Penalties being considered for the Pats - UPDATED 1/1/2020

Patriots will get the absolute worst punishment possible given the circumstances. It is what it is. I was absolutely stunned by the punishment for "Deflategate." I won't be taken by surprise this time.

If the team is stripped of picks, they aren't able to appeal. That was in the last C.B.A.
CBA is irrelevant to team discipline. The CBA is between the NFL and the players.

The teams are governed/controlled by the NFL Bylaws & Constitution and further rules and regulations made under the authority of that document.

But yes, teams have no formal appeals process though they can ask for reconsideration (as the Chargers did in Towelgate). And all teams have signed an agree-not-to-sue covenant where they have all bindingly agreed to not sue the league or each other. (However, the federal antitrust statutes do render that provision unenforceable when it comes to lawsuits in the antitrust realm.) (This all came out in the miles of newsprint in the wake of Deflategate.)

Wait apparently Fox is going to air a part of the video this morning according to the pregame on 98.5 unless I really heard wrong.

Well if that’s true then I expect the severity of NE’s punishment will be directly related to media and public reaction to the footage. Not a good sign.

From Florio:

“Twelve years ago, Jay Glazer was the first (and only) to get his hands on the Spygate video. Today, he’ll debut the Spygate 2 tape. Sort of.

Glazer, we’re told, has obtained the video the exchange in the press box between the Patriots representative who was filming the Bengals’ sideline and Bengals’ employees who busted him. The video starts with the camera pointed in the same direction that the Patriots camera was pointed (apparently to confirm that the Patriots were filming the Cincinnati sideline) and then pivots to the back and forth once the Patriots representative was confronted.
Audio includes, we’re told, an offer by the Patriots representative to erase the tape on the spot.

The video will be played during the FOX pregame show on Sunday. And it’s probably just a matter of time before Glazer gets the tape that was generated by the Patriots representative. For now, only the Bengals and the NFL have it.”

well this will be bad.

Guys tune into Fox...Jay Glazer will be releasing the video and audio of the tape

I thought it wasn’t the actual tape but the tape of the Pats camera that will be released with the audio about the offer to delete it.

The tape should show the video monitor that has the footage of the Pats camera I think...

It's amazing isn't it. The public crying is loud but not loud enough so lets authorize the release of the cinci version and show selective parts. The fact that it's not the NFL's tape but the bengals camera phone tape lets us know how they will be playing this. Cinci wouldn't hand it over otherwise.

It's so enraging. They are playing the same card as Deflategate when they focused solely on the fact that Brady didn't hand over his phone and let the public roll with that as a deciding fact. Now they will let this poor guy's "We can delete this tape right now" comment do the same. That's the only thing they are releasing this for. Everyone already knows what you will see on the rest of the tape.

A consistent shot of the sidelines not zoomed into anyone in particular and not panning to the scoreboard and field to get information is all I want to see.

Here we go on Fox with the Pats spy jokes....ok that was kind of funny

The tape is going to make us look bad, especially the moron who offered to erase the tape

A loss of a draft pick, especially if it's a significant one, and I might just be done with the NFL.
If goodell strips a top three pick and kraft just bends over and takes it i would be finished with the nfl. Deflate gate was a total bull sht made up offense, this appears to be a minor mis-understanding. It would be getting 10 years for going five miles over the speed limit.

the way fox is hyping up this "exclusive" that Glazer has with the video is concerning

like someone just said here, is the NFL trying to gauge the public reaction to this and then give a penalty based on it

As long as it doesn’t zoom in on signals then show field and scoreboard with info.

That was the whole point of the leak late last night.

Ok the video is coming up after the commercial break...

They don't have that tape they only have the one recording the guy recording. They are releasing this for the sole purpose of showing the guy say he can delete the tape for them. That's the only reason. They will then let that stew in public and deliver a harsher penalty. I really didn't think they were going to take picks but now I'm changing my mind. Any NFL material is prohibited from being released so I have to assume NFL authorized this.
