How Can the Pats Stop the Ravens?

I got the sense the Pats were playing a little possum in that game. I might be wrong, but I think you will see a different defense if they meet again.
no way in h-e-double hockey sticks would BB sacrifice a potential conference tiebreaker by playing possum

To be honest, I don't think Bill (or anyone, really) knew that the Ravens were a team we'd be concerned with losing the no. 1 seed to...

The threat has always been KC, but since they've sputtered, the only thing the Chiefs can do to us now IS give the Ravens the no.1 seed (by beating us in two weeks).

I don’t think that poster was offering a scheme as much as holing for an injury.
But it surely needs to be a rule for the d. The team that gets killed by the option is the one that doesnt commit to responsibilities. And time has proven if you make the qb pay, it changes things.
Yeah. No ****. You want to hit the quarterback any chance you get no matter if you’re playing the option or if you’re coming after a pocket passer. The problem is that it is very difficult to get a clean shot on Jackson. This is essentially what every DC is trying to do, Phil. He’s made them look like idiots. Another problem, and you’ll know this if you’ve watched more games of theirs the man just the Pats and Rams games, is that he isn’t overly reliant on the option to be effective. That makes “hit him” an overly simplistic observation.

My point is, it's a thing: Patriots hate IS REAL. Being a fan not living in New England is hell sometimes. A lot of this has to do with the narratives created by the media, which is all these fans of other teams have to go on (because they sure as hell don't watch the Patriots when we aren't playing their team).
The local Boston media dumped on the hometown NFL team since the merger, largely because they disliked Billy Sullivan. And, they liked being acclaimed for supposedly being objective and not blind homers. They're full of themselves. Anyway, national media looks and thinks, "Well, if their own local media hates them, they must really suck". A lot of winning happened for the Pats in the 70's and 80's, but it was always denigrated and passed off in the media. All the media went to town on the Pats in '81 when we went 2-14. Not one media person ever then or now mentioned that was the sole losing season for the team in a period of 13 years. And, the fake cheating scandals led by Goodell have been debunked by only Sally Jenkins and one Cardinal fan YouTuber.
So it's nice that you have the luxury to not have to care about what people think of the Patriots. Just know that the fandom is larger than Boston, and out here, in these streets, **** gets real.
First, like Dallas of the 60's-90's, we win all the time. That's annoying. We also shat all over our tradition and history by pulling the total loser, bush league move of destroying our logo and uniforms against the fans' wishes, so we look stupid which makes it easier to denigrate us. And Belichick and Brady are not media ass kissers, so there you go.

Lou Merloni was ****ting his pants today talking about the Ravens. As if we've never seen this before. Sure right now they look unstoppable and they would beat us today 7 out of 10 times. Talk to me in about 6 or 7 weeks and also let's see who has the 1 seed before we crown them champions. What a goddamned little b**** he sounded like.

For those of us that don't stay in a Patriots-centric bubble like this forum, these narratives are something we have to deal with, online and in our personal lives.

I've had to say this twice now-- a lot of you people on this forum live in or near New England, so you don't have to deal with opposing fans or ideas. For those of us that don't, we have to deal with this in real life. I've been in fist fights for simply wearing my Patriots colors. I'm LITERALLY in a somewhat heated Reddit argument with two people right now on r/NFL for simply stating "I believe a rematch with the Ravens will go differently". My fans constantly give me **** for repping the Pats in my streams or my Twitter.

Stand tall. You have 20 years of shattered records and unprecedented domination of the league by the Patriots to throw in their faces.

Also the media creating false narratives and whipping up a frenzy of unquestioning idiots is a sad reality.

Clock killing, ball control offense minimising Baltimore's ability to possess the ball. Yes, it's going to be on Brady.

And having an effective running game also which unfortunately I have little faith in.

So true. And just like Mahomes LJ will not maintain what hes done so far. Be it injury or defenses figuring it out. Weve seen this movie over and over and over again.

I don’t think there’s anything at all to them “playing possum” and it’s nonsensical that they weren’t playing to win like every game.

But after that 2015 disaster, you shouldn’t overestimate BB’s preference for health over HFA. That loss to Miami the last game of the season was probably the biggest coaching blunder he’s ever made. We all knew that the Patriots and Broncos both had tremendous homefield advantages against each other, yet they treated the week 17 game like an idiotic scrimmage, handing the ball off to Steven Jackson like 20 straight times. I’ve never been more frustrated watching a team p1ss away four months of effort for absolutely no reason and knew they would lose that Broncos rematch, which was legacy changing at the time.

I’m sure they’d rather have the game later though? But I guess
If the game ends at 430pm, they'll be on their charter back to CA by 7pm. Figure a 5h flight -3h for timezone and they are home by 9pm. If it's a 430pm game, they'll get home at 1230am on Monday.

Ratbirds look scary but christ its November.

Pats killed the NYJ 45-7 in 2010 and that didn't mean a damn thing

The Patriots will be hated as long as they are successful. That's just how it is. I get what you are saying but why is for you "the Ravens are the best team ever and will beat the Pats again" a better narrative than Did BB make a mistake in trading Jimmy G.

The media could talk the Patriots up all year and the haters would still call them Cheatriots or whatever.

You will definitely see a different scheme if they meet again. It was clear that Belichick stuck to what he’s done all season and did not tailor the scheme to an opponent that put very different personell groupings on the field.

Make no mistake, Belichick is already thinking about a scheme for this game - you can only watch so much Dolphins and Bengals film.

Hey - he was the only one saying the Pats would lose to the Ravens and he was right. I can see how this makes Pats fans mad, I listen to WEEI alot at work but he's just giving his opinions. Sometimes its okay to think the Pats won't win a game. Wiggy picks the Pats every SINGLE TIME..... I don't like that either. Its just being a plan honk and not being realistic.

So I like when Lou does this.

It was the way he was saying it. I think most objective fans would agree TODAY the pats would lose. But the defending champs with 4 of the last 5 SB appearances deserve more respect than he was giving. He was also acting like we'd lose 57 to 0 with his tone and there was nothing that could stop them. Give me a break.
