I don’t think I the angle here is defending AB’s behavior.

It just goes to show AB needed the Pats because he’s a total mess without structure, purpose, and motivation and would have been in a great place with TB12 and the Patriots leadership. And he realized that, based on his comments about wanting to play with Brady. And Brady realized that, telling a source he thought he was getting through to AB.

And the Pats sure as fck needed AB because...well...just put a mental picture of Mohamed Sanu deflecting Brady’s final pass for a pick-6, vomit, and you’ll get it.

So AB can continue to go batsh1t crazy after getting ghosted by the NFL, no longer being an active player, no longer being an member of the NFLPA, having any schedule, purpose, revealing his massive problems and embarrassing himself, and that doesn’t change the fact they shouldn’t have released him. Belichick and the team knew the guy had mental issues when they signed him...look at his psychotic behavior in Oakland. They thought they could help him...and they probably could have. But Early Bird Bob felt it was of utmost importance to blackball him because it was the will of the 31.

Let me ask another question. Would the Patsfans forum members who find the idea of AB coming back here abhorrent think it's a good or bad idea if we can get AB for say $3m for 1 year, similar to a Moss prove-it deal. Absurdly low price for the talent at hand. Usual price for this kind of guy would be $15m+. Suppose it's our internal assessment we will lose the legal case against AB and have to forfeit the $5m in cap space that we hope to get credit back for in 2020. What if we also settled that in the deal to bring AB back. We would get AB AND get net $2m in cap space ($5m credit back plus $3m we pay him for 2020). Would everyone still be upset? I would say the FO would jump on it.

It's easy to say "Never ever ever...........". Then you run the numbers. Then you say "errr........ maybe...........". Then you look at other options and say "WOW this makes too much sense...........".

From my view the Pats had no choice as he was descending into a mental health crisis while he was with the team.. and they may have saw the signs...

As a forever fan do not want this guy on this team for any reason after all that has transpired since he left the Pats and some of the shenanigans he pulled on social media while he was with them..

AB will probably not change or want to resolve his issues and without structure in his life things may get even worse.. to think he could come back and function well on this team, never mind function in life, is folly.

I think this is a stretch. AB wasn’t going to listen to anybody no matter the structure.

Belichick has said repeatedly over the past 20+ years (and I know this is news to the folks who became Pats fans recently) the the most important thing he looks for in a player is whether football is his #1 priority. Because if it isn't, he doesn't need to waste his time with him.

Antonio Brown has proven ONE constant time and time again ever since the Burfickt hit 3 years ago regarding the order of his priorities. Even Tomlin and Lt. Jack Kearney
Steelers security chief's dual roles debated could no longer handle him anymore.

This past season, the Raiders couldn't and the Patriots couldn't either. He's not of the NFL Universe - - - he is in a different existential plane. If you cannot understand that he is acting out every single day the past 3+ years, then that is YOUR problem being ripe for every scam artist who knocks on your door to sell you the next winning pennystock.

But you keep being you. Your belief in the Antonio Brown scam is your problem, not ours.

That point about elite receivers and Super Bowl teams was and still is valid. We probably needed better than what we had this year at WR, but the offensive problems had more to do with the offensive line and by extension the run game.

That point about elite receivers and Super Bowl teams was and still is valid. We probably needed better than what we had this year at WR, but the offensive problems had more to do with the offensive line and by extension the run game.

It isn't valid in the way he argued it. It is valid that in general wide receivers are overvalued and not the most important part of an offense. It is not valid that having a guy with the talent of Brown (or Jones or Hopkins) makes the team less likely to win a Super Bowl, cost aside. He did not present it as an economic/cap argument but as a ridiculous idea that having an elite wide receiver means you can't win a Super Bowl. In light of this being a likely sunken cost, the idea that after signing Brown, we'd be better off with a $9M cap hit and a ham sandwich than a $9M cap hit and Antonio Brown, was absurd. And yes, it really was that ridiculous.
