To quote the title of the book about Jim Morrison "Nobody Gets Out of Here Alive".
The Flu is always culling the Senior Population as we get older (I am 67 for the record).
There was an ex Gov of Colorado from the 90's IIRC who said that half of a person's health care cost occur in the last 6 months of life, IOW we try even when things are hopeless.

We are human and mortal sh!t happens.

Sorry I think that's either barbaric or ignorant thinking.

Where do you stand on abortion again? You know the whole "life is precious" thing.

Can't believe that you're willing to die on some kind of conservative platform when it's clear that the initial response to this virus was a huge fail.

I know you’re feeling scared and panicky and emotional right now. I’m sorry about that.

But by any reasonable historical standard, the “initial response” is what we are in right now.

What is barbaric? Acknowledging that all people die eventually?
IOW if you are old frail and within a year of dying from your underlying ailments,
then contracting the Flu will hasten the natural processes of mortality. I didn't say that we shouldn't try to treat patients elderly or not.

I agree. And I'm growing tired of the Trump defenders but I also don't want to see "the Dems would have responded better" types either because it's being classlessly political during a time we should be non-political.

I think it’s fair to say there are a great many leaders, Democrat and Republican, who would have handled this better. Not about ideology but competence. Hell, even if Trump just shut up and disappeared and let Pence talk it’d go a long way.

Dude please grow up. You're little teenaged response may sound funny to you but it's just foolish.

The initial response was critical and our administration failed bigly. We had plenty of notice. We failed.

Even the left leaning Snopes fact check says Trump never called the virus a hoax. I’d encourage you to go back and listen to what was actually said, instead of what it says on your Facebook feed. This whole “Trump called it a hoax” is like a litmus test for how rational or unbiased a content source is on this topic.

Snopes does not lean left. Statement of fact. Moving on.

The swill you're gargling and spewing back out at us is a litmus test for how much you've fallen for the presto-chango 10-second revisionism cycle.

Regarding the "Hoax" language:

What he said was:

"This is their new hoax."

"This" is an indefinite pronoun.

Much earlier in the "speech," he said "the Democrats are politicizing coronavirus."

Ex post facto, he decided that it wasn't faiirrrrrrrr that he got reported as saying "This is their new hoax" because he meant "[The democrats are politicizing coronavirus] is their new hoax."

That aint what he said.

He said "And this is their new hoax."

The statement "The democrats are politicizing coronavirus is their new hoax" is not English and it is not what he said. There were also dozens or hundreds of words between the statements. Most of them, as you would notice if you actually paid attention, were absolutely polarizing mimicry against "they", "them," "the Democrats," etc.

(Side-track: I love how he mocks that they "can't even count" the votes in Iowa, meanwhile, he's crisscrossing the country, refusing to test for coronavirus, and counting to 15, which I suppose is the highest number he learned?)

Pretty much all your boy does is call names and lie. So really, that's a joke from day one that he's treated "unfairly" or that "the other side" or whatever is "politicizing" anything.

If anything, what's unfair is to have to discuss him as if he were devoting thought to his pablum, as if he's constructing logical arguments that must be countered. His followers, of course, beclown themselves the same way.

In any event, what, pray tell, did "this" mean, in the statement that he actually said?

"This is their new hoax"?

If a Democrat said that, you'd absolutely tie yourself in knots misreporting it, as you're tying yourself in knots trying to misreport your way out of what he said.

But you know what? The big point here is, only his minions are wrapped around the axle about how he meant this single word, this time, having misused it to excuse himself dozens of other times from a laundry list of problems.

The far larger point is that he was speaking to a rally, when everybody in his right mind was promoting social distancing. He was minimizing the virus, when everybody in his right mind was sounding the alarm.

His self-congratulatory shtick is "mission accomplished" x 1 million, and that doesn't even scratch the surface. Because of his inaction where action was indicated, many more are going to die than otherwise would have.

We had news out of China by the end of December. We had that time to prepare. We could have prepared (or accepted when offered) the necessary test kits. We could have made an attempt at containment. We did not. These were the president's calls.

We did not try to contain this virus.

We did not try to contain this virus.

We did not try to contain this virus.

So yeah, I'm not fond of politicizing this stuff. So stop politicizing my thread with your excuses for the C-in-C, or just shut up when others engage you in your politicization.

Or is this another of those things where the proper response to gun nut school massacres is "thoughts and prayers"?

Even now, he's bizarrely playing pocket pool, refusing to mount a federal response by distributing needed stockpiles. I'm starting to think he sold the ventilators. Why not? He disbanded the pandemic task force. We know that this administration had neglected the "use by" dates on at least some masks to the point that the elastic crumbled when they were taken out of their packaging. Is that what he's hiding by hoarding federal resources? Has he let perish all the perishable and sold the sellables?

This lack of response is one big WTF.

So yeah if you want to stay apolitical I am glad to do that, but leave your underinformed, illogical, semantically bankrupt sophistic excuses at home if you don't want to see politics in this conversation. You don't get to say "Here's my politics, it's a pity you're all so political."

Thanks. I really needed to respond to this bizarre package of excuses and charges one more time before getting back to whatever else there is to talk about -- perhaps the coming deaths, whether one of us will lose someone, etc.

Hearing a $4 trillion aid package? Wow!!!!
Where are the Blue Dog Dems?

Actually this is necessary because of the system this country has created, not the politics. Right now, everyone is parking their money in US dollars and no one is spending. There is a cash flow problem because this is consumer driven. The problem is not the aid but that the government will probably not enforce the loan agreements on repayment and company stocks. We’ve already seen this from 2008.

Note the difference with which this will be treated in comparison to the last major stimulus request in 2009

Actually you did say that. "It's just the flu" overwhelms hospitals and subsequently people who would have otherwise lived die.

We find some real-world evidence of “flattening the curve” in the province of Lodi where harsh movement restrictions were enacted quickly (Feb 23rd) vs much later in Bergamo (March 8th).

Tone deaf Tommy...

The former New England Patriots star was seen grinning ear-to-ear as he left the New York Center for Cosmetic Dentistry around 10:30 a.m.(Friday), shortly after he made his announcement that he was leaving his old team to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, exclusive pictures taken of the famed quarterback show.

Elective medical and dental procedures will be banned by the end of the day in the Big Apple — so Brady made sure to squeeze in a last visit before the ban went into effect.

After about 30-40 minutes at the dentist, the football superstar was seen walking down a quiet Manhattan street with no mask amid the burgeoning coronavirus crisis before he entered a waiting SUV, the snaps show.

People are losing jobs and dying but the dandy Tommy needs his teeth whitened above all else.

Twice on Friday the President stated that he had invoked the Defense Production Act to facilitate production of masks, ventilators, and other much-needed equipment.

Earlier this morning FEMA head Gaynor confirmed that DPA has not yet been invoked.

All is well!

The idea that this epidemic could have been stopped in February or March or whenever is fantasy. Not with a highly transmissible virus, passed at least sometimes by asymptomatic persons in a population without immunity in a highly social, mobile society with large cities and travel from everywhere. Even a shelter order in February - which would never have occurred - would have just postponed the inevitable. As long as this virus persists as is - and the world is essentially not immune - it is going to be a huge issue. This is the first epidemic like this in the modern ICU era. No one ever before had to deal with providing critical care to millions of people all at once. They just died. I am not advocating that as the solution, but our capabilities are decidedly finite. It is what it is.
