QB experience on the bench, especially relevant experience, has value whether you want to admit it or not

Unless your NFL experience has proven you are not the future QB of the New England Patriots. Until the Pats have qb, that roster spot should only be filled by guys who have yet to prove that.

It's only of value if you have your qb. In the absence of a qb, Hoyer's presence offers no value.

I think we are slowly getting our answers at QB. All signs point to Stidham as the starter which I am pretty pumped about. If BB feels this good that his only move so far has been to add Hoyer to give experience to the QB room than I am pretty confident that we have our QB for this year. We will see how the draft goes but if we do not select a QB in the first few rounds than it appears Stidham is the guy going forward.

Im guessing scheme change cost him production.
Where is our resident Jets fan at with some insight

Let me say it this way...Last year proved the Pats felt Stidham was a better/more talented/higher potential player than Hoyer. Until Stidham has proven himself, and I am not one of the people already saying he isn't the answer, the other spots should be filled with players that at least have the potential to be superior to Stidham. Stidham hasn't proven anything and you're filling an open spot with a guy you already acknowledged is an inferior player.

you have your qb = the qb that you have

still have to prepare to win the games

with Brady in the team, there was more value in having stidham .... hoyers value was less. Now with Brady gone, the situation has changed and there is more value in having his experience here

going into the season with only stidham and some 2020 draft pick at qb is flat out stupid
