2020 Mock Drafts

My daily 7-round mock from Fanspeak, using Fanspeak Steve's big board (as of 10 March) & team needs with Difficult algorithm:

23: R1P23
OT MEKHI BECTON - LOUISVILLE
(Wirfs, Wills & Andrew Thomas already taken; no other position group floats my boat here)

87: R3P23
TE HARRISON BRYANT - FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Kmet & Trautman already taken)

98: R3P34
S JEREMY CHINN - SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
(from Chung to Chinn; bigger & better athlete than Mr Sniffy too)

100: R3P36
C MATT HENNESSY - TEMPLE
(wasn't going to take 2 OLmen so early, but value too good to pass up)

125: R4P19
WR JAMES PROCHE - SMU
(best WR available here, unfortunately)

195: R6P16
DL KHALIL DAVIS - NEBRASKA
(lots of choices at DT here; love the athleticism but wish he were bigger)

204: R6P25
LB CASEY TOOHILL - STANFORD
(Carter Coughlin, Alex Highsmith & Trevis Gipson also considered here)

212: R6P33
TE CHARLIE TAUMOEPEAU - PORTLAND STATE
(Dalton Keene already taken; Devin Asiasi also considered here, but prefer Charlie's athleticism)

213: R6P34
CB AMIK ROBERTSON - LOUISIANA TECH
(generally considered the best of the rest including Essang Bassey, Josiah Scott et al)

230: R7P16
WR QUEZ WATKINS - SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI
(best WR available, by far)

235: R7P21
LB DAVION TAYLOR - COLORADO
(athletic but inexperienced; future 3rd-down coverage 'backer?)

241: R7P27
K RODRIGO BLANKENSHIP - GEORGIA
(6th & 7th rounds is where STers should Always be drafted, Not 4th & 5th rounds)

If Ken Murray or Zachary Baun is still available at 23, I would choose one of them - or also Xavier McKinney - ahead of Epeneza; we need more mid-field speed...

I'm not a fan of Uche in our defense; he's not nearly as laterally proficient as Murray & Baun, and he's too small & un-stout to be strictly an upfield guy...I prefer Malik Harrison & Logan Wilson here if we don't go LB earlier...

Absolutely Love the next 2 picks; Trautman's my #2 TE behind Cole Kmet and ahead of Harrison Bryant...and Van Jefferson (as well as fellow legacy Isaiah Hodgins) are my favorite WRs at this point in the draft...

I like Darryl Williams' size & length for POA-blocking at Center, but I worry about his explosiveness in space & downfield...If Temple's Matthew Hennessy were still available that would be perfect...

Absolutely Love the Lynn Bowden pick, though he probably won't be available this low...but we do have a 5th-rounder now...

Don't know much yet about the next 3 defenders, but I can get behind the Montez, Phillips & Blankenship picks.

Since we lost Van Noy and Collins, I’m coming around to Murray. Might be able to get a DT at 87

Yeah if Herbert's there at 23 I'm taking him too...

I'm leaning toward becoming more stout at DT, so I'm not really considering somebody like Madubuike unless he falls into Day 3 and the value is too good to ignore...though his 31 reps at the combine is impressive...

Love the Trautman pick.

Not too crazy about the next 2 picks though...Dye is hurt and Jennings doesn't help much to address our need for more athleticism at LB.

Quintez Cephus might indeed be one of the better WRs remaining at this point, a sure-handed, contested-catch style of player with explosive high-point skills, though his character flag is concerning, as is his 40 time...

I like Evan Weaver in the mid-6th round better than I do the other two where they were taken...

I also like Kavon Wallace here...adds more athleticism...possible DMac understudy?

Cabral's OK, but I would've addressed OL earlier than this, by the 4th round at the latest...

Instead of another DT at #213, I would be on the hunt for Pass-Rushers...still might be a couple of decent ones left...

Breeland's OK as the back end of a TE double-dip...IF he's healthy...

I'm thinking the same thing at #241: either a Kicker or a QB...

Other than lb and DT. I wonder if an edge who is more of a DE than lb could be our pick. We seemed to generate most of our pressure thru scheme. A guy like Chiasson could fit the bill. He’s not a clean prospect, but Danielle Hunter wasn’t either.

That said. We will prob trade down and draft Raekwon Davis or maybe Fotu.

If you're looking for a DE at #23 who can set an edge and generate some pressure from the inside during passing downs, then AJ Epenesa's your man...If you're willing to gamble on greatness with somebody who can create impact plays from multiple areas of the field, then Klavon Chiasson's your man...

And even if Bill doesn't trade down and keeps the pick, Davis and/or Fotu might still be available by the time our 3rd-rounders appear...

With the RPO, I wonder if taller de’s who can alter passing lanes might help. I wouldn’t mind Epenesa at 23 at all. Just throwing other options out there.

Would you trade Edelman and 98 for 45 and OJ Howard?

I'm not ready to go past 4 rounds yet, but here is my first attempt. Biggest needs to me: WR, TE, DL, LB, QB.

35 (trade 23 for 35 and 67 with Detroit): Brandon Aiyuk, WR
67 Jordan Elliott, DT
87 Brycen Hopkins, TE
98 Nick Harris, OL
100 Jalen Hurts, QB
125 Logan Wilson, LB

Yeah..I also wanted Logan Wilson as our athletic ILB with Coverage Skills. He was gone, so I picked Dye who was productive in Coverage and has good Football IQ. He needs some time though, but he has three down potential.
I picked Jennings, because I see him as a 3-4 OLB who can rush the Passer and be a solid Run Defender. He has a good Size and Weight for it. He needs time, but can eventually take over some KvN responsibilities.

I see DT as a huge Need, especially a DT with Pass Rush Skills, thats why I used to Picks for DT. Agim had a solid Pro Day, so I would give him a Shot, especially when we maybe play more 4-3 Defense. Madubuike is a bit undersized and not my favourite Prospect, but I dont have the Premium Version at Fanspeak's where I can trade down, and he was the only reasonable DT left.

Hopefully we can draft a Kicker and cut Gostkowski. I would like to see us sign Wolfe and a vet TE. With some Extentions we should have enough cap space for that.

Yeah it was a fifty fifty Decision in the fourth round between a Center and another LB since we lost three LB. I think we should grab a solid C for Karras, who can start from Day 1 if Andrews is not able to play.

My favourite Scenario would be a trade Down with Detroit or the Colts. Maybe one of them want to make sure they get a QB at 23.

Oh yeah Epenesa to many teams (maybe even to Bill) would absolutely be worthy of #23 overall, and if All of (in order of preference):

QB Justin Herbert
WR Jerry Jeudy
OTs Tristan Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Andrew Thomas
DTs Derrick Brown, Javon Kinlaw
LBs Zachary Baun, Ken Murray
Safety Xavier McKinney

...are taken before we pick, then players such as Epenesa, LBs Patrick Queen & Klavon Chiasson, and SS Grant Delpit become stronger possibilities there for us, though I would really, really prefer that a trade-down happen at this point.
Would you trade Edelman and 98 for 45 and OJ Howard?
Hmmm...I very well just might...

Captain, in your opinion is there a tight end worthy of the 23rd pick if none has been selected and every prospect is still available?

Think our focus needs to be on te, lb, dl early. Possible speedy wr.

ND's Cole Kmet is most everyone's #1 TE, but his value is generally considered to begin around the mid/late 2nd round, too early to be taken at #23 where there should still be some choices available providing better value at other positions (LB especially)...

So although I have TE as our #1 position of need, I don't believe we should use our first pick in the draft on one of them...Just like last year (Dawson Knox, Foster Moreau), there should be some decent prospects available near the end of the 3rd round (where we currently have 3 picks) who can help us and provide an upgrade to what is clearly the Worst TE Room In Football.
