Our punt returns are pretty non existent. The kid brought spark and the potential of another playmaker.

Add this to the uncertainty in the kicking game and basically our punter and kick coverage are only getting it done.

We don't even really have a reliable fair catcher. It became Sanu when he came in.

Do we give a rookie a chance like Myers or Harry?

What exactly about Sanu makes you feel like he is not reliable on returns ?

The only thing that concerns me is that high ankle sprain.

He's reliable but Gunner ran with reckless abandon... More potential for a big return

I mean realistically you have a 50/50 shot that any return gets negated by some minor "block in the back" penalty anyway.

Add in that this reckless abandon can lead to turnovers and I am not sure with the offense being what it is this is the time to introduce more variance.

That being said I certainly enjoyed watching Gunner. He was just a victim of the roster size limits.

... or a big mistake. I would agree with your view if Gunner outran or ran around defenders but he runs straight into contact.

Last night Sanu could not cut at all, probably due to the ankle, so it seems that his marching orders were to fair catch everything, if at all possible

That he has a bad ankle and for right now, poses no real threat in the punt return game?

Wonder why he was even out there. Should have put Jules back there if Sanu is that badly hurt.

I thought he was injured and placed on IR, although maybe that’s what you mean.

Big play capability is missing on this team with lack of speed and elusiveness at PR, KR, WR, TE, and RB. Reduces the margin for error.

Were any of Houston's punts even returnable? I feel like they were all hangers or near the goal line. I don't think Devin Hester would have returned any of those last night.

I just thought it was hilarious how casually Sanu caught the punt.

You are right... With an anemic offense... This team has replied on defensive scores... Blocked punts... Turnovers that set up good field position... The kicking game has been 50/50.... Eliminating a pint return is getting rid of another possibility to gain yardage... But let's face it we had these same issues last yr but had a running game... And because if offensive struggles the suberbowl was 13-3... This team has little margin of error

Hit the nail on the head... It's basically Edelman.. a one man offense

Gunner did absolutely nothing special as a punt returner. Are we going to keep making threads about guys who “bring energy” by acting excited and youthful? This is ridiculous.

You are right... There's nothing special about the offense... Running or passing... Special teams aren't so special... We can't make fgs... We are good at punting... Defensive turnovers.. 3rd down... The run defense is average.... At some point the news guys got to step up... It can't be an offense of Edelman.. it worked in the Superbowl but that was because we had gronk

Elusiveness. Hahaha.

I think if there was more space they would have kept him on the active roster through the injury and used him down the road. But then again I am just speculating that it wasn't a major injury that landed him there and it was mostly just to free up a spot.

With Gunners quickness and fast learning, I think he has a potential to be a good WR in the Patriots system.
