Josh McDaniels News and Rumors

If McDaniels ends up in Cleveland, I would not be surprised to see Scarnecchia
join him. Recently, Scarnecchia spoke very highly of McDaniels.
Maybe if he was 10 years younger.

I still think McD goes to Cleveland. With only the Browns job still left, I'm surprised he hasn't moved up his Friday interview. Browns have reached out to Schwartz. Now the offense has holes both on the field and on the sideline. Most likely O'Shea could replace Judge as WR coach. OC and ST still a question. Next question, will Scar retire? He has had a trainee for a couple of years.

I was just reading a couple of Browns message boards on whether Josh is an acceptable HC choice.

It's a mixed bag. They like the local kid aspect and the fact he loves Baker. They are bothered how he flamed out in Denver.

What I couldn't find anywhere was how the Cleveland media feels about a Josh hiring. Was there ever any regret shown that they were too hard on BB's coaching tenure? Or is the media licking their lips to destroy another BB clone?

Media out here is still hyping McD. They were afraid he was going to the Giants.

Hyping Josh as to what they think will happen or what they want to happen?

Some questions:

1.) Does anyone know anything about McDaniels' relationship with Dorsey? Dorsey came from K.C. and might have seen McDaniels flame out with the Broncos up close?

2.) What other candidates are interviewing with the Browns before Friday? (e.g. Schwartz?)

3.) Will Cleveland wait on the results of the divisional round before making a decision? (e.g. to interview KC's OC or SF's DC?)

Dorsey is gone. If he were still there, he’d never work with McDaniels in a million years after what he did to Chris Ballard (Dorsey’s good friend) in Indianapolis.

CLE is clearing the way by getting rid of Dorsey. Perhaps Casserio will be their GM. Josh and Casserio make a nice package.

Why would he want to play under a different OC, presumably one that doesnt know his strengths and weaknesses that well?
What would Brady be afraid would happen, 3 runs to the right? I get the impression Josh is seen as a known, successful quantity by the Patriots, but wouldn't be surprised to see improvement in the offence without him similar to the improvement on D after Patricia left. They both seem to get too comfortable in a system and can't evolve.

It appears, at least, that Cole Popovich is being trained to be the next OL coach. He has an OL background and was Scar’s assistant for three years, and the move to assistant RB coach this season makes sense in terms of getting more exposure to the running game blocking schemes.

Scriz you seem like a Pats insider good stuff.:)

O’Connell May be
available

redskins zeroing I’m on Scott Turner as OC according to nfl.com

Josh is in a real bind here. If he stays with NE and Brady leaves, there is the possibility that the 2020 Pats offense will take a big hit and his stock will drop considerably for future HC vacancies. On the other hand, if he leaves for Cleveland, he misses out on the possibility that Brady comes back and perhaps the chance to regain some of their magic from 2018.

Maybe. But I also seem to recall that his stock soared most on the heels of 2008 and Cassel filling in for the injured Brady.

Anyway, my money (if I were to bet) is on Schwartz.

I know that I likely stand alone, but I am curious to see how Gregg Williams and Todd Haley would’ve done with that team in 2019. Both were old school disciplinarians with a good amount of experience, and I thought they did a nice job with the “no B.S.” approach over the last part of 2018.

With all of the big egos on that team, there’s a decent chance that they could’ve benefited from keeping them. Instead, the Browns are going to Brown, and that’s why they fired both for Freddie freaking Kitchens.

I see it differently. He is under 50 years old, makes good $, has established a family in the area... if he is a good candidate, teams will call again next year.

If Brady leaves and NE's offense is ranked a lot worse than this year's, people will say that NE's offensive success was all because of Brady. On the other hand, if Stidham or another QB takes the reins, and NE has a great offensive season then it'll make him look like a genius. It's a risk that McDaniels would have to take staying here in NE. I'll bet that he and Brady are discussing as we speak about whether Brady wants to return. Brady's decision is going to influence McD's decision one way or the other. I am hoping McD staying here is an indication that Tom wants to stay.
