NFL Rumors: Tom Brady Won’t Take Hometown Discount To Stay With Patriots

I'm not wrong. It's what the Patriots did last season and it's what they will do again, you don't commit long term and break the bank for a 43 year old QB. We didn't do it last year and we are not this year which why this is an actual episode of Brady potentially not being here next year.

By doing it last year, they needlessly pissed off the QB and put themselves in the middle of an Italian opera. That's led to "Brady potentially not being here next year", when the QB can obviously still play at a high/elite level, which is why your argument doesn't hold up logically. If the reports are true, they could have signed him for 2/$50m, and avoided all of this.

Not doing so was stupid (I acknowledge that a re-think of this position would be necessary if those reports turned out to be erroneous, and he had been demanding 4 years at $30m+).

I feel the same way about everyone in this organization as I did with Gronk towards the end. If they go, they go. Not a damn thing anyone can do about it. If you don’t want to be there, leave. Let the organization keep reloading. This team was destroyed by injuries and inconsistencies at key positions in 2019. Get ready. This team is going to be incredibly different in 2020. I’m interested to see if BB continues to build the roster the same way he always has, or makes a drastic switch to go into the next 5 years with. We have an absurd amount of FA’s that are starters or at minimum, key contributors with a so-so amount of salary cap space to play with. It’s gonna be fun.

One thing is for certain: Bill absolutely needs to hit a home run in this draft. At some point, there needs to be improvement in this area.

Brady had the 11th highest cap hit this year. 2019 Quarterback Contracts and Salaries | Over The Cap He doesn't deserve a raise when factoring in performance and age risk.

He also took the spring off. I bet he was the only QB to not show up to OTAs. I wouldn't give him a raise anyway but if I did it would be tied to actually showing up.

No complaining about the team around you if you scrape out every dollar you can.

Seriously, how much money does one couple need?

I'd offer a guaranteed 1 year/$20M. When he declines I'd move on.

Who is to say Bill will have final say on Brady's future? The owner loves Brady like a son.

If that was the case this wouldn't be the dilemma that it is would been shut down from the door that Brady could be going somewhere so that's mean that it's Bills call otherwise as soon as word got out it would of shutdown immediately by reporting that Brady has absolutely no chance of going anywhere. Him going is very possible and real, or else Rob would of shut it down real quick and let it be known.

I think choosing Brady over Jimmy G. was an indication that Brady is a very special athlete and that fans want him to play his entire career in NE regardless of the cost. It will be pretty nonsensical to let JG go so Brady can stay for two more whole seasons because they aren’t comfortable with his advanced age. Obviously the elbow injury is the variable here, but he just played a near perfect playoff game despite the scoreboard.

Stupid report. So is anyone who believes Brady would take his family & move elsewhere over a mere, for example, $5m difference. Unless the Pats' final offer is insultingly low, like $18m/year.

thanks

-200 seems pretty good but is lower than our odds to win last night were :(

also the odds for teams other than the pats are incredibly different than the book i was looking at. shows how little is known right now

Yes, it’s very interesting that everyone is blowing smoke if they claim Brady has a team in mind. The Chargers story was started by speculation by someone (I think La Confora) with zero beyond that. Brady is clearly telling the truth about uncertainty. The only thing that I think could really change the odds is if McDaniels takes a head coaching job with a team that doesn’t have a franchise QB.

Peter King on Sky Sports live right now talking about his conversation today with Brady. Saying Brady said he wasn’t at all surprised by what happened in the game. Shouldn’t expect something in game that we can’t do in practice and haven’t done all season. Basically saying receiving options haven’t clicked all season and noone should be surprised. Brady told King he wasn’t that disappointed since this was expected. Weird. King saying Brady is 50/50 chance returning to Pats in his opinion but 100% chance to return to NFL next season. Sounded like Brady was a bit ticked that Pats didn’t commit to him and then handicapped him with these WR/TE options.

Atleast some first hand narrative. King said he’s writing his article right now for tomorrow about this.

Crazy stuff. Almost sounded like Brady is resigned to the fact that Pats have moved on from him but he’s not done playing.

Will be interesting King article tomorrow. Brady must have authorized him to write this to get the word out he’s available.

This is a moot point right now. Who knows what he truly wants or ask for... Come April, it will be clearer...

Btw sounds like a lot of Pats forum is ready to move on from Brady too. So his frustration is legit.

Makes perfect sense and meshes with what Brady has said publicly. I’m just glad Kraft cut AB...that was an awesome move.

Def don’t want your 40 year old QB taking those hits with no backup

He'd be crazy to stay here. No wrs, no tes, bad ol. Another year of beating his head against a wall?

Things can change fast.

Well Kraft loved Bledsoe like a son and when Bledsoe was mad he didn't get his job backed he went to Kraft and yet Kraft told him that BB had the final decision. So Kraft has been known to not get involved in the past. We shall see if he gets involved this time if BB and Brady can't work it out.

Patriots and Brady need each other right now. Pats to find a bridge to the next QB-brady is still better than at least 25 other QBs and brady because this system and coaching offers him the easiest transition. Just my 2 cents. Hopefully neither of them bring their ego to their table and realize the good they have and come to a working situation.
So Matt LaCosse and Ben Watson weren't rope-a-doping everyone for the whole season, it turns out.

Definitely way too early to second-guess the 2019 draft class, I concede that, but it's hard not to think about how much better this offense could've looked with Metcalf instead of Harry and Dawson Knox instead of Harris. I wasn't calling for either of those guys over what we picked at the time so I can't take credit, but lots of people were.

I preferred Harry over Metcalf and still could well see him having a better career, but Metcalf turned out to be more pro-ready than advertised and Harry appears to have been less so.

It has to happen sometime.
