So for my 50th birthday, my wife got me tickets and the 54 pre-game party for my birthday. Awesome present...but once the Pats lost, I honestly have no strong interest in football for the rest of this season. (I wish I had known she was buying them as we had a pretty good idea this was not their year)

The plane ticket and hotel are non-refundable so I am going regardless. There are 2 tickets that she purchased for my brother and I to go.

I am not discussing any sale here (as it would be through stubhub only), but am I wrong for telling her I would rather sell the tickets for a profit, give her her money back and just enjoy Miami for a long weekend watching the game at a beach bar?

I guess being a Pats fan from the days of Grogan, it has been a long ride. The last 20-someting years have been awesome but have also made me hate the NFL and other teams in general. Casual fans state it would be awesome to be there, but for me seeing 2 teams I could care less about, some weird pregame cattle call party, and a crappy half-time show just don't make it worth keeping if I can make enough to pay her back (and still enjoy Miami).

Am I outta line for thinking like this or does it make some sense?

I’d say it makes sense. Maybe you could also suggest that you and your wife pick a weekend to go to a game together in 2020? Maybe could pick a road game and make a little getaway vacation out of it. Plan out some other fun things to do, see, etc.

From someone who has been fortunately for our SBs I think it would be a blast to see a neutral SB but certainly not at that price.

put em up for sale, take the money, put it aside for the Pats next Super Bowl, then take her.

Sell them to some 49er or Chiefs sucker. Ticket prices are going through the roof. You can make nice profit.

I would tread carefully, here. Some women tend to take it personally, and after all, this was a thoughtful (and expensive) gift. Make sure that you frame it well.

My wife bought me one of those wine cellars that are installed into the kitchen cabinets for Xmas, which I wanted to return so that I could have a smaller, much less expensive version in the basement, and my suggestion almost caused WWIII.

Bring your wife to Miami...

Sell the tickets...

Buy a ticket to Gronk's party (some are left)....

Have a blast.....

This. This this this.

Just because it makes sense to you from a logical standpoint doesn't mean it will go over so well with the female of the species.

Sounds like that present was 100% for you and entirely for you.

jewelry is always appreciated

Seems to me like you could have your cake and eat it too on this one. How hard would it be to sell your wife on the idea of a romantic getaway to SoFlo with her rather than a game you are indifferent to with your brother? You'd make enough off selling the tix to spoil her rotten down there. I guarantee my bride would not only bite on that but give me huge marital coin to boot and my brother wouldn't be offended in the least.

Sell tickets
Tell her you went
Enjoy Miami & So FL
Plenty of nice strip joints to visit with the profits

That way everybody feels good.

Sell the tickets

You can clean up. Whats face $1200? 200% mark up is not out of line at all.

I live in KC and can put the word out here if you want. My neighbor is going and knows lots of folks who may need tickets.

This thread = Cat like quick thinking

Thanks for your advice so far. Yes...I know to tread lightly...I think if her and I were going it would be a different story. But my brother and I could easily hang out in some open air beach bar and watch the game there.

This definitely helps though...as a Pats fan it is kind of us vs. the NFL so there are reasons I don't care much to actually go.

I made the terrible mistake of pointing this out, and let me tell you, it did not go over well. Either way, it looks like I’m an alcoholic now.

I'd tell my brother that since the Pats aren't in it I'm selling the tickets and taking the wife on a mini vacation.

If for whatever reason you can't say that then go to the game.
