OT: Astros caught cheating to win their title!

This is actually much bigger than Spygate. Our beloved incident wasn't real time, it was research from past games to potentially help if the other team hadn't changed signs in the meantime. But it was research on past games. This is "live". Use technology to steal the sign and immediately get the sign to the batter.

(disclaimer - I'm as Astro hater).

The Pats stole signals in front of everyone to see, including the video guys from the opposing teams. Astros were surreptitious about it.

Good thing the Nats took care of them...;)

Does Cora not come from that tree? They have always been a bit shady to me. Does not bother me. Just pointing it out.

I believe Cora was the Assistant/Bench coach for the Astros that year. He may have been the guy actually doing the bat banging against the wall in the dugout.

.

Sorry, this was already posted above, but it's a great breakdown...

Very informative, but FYI I'm not sure @Ian will be happy with you for pasting a complete copyrighted article in his website to put it at legal risk........

.

Good thing you read it before it gets deleted

So glad the Red Sox beat them last year.
In other news, the Wayland Ladies Auxiliary Croquet Team has been sanctioned for alleged etiquette violations.

Yeah - don't do that. That's one of those things where they'll send me a nastygram, so posting highlights or parts of a story you want to discuss is allowed. Just definitely not the entire thing.

This was one of the craziest moments in TV history. Why the hell did THIS make him emotional ?

He's just squeezing the cheeks - was prairie dogging.

Who cares.

Dont use signs if you feel so strongly about them being stolen.

Estrogen tablets

I don’t understand how they can pull this off. Once the pitcher agrees with the catcher’s signals, there’s only a few seconds or so until he goes into his throwing motion. The batter needs to have his eyes trained on the pitcher. So, how do they relay the pitch call to the batter fast enough?

I get why teams would try to do it. It’s a slow paced 3+ hour game played every single day. They might as well do something to entertain themselves.

Does this mean my dodgers finally got another title in 2017??!

Wait, so this cat knew they were cheating to win a WS and didn’t say anything when it benefited him, but now that he is no longer a member of the organization, he’s gonna blow the whistle?? I haven’t read into it yet, I’m at work. Maybe my answer is there. :D

I honestly feel it went something like this:

Scene: An ESPN production meeting. Trey Wingo, Mark Brunell, Jerome Bettis and Brian Dawkins are sitting around a table. An ESPN executive enters the room.

Exec: Okay guys, I just got off the phone with the folks at 345 Park Ave. They want us to push this deflated footballs story like it was the crime of the century. To me, it seems kind of silly to make such big deal out of a few decimal points worth of air, but we have our orders. So, everyone understand? Deflated footballs were the key to the Patriots success, you've never seen anything like this, blackeye for the sport, think of the children and on and on. Got it?

All: Yes!

Exec: I was thinking. We need something to really drive the point home. Mark, when we come back from Brady's press conference, could you cry? Or, at least, appear like you might cry? It doesn't really matter what Brady says. We really want people to know how upsetting this whole thing is and what better way than a fellow QB to get emotional about it.

Brunell: Okay, but I...

Exec: I know, I know. You're not an actor. I think that reaction, though, will cement the whole piece. Bus, Dawk and Trey, they're all going to bury the Patriots, too, but I think you're the key to this. Just try and think of something upsetting...Something like...Like when you found out that all your investments failed and all your hard earned money was gon-No, no, no, no, don't cry now. Save that. Save that. Take it easy. Put that idea way in the back of your head, we'll cue you on the set and then, waterworks. Got it? Good! Alright, gentlemen. Let's go make some magic.

Baseball doesn't care about sign stealing. TBH everyone is expected to do it.

Football on the other hand, Goodell wanted a controversy to 'punish' the Patriots for being too successful.

I loved seeing his lying sack of **** face when he had to hand the Lombardi over to Kraft after the trumped up 'Deflategate' ******** that got Brady suspended 4 games for nothing. The pain was mostly on the inside but so clear on his plastic face.

Goodell is driven by the other owners, who in turn only care about what the public thinks. If the public wants to hang Belichick or Brady, Goodell like a trained monkey will obey. On the other hand, Rob Manfred does not operate based on public perception, at least to my knowledge.
