Impact of Chad O’Shea

Yea even if he decided to play we should have added before this year. After him we've had little to nothing. Just really made it hard on ourselves. Surprising considering how much we value the position.

It seriously is one of the things I'd love some background info that we will never get. I am confident that they had valid reasons to do what they did but the end result was still a mess.

I wonder what role, if any, Brady had.

I suspect they thought Lacosse would develop into a serviceable, receiving TE, but he can’t stay on the field.

Yeah his health is just an unfortunate situation. When he is out there blocking he looks solid. His hands are also at least solid. But between his injuries and Brady's/McD refusal to go to TEs much it has been a crappy season.

It all starts up top. Nobody needed to tell them Gronk was close. A quick look at the depth chart tells you you're empty behind 87. Blaming Gronk is weak imo. He doesn't run or coach the team. This is on the FO.
It's on both...Gronk did indeed jerk us around, when "a couple of weeks" became a couple of Months...shame on him...no free beers for him from me...

As for the FO, I've pretty much said all there is to say regarding their Offseason From Hell...

And regarding O'Shea, he might just very well be the One Who (Really) Got Away...though he also failed to teach our WRs (& TEs) how NOT to commit OPI almost as poorly as our STs/WRs coach is doing now...

That's the equivalent to cherry picking one play in a blowout loss. I'm sorry but blaming Gronk is so weak it's not funny.

He's not the coach, GM or have any say in who we add. We don't need to run our plans by 87 he's just a player. A great one but blaming him is just missing the point by miles imo.

I think Gronk bears some responsibility, but 80% should be on Belichick.

We could have added to the position at anytime. Are we only allowed a certain # of TEs? Of course not.
Gronk has nothing to do with why we didn't add. Again anyone paying the slightest bit of attention knew he was closer to the end than beginning.

Failure is on FO 150%.

Anyone stuck on Gronk/Cook sounds likes they're 15 years old with no understanding for the game & I'm sorry if that comes off harsh.

Bill wasn't asking Brady if he was ready to go or not. He drafted Jimmy which was the smart thing. Plenty of examples like that.

You don't wait for players to make the decisions you (FO) get paid to do. That's literally their entire job. Plan accordingly for the future. They dropped the ball big time.

Honestly blaming Gronk is silly in so many levels but think abt the conflict of interest. Sure you want to know what he's thinking but he's the player, not someone making decisions abt depth, the future etc.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner.

They should have set a hard deadline for a decision before FA opened and if Gronk refused to make decision moved on from him. You can't be taken hostage by any player. And that even ignores the refusal to pick up a TE in the draft which was a bigger issue. Whether that player would have worked out or not is a different story. But standing pat was just not the right decision.

They already had money tied-up at the position with Gronkowski, so their options were at least somewhat limited...and maybe they ass-umed that the longer he didn't announce a "retirement" the better the chances were that he would return...

I completely agree of course that the FO failed, miserably, to be more proactive during free agency, and their decision not to address the position during the draft was a colossal, fireable offense - as I & others stated Immediately afterwards, same as it was when they thought it better taking on Dwayne Allen's contract instead of drafting George Kittle.

Not placing even 1% of the blame on Gronkowski, however, lets him off the hook way too easily.

Sign the beast!

Was having judge pull double duty a mistake? We will see this offseason. If bb splits the jobs up and has a coach for each, then the answer is yes.

I would rather see Pat Shurmer as OC than O'Shea.

Troy Brown isn’t sticking around for Bill’s humor

Judge will go with McDaniels if McDaniels leaves.

They let Gronk jerk them around. And it cost them Cook. The TE group has been a mess. It absolutely needs to be top priority in the draft.

Patstastic this is bad even for you. There’s the possibility, first, that the Pats jerked Gronk around and not vice versus. As they say, everything is possible for a price. I can’t imagine that his contract wasn’t a factor in retirement; in 2018 he didn’t hit any of the incentives they built in to appease him, despite being incredibly valuable as a blocker

Patriots has ample opportunity to sign Jared Cook and screwed it up; just like with Humphries they made the higher offer but after the player accepted. The FO is to blame for gaffes like this.

Gronk had been linked to retirement for years. They have had years to figure out a backup plan and haven’t even devoted a mid-round pick. And he had zero obligation to inform the team regarding his future plans. With all his health problems, it’s a complicated decision, and again one that was likely also a decision on the Patriots part not to bend on salary/veteran days off, etc. Gronk referenced the grind of playing for Belichick several times after retiring.

Hire O’Shea now for the playoffs!!! He knows McDaniels’ system and has had a year away to see the Pats WR corps from the outside. He can do nothing but help the Pats.

Yeah, Cook, the guy we abused and that got abused in the playoffs when he was on the team. We sure lost out letting a guy that cant make a contested catch walk
