EARLY NFL DRAFT QB RANKINGS (ANALYTICS)

Of course, my model’s rankings and my personal rankings are going to be a little different as I think I can pick up on minor things that my model isn’t incorporating. For now, I have the 2020 quarterbacks ranked as:

1. Joe Burrow - Day 1 starter with Hall of Fame potential after an all-time Heisman campaign.

2. Tua Tagovailoa - Potential franchise QB if healthy after a rookie-year redshirt.

3. Justin Herbert - Boom-or-bust franchise QB with good and bad traits.

4. Jalen Hurts - Versatile, high-floor backup QB with starting potential as a stud college player.

5. Jake Fromm - Low-upside fringe starter as a pocket passer with average traits.

6. Jordan Love - A “toolsy” developmental project coming off an awful college season.

7. Anthony Gordon - An against all odds backup QB with high-end college production.

8. Jacob Eason - A big armed, backup QB with awareness and mobility issues.

Confirms Love & Eason are easily 2 of the worst at working mof in this class. Both have similar problems\strengths.
This is one person’s opinion, doesn’t mean it’s set in stone.

Maybe "confirm" wasn't the right word but both struggle mightily in the mof. It's painfully clear watching Eason. Love played a ton of hero ball. So I understand in that regard but he could have had more INTs in that area and general tbh.

I thought Hurts was awful at Alabama.
Its all about what you ask him to do. He's not going to hit it out of the park throwing slants, bang-bang - timing throws off quick drops. He's still doesn't have true command in the pocket.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone take a shot at him. Thinking they can settle/slow him down post-snap. Shanahan, Mcvay, Reid, if he falls past Rd2?

I've always thought the hate he got was over the top. He's not what some are used to seeing but the league has changed. Boom or bust depending on where he goes.

He has great career stats, even at Alabama, but when he was needed to be THAT GUY that wins the game, he just couldn’t do it. I never felt confident he could pull it out when Alabama was losing. Awful in the FBS Championship game, and a freshman had to come in to take over (Tua was great and won the game).

Yea I hear that but again those bang-bang, 3-5 step drop plays were never his thing. Tua is one of the best slant passers I've seen but wouldn't ask Hurts to work those slant/flat-curl combos. It's a concern going forward for sure. In terms of what you ask/how you defend him he's limited but has a skill set worth gambling on imo. Idk I think he's a little better than what most think but far from a sure thing. He'll need very good coaching with various weapons to ease the burden on him.

I actually think that when it comes to hurts, less is more.
The less coaching he gets, the better. Just let him make plays.

the job the Oklahoma staff did with him last year was great. They took him a god awful thrower all the way up to below average in just one year,

in the nfl, you teach hurts only a few throws, mostly vertical, outs and screen routes. Never allow him to throw between the numbers.
he should have one read only.... the safeties.
If nothing is there, he needs to run it.

if you ask him to do more, he will implode on you. Keep it simple and he may be able to have limited success!

The kid is a special talent for sure, just noticed he ran for 1200 yards and 20 tds last year. Even caught a TD pass as well. So he was involved in 53 TDs last year. Maybe he can become another Taysum Hill in the NFL. Decent size at 6'2" 220.

teams didn’t play a lot of defense in that conference,

nfl teams are going to load up the box and force hurts to throw it.

there is so much tape on Jackson of Baltimore now that we could see teams play them both the same way.

either way, hurts has a tough road if he can not throw the ball well.

Fromm Size isn't great...
