Biggest concern is against the run, I was shocked to see them allow so many yards on the ground against the Browns, but though it was just one of those days, but then to see I repeated again against the Ravens is sounding alarm bells ! I hope they fix that, we have a few game coming up against opponents that have very good runners !

Agree. I think we saw a huge breakaway run vs the Redskins too. Patriots' D seems to stop the run well at times but some major breakdowns have been occurring with too much frequency. A uniquely run heavy team really exposed that. But for those have been around a while this isn't the first time the Run D struggled a bit and had an issue with a running QB, only to face same team again and shut them down. Hoping for that kind of repeat...

My only surprise was that Jackson was not playing scared. I really expected at least an interception out of him. Ed Reed and Lewis mustbe really laid down the gameplan on how to play us.

I think Harbaugh and Roman had an idea. They really had Jackson stay within the game plan and controlled his play. Well done.

Yea this makes sense as to why it looked a certain way at first glance to me. Probably should have picked it up myself seeing the TEs. Zone/Gap, not the biggest difference very nice read. I'm not on Twitter as much but hes a great follow.

Id also love to hear from someone abt the way we/LBs handled the ro. It was rough & practically spanked us at times where we were 1 v 2 against Jackson & other very capable RBs. Just the lack of adjustment I guess.

To me, it looked like a bit of a rope-a-dope. The Ravens sprung something on us (gap blocking vs ZBS) that we didn’t see on film. Similar to the Pittsburgh game in 2011 where they suddenly started playing a lot of aggressive bump and run.

Paul Alexander was on Sirius XM NFL Radio with Kirwin and Miller and really went into detail about how the Ravens attacked us up front. Went over how the Patriots like to have people flow at the LOS as opposed to attack on every down, which we all know by now, and then how the Ravens' scheme had them blocking down from the inside out to negate that. That's why we saw a lot of piss poor gap integrity and overpursuit.

Good find. This seems appallingly basic and really bad if true. I haven’t watched film but from what he posted I get what he means. They must have mixed up their blocking schemes and introduced gap blocking during their bye week, otherwise the Pats certainly would have picked that up in film study and prepped for it.

You can study all the film you want but if a team throws something different at you, and can execute it at that high of a level, it’s going to be an L. No reason to think they won’t do it again should they play one another in the playoffs. The Pats should at least be better prepared for it next time, though. Alexander is great if you want to take a deep dive into blocking schemes and he and Kirwin firing things off of one another is must-hear radio every Monday afternoon. That spot alone makes the Sirius subscription worth it.

The extra week for prep seems to have really helped the Ravens, then? In the past, it hasn't been a big deal vs. the Pats but from what I'm reading here, perhaps it did.

Is it reasonable to say that the Pats have seen the best the Ravens have to throw at them, while the Ravens haven't seen the best of the Pats by any means?

It's not an unfamiliar strategy, though. BB, Mayo and Bielema know this well and that's how they counteracted it so quickly. I suspect the Ravens rarely used a gap blocking scheme. I never picked up on it in the few Ravens' games I watched (of course, that doesn't mean they wren't doing it).

We should be playing a 1972 scheme not a 2019 scheme.

I could have sworn they also ran a double-wing a few times. (2 TE, 2 WB, 1 FB, 1 running QB). That's Pop Warner ****. And the Pats were getting gashed by it.

It's a regular season game on the road against a really good team. The Patriots lost 5 regular season games last year and won the Super Bowl. It always feels like a big deal in the moment when the Patriots lose. After all, it's rare. The team is 8-1. Most likely they will have the number one seed in the playoffs. I like their chances at home. Now, of course there will be things to correct. There always are, even after a win. But that's Belichick's job. As a fan who doesn't have to worry about that, I'm pretty happy with 8-1.

Because last week a very similar no call was reversed on challenge. Not impossible and worth the price here.

Week 2 against the Dolphins, Gordon ran a very similar pick -- he came across the middle from the outside and contacted the inside DB, while a receiver slipped into the flat and caught the pass. A penalty was not called on the field, but challenged by Flores and ruled OPI after review.

The plays were nearly identical in nature, which made me surprised that Belichick didn't challenge this play against BAL, since he had essentially seen the same play several weeks earlier and it was in fact overturned and ruled OPI following a challenge.
