I’m not going to get into an argument, you are free to believe what you want. He was a smart offensive guy. The patriot offense isn’t at all similar to what Coryell ran.

I'm not arguing either Andy, merely stating the facts. You are dead wrong, the Pats offense is grounded in the tenets of Coryell's

We disagree Ralph.

If he had a real Qb for more than 3 years he’d have multiple rings imo and probably then be deserving. Big if tho. Still a great coach, he catches a lot of flack for the playoff losses but any coach will have a heck of a time winning titles with Neil O’Donnell, mike tomczak, and kordeell Stewart, without having a totally dominant roster.

Cowher in the HOF is a joke. 149 regular season wins. 12-9 in playoffs with one Championship is not enough in my book. Good coach, enjoy his commentary but the HOF is meant for icons of the sport and he falls short.

He’s a popular guy.

The old “hall of very good” strikes again.
If it was hall of good, it may have been hard for him but it is the hall of famous so it makes sense.

Did his impressive jaw line and scowl give him that needed bump to push him over the finish line? I agree he was very good for a long time, but don't recall how he shaped the landscape of the NFL during his tenure.

Today its all about warm fuzzy emotion on live reality TV.

Get the kleenex out to watch football.

Weak as usual.

Charlie Joiner, Dan Fouts and Kellen Winslow are all in the HOF.
He also had John Jefferson/Wes chandler and chuck Muncie and could only win 3 playoff games with all that talent

He didn't.

His time on CBS got him in the HoF.

If he disappeared into obscurity he never would have gotten in.

Dungy developed that Tampa defense that wrecked the Raiders in SB 37. He is the creator of “Tampa 2”

That was actually DC Monte Kiffin, not Dungy.

Dungy also gets credit for bringing in and developing players, but those high quality players were drafted by John McKay and Sam Wyche.

He also gets credit for turning that franchise around, when in reality that was a result of cheapskate owner Hugh Culverhouse dying, with nowhere to go but up.

He was also a Steeler so that automatically doubles your chances of getting into the HOF. Some of the most ridiculous hall of famers are Steelers: Jerome Bettis, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, and Terry Bradshaw.

I do think Seattle hurt Flores but not as much as not being the 'right' type of minority.

BTW, Jimmy Johnson won 2 SB's and it doesn't look like he's getting in anytime soon either
Ditto with George Seifert. The 1-15 season in Carolina killed his stock.

Several members of this board should be in the Hall of Fame. :)

Bah. Much more important was Callahan not changing calls & signs up even though his team was playing his team’s previous coach.

Cowher lost four AFC championship games. All at home. That's incredible when you think of it.
To be fair , three of those teams ended up winning the Super Bowl, 97 Den, NE 01, 04

Yeah, you don't want to get in an 'innovation' measuring contest between Dungy and Coryell, lol
While true. Dungy has the innovation part and won a SB and went to two other Conference title games while coaching the best run his franchise ever had. Also out of 13 seasons he had 11 double digit win seasons and only 1 losing season.

Coryell only made the playoffs 6 times. Dungy 11.

Dungy win percentage: .668
Coryell win percentage: .572

That's a big difference. Especially since it's only 208 games for Dungy vs 195 games for Coryell.

So even though innovation for innovation Coryell was much better, Dungy has something he can hang his hat on and was much more successful as a HC

Dungy seems less important because his best run coincided with the Patriots. It's not the best resume, but it's a good resume and worthy of the HOF in totality.

Coryell seems alot lesser based on results

Yet we are still watching Coryell football on the field every week while Dungy talks about it.
My core issue here is it's unconscionable recognising and celebrating one of the game's premier innovators isn't an essential part of the HoF. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that watched football pre & post Coryell that doesn't continue to see his impact on the game to this day.

I don't expect that anyone under 50 would be p!ssed off by it but it is disheartening how casually some supposed football fans just dismiss Coryell and don't even recognize we as Pats fans see his version of offense every game.

Being on TV a long time helps a lot

And now it has paid off for Jimmy Johnson as well
Gotta be honest, I kinda thought Ol Jerrah was gonna have to die before Jimmy got in
