2020 mock drafts: what the pundits think

Chad Reuter on NFL.com with a three-rounder:

23. DT(!) Ross Blacklock, TCU
"Blacklock is an absolute disruptor in the middle of a defense. The Patriots' inability to stop the Titans' run game in the Wild Card Round will weigh heavily on Bill Belichick's mind this offseason." Yeah, because that was the real problem in the loss. . . .

87. EDGE Anfernee Jennings, Alabama

98. TE Thaddeus Moss, LSU

100. WR Antonio Gandy-Golden, Liberty

Phil Perry has the Patriots in a non-Brady scenario taking a risk with Jordan Love and signing/trading for a "bridge" veteran in 2020. [If Brady returns, "surrounding him with a first-round weapon at receiver or tight end would make more sense."]

I think the Third Rounders are ok. But getting no Offensive Linemen before the fourth round i don't like this, regarding Thuney might be gone, Cannon always injured and not very effective and we don't know how Froholdt, Cajuste and Andrews will/ may be able to play...I would draft an ILB/OLB in the fourth round and use one Third or uptrade for an O-Linemen.

I don't think that BB will use an first round pick for an DT to primarily stop the run. There are guys in later rounds oder cheap FA's who are also able to help our run defense.
We need a better pass Rusher in our D-Line if we switch to ILB's, who mostly cover and are not used like KvN for rushing the passer. But if none good Edge is available I would trade down for Aiyuk/Reagor/Kmet and another Pick..(Reagor could possibly be gone in the 2.round..)

Colin Cowherd predicts that Jordan Love goes in the first round to either Raiders (currently #12 and #19) or Carolina (currently #7).

I've seen a lot of pundits have us taking a safety, which I don't get. I don't see safety as the #1 priority.

Charlie Campbell have us taking Isaiah Wilson who played Right Tackle for Georgia
Has good Size and weight for run blocking and potential pass protection
O-Line is a big need but i don‘t know if he is worth a first rounder

DMac is a UFA and Pat Chung isn’t getting any younger

DT was a problem in the playoffs and it has been a problem since 2017. They tried to address it in the offseason but Pennell must have rubbed BB the wrong way because he was let go and Shelton was retained. Shelton is not a toilet clogger. Shelton will never be that guy. He’s fine as a one-gapper in a more attacking defense but he’s not what you want on first and second down. Blaylock can definitely be that guy. Like Jennings and LOVE Moss where he’s at, but that’s not realistic. That’s also too low to start looking at WRs.

If kinlaw and Espinoza are off the board by 23, I would love to see us trade with Cleveland for 41 and 71.

at 41, we grab Davis from Alabama.

in free agency, before the draft, we sign four guys:

a Shawn Robinson - with him on one side and Davis on the other side, our run defense just got way better.
Aj green - this guy will excel at option routes.
Cooper pharaoh - returner and should develop into a deadly slot guy for us.
CB Poole - he sucked in Atlanta, but then the Jets made him a slot corner and he was among the best in the nfl.

with our 4 third round picks, we take the following:

Tight end - Albert o. Mizzu
Tight end - Parkinson Stanford
Olb - uche Michigan
Og - brederson Michigan

Not sure he'll be there. FWIW, they'd owe more than that; the Pats pulled off almost exactly the same trade in 2009 and got two thirds back.

Albert O is a weird prospect. He has a massive frame but he doesn’t get a whole hell of a lot of separation. He makes contested catches and Brady has never really been a guy to throw contested balls. I’ve also thought he struggled in the run blocking department when I’ve watched him, but that seems to be an issue with technique as well.

Uche und Brederson would be nice Picks.
I would prefer to take Aiyuk with the second rounder and use one of the third rounders for a DT. I think there are some other reasonable run stuffers, who aren't good in rushing the Passer, so i think one of them will be available in round 3. ( Hamilton, Madubuike, Davidson, Blacklock, Gallimore, Fotu ...)

DraftTek finally added comp picks. They're still missing some picks, though.

For the record, they currently see QB as a "depth need."

23. OT Austin Jackson, USC
87. WR Denzel Mims, Baylor
97. TE Colby Parkinson, Stanford
99. DT Jordan Elliott, Missouri

122. EDGE Trevon Hill, Miami
195. RB Salvon Ahmed, Washington
205. ILB Cam Brown, Penn State
212. DL Adam Shuler, Florida
213. CB Reggie Robinson, Temple
235. QB James Morgan, FIU

Like the Pick of Parkinson. He was constantly productive during his college carrer and can block.
I don't know if it would be good to move wynn inside and let Jackson play LT. Would rather have a rookie stepping in for Thuney than for LT.
No Safety and just one TE..
Does he think we can resign Collins or KVN? I am not convinced that Hill and Brown can directly step in for them and i don't know if BB wants Roberts or Bentley as Starters. I don't really see Wino as an OLB who can drop into Coverage (But I think Wino is good, he will probably see more Snaps next season and still have room to develop)

The more I read about Jordan Love the more I am leaning toward Him being the top QB on our board.
Not just the cannon arm or the athleticism.
I’m talking about he has the biggest Hands or any QB at the combine which is very important to us I hear.
Also how he carries himself son of a police officer.
Had to fight for the starting job in both highschool and college nothing was handed to him.
Has improved each year since high school.
The fact his team mates said when they were way behind and the last seconds were ticking away he’s on the side line coaching his offense what to do next time in certain situations.
I could see him being a franchise QB here for the next 10 years.
If the Patriots like him better than Stidham I could easily see him being the pick.
Which more than likely will require a move up.

Three of their last four QB draft picks are below-average on hand size (only Brissett is >50th percentile).

In any case, I can't see any scenario in which the Pats spend a first-round pick on a QB this year. If Brady comes back and they use that pick on a QB, it will not end well. If Brady doesn't come back, it still would make more sense to see what you have in Stidham and use that first-rounder on someone who can help regardless of who the QB is.
