NFL Rumors: Tom Brady Won’t Take Hometown Discount To Stay With Patriots

It’s going to be hard to trade for anybody unless you give up the first round pick.

Theres 2 solid TEs (Hooper, Henry) and some solid WRs that would upgrade the offense in free agency.

Maybe Kraft will talk Gronk into one more year to entice Tom to stay? Anything is possible

I think it's more likely Gronk comes back in 2020 than I thought he would in 2019. He needed a year off.

As has been mentioned by numerous reporters and by Kraft, the franchise tag removal was just so Brady could be a free agent. It doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t settle for less than that. Brady wanted a 2/50 extension in the summer and didn’t want to leave here per reports. Team said they wanted to go year-to-year with him from now on. Brady wasn’t happy and said fine, if you want to go year to year with me, I want to go year to year with you, so I insist you can’t use the franchise tag on me.

That said, I agree he won’t be back here for 18m unless his other offers are in that ballpark (as likely as the Jets winning next year’s Super Bowl in my opinion). But 1 year 25 million, he might even though it’s less than the tag figure.

1 year at $25m is a total steal for the Pats. Low number and no commitment beyond a year.

They can structure it as a 3 year $95m deal with base of $1m and $30m and $35 for 3 years and $24m bonus, and 2nd and 3rd year automatically voids. So we get cap hit in 2019 of 13 + 1 + 8 of $22m in 2019 and cap hits of $8m each in 2020 and 2021. All manageable.

Kind of stating the obvious, Brady can't simultaneously look for a top of the market deal and expect top talent to be brought in. There's probably a win-win where Brady takes less ($20M) with an agreement with Belichick that more assets will be spend at WR/TE this year - even getting input from Brady on who he wants. But Brady can't expect $30M and then be upset when there's not enough talent around him.

A few questions.

How is it that other teams pay top dollar for QBs but the Pats can't pay Brady?

Why are NYFL players expected to avoid the O in OTA?

Why are draft picks so important when you can pick up proven players in other ways?

Why do Pats fans keep expecting Gronk to return?

Either with AJ Green should make Brady happy with a Rookie thrown in for good measures. I would double dip at WR again there is a definite NEED for some Speed guys.

We've tried throwing rookies in "for good measure" before, including 2019. It doesn't really work. We need another LaFell/Hogan type signing (was supposed to be Sanu) and probably a #1 to replace Edelman.

It's really not a good free agent class though a lot of older guys plus some meh younger guys.

He loved Bledsoe like a son too.

"Bledsoe Signs $103-Million Deal. New England Patriot quarterback Drew Bledsoe signed the biggest contract in NFL history Wednesday, agreeing to a 10-year, $103-million deal that virtually guarantees he will spend his entire career with the same team. Mar 8, 2001"

Seven months before he's permanently replaced. Who offers a 10 year contract anyways?

Agreed.

Especially in football where the sport is so physical that a player could get knocked out haha

Name another team that pays top dollar for QB that has won as consistently as the Pats the past 20 years?

I don't think anyone was salivating over LaFell or Hogan immediately before we signed them. It's not about flashy additions. There will be a good starting WR available on the cheap one way or another and it's up to the front office to identify that guy.

That has nothing to do with my question and it requires too much research on my part. There could be some over the years.

The reason the Pats won so much over those 20 years was mostly because of the QB, Brady.

Pay the man.

AJ Green has missed the last 23 regular season games.

I want brady back but i also want them to be able to put a winning team at the same time with brady. Him taking a huge chunk of the salary cap won’t help that. Brady has a super model wife who makes more money than him and loves him dearly. Idk how they share their expenses. I am not talking about a lowball offer but an offer where they could other things and sign other pieces.
