Official Post Game Thread-Ravens beat the Pats

Kinda alluded to that, " expanding" on what I wrote after watching again but more lack of adjustments in the Ken's thread I think.

Bill seemed furious last night. Deep down I think he's a lot more mad at himself than the players.

His halftime comment was coaching needs to be better.

Hey guys....just stopping by to read the day after reactions.....First I will say that I have immense respect for the Patriots organization. The Patriots are a good team and will be there in the mix in the end....they always are. As far as last nights game is concerned it seemed like it was just one of those nights.....from our persepective it was one of those games that the Ravens were going to win....somehow. They had a huge advantage by being able to prepare for two weeks. In the NFL that is huge....BIG! Jackson? he is a talent, I see that some of you mentioned "gimmick". Not so sure about that. If you look at his numbers he can throw out of the pocket. But he is a race horse....you have to let him run. In my opinion you ride him as far as he takes you. He is a big strong kid. Don't forget he is only 22. He will get smarter.....more football wise. IF....IF he stays healthy the rest of the NFL will have to deal with him. I also seen here that some of you talk about "if Edelman doesn't fumble"....well if Young doesn't muff that punt and the Ravens march down and score again they basically put the Pats away early......the Patriots recover the fumble and get right back in the game. Yep, the turning point was Edleman's fumble. That was huge.....turned the entire game around. The Patriots fought back to get momentum then lost it right there....never really having a chance after that. I also seen one or two talk about how the Patriots should have won......not buying that. If you were supposed to win you would have. Lastly, I dont think the Patriots defense is one of the best ever. Long way to go to top the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens. You don't play 8 games and declare yourself "best ever" But I have good news!!!!!! I saved myself some money on car insurance! See you guys in January!

Paul Alexander was on Sirius XM NFL Radio with Kirwin and Miller and really went into detail about how the Ravens attacked us up front. Went over how the Patriots like to have people flow at the LOS as opposed to attack on every down, which we all know by now, and then how the Ravens' scheme had them blocking down from the inside out to negate that. That's why we saw a lot of piss poor gap integrity and overpursuit.

This illustrates a big part of the problem. The ravens have 10 players between the hashes within 5 yards of the football. The patriots have 5. Doomed.

My only surprise was that Jackson was not playing scared. I really expected at least an interception out of him. Ed Reed and Lewis mustbe really laid down the gameplan on how to play us.

Biggest concern is against the run, I was shocked to see them allow so many yards on the ground against the Browns, but though it was just one of those days, but then to see I repeated again against the Ravens is sounding alarm bells ! I hope they fix that, we have a few game coming up against opponents that have very good runners !

Yea this makes sense as to why it looked a certain way at first glance to me. Probably should have picked it up myself seeing the TEs. Zone/Gap, not the biggest difference very nice read. I'm not on Twitter as much but hes a great follow.

Id also love to hear from someone abt the way we/LBs handled the ro. It was rough & practically spanked us at times where we were 1 v 2 against Jackson & other very capable RBs. Just the lack of adjustment I guess.

Boy, we came out flatter than Kyrie's Earth in the first quarter. The fumble by Jules ended the comeback, would have loved to see the game outcome if we had scored on that drive.

My positives:

I'm glad it happened at this time, against this team. I honestly think we needed a humbling game after all the "GOAT Defense" talk, and now can head into Bye to prepare for this tough stretch of games. As for Baltimore.....all I can say is a potential January rematch will not go as smoothly.

Meyers played ONE snap last night. If they weren't going to use him, it makes zero sense to me to make Harry inactive. Limit him to red zone snaps, while waiting for him to get into NFL shape (as BB has said many times there is a difference between being in shape and being in NFL shape) and to work with Brady over the bye week.

They should/could have asked him to focus on learning 15-20 potential red zone plays and make the Ravens respect his size and playmaking ability in the EZ. WTF, Bill!

We let Bennett go because he didn't fit the 3-4 D, which worked against anemic offenses, but no so much against a run heavy O. Another non-mistake by the team because who could've predicted this would happen.

Well now have to face DAL and HOU which are both top 5 at about 5 yds/carry. Their QBs can pass too.

Dungy had a good break down on a ravens run play. He pointed out the ravens ol matched up man to man and then the Pat's had 3 players on the left and 1 player on the right.

Simple. Jackson and Ingram ran to the right and made the lone NE player choose who to close on. There is no correct choice because Jackson can keep or hand off.

It reminds me of chess when you move your chess piece on offense placing your opponent in a position where your piece can take 2 of his or her pieces. I win with either piece you choose to move because I'm taking the other.

When they stopped using the 3-4, how many actual 4-man defensive lines did they used? Sure looked like it was mostly the same old linebackers on the edge. It’s not as easy as saying Bennett is a good fit for everything that isn’t the 3-4.

How long can Lamar Jackson realistically stay healthy in the NFL? I mean, this really is like a college offense with designed running plays from Jackson, and his dancing/juking is going to lead to some monster hits, along with the cumulative hits he’s taking on regular tackles. The problem for him is that his “accuracy” is based on his threat to run and defenses shifting, giving receivers more spacing. If he were, say, playing on a bum ankle, I think he would be disastrous as a pocket passer only.

It’s working now, so it works when he’s fully healthy. But there’s a reason why teams don’t use a run first QB in the NFL, with Cam Newton being the closest thing in recent years. But Cam is a big dude and has a much better passing game than Jackson. Jackson only weighs about 210 lbs; Cam is about 35 lbs heavier and may be finished at age 30, which is longer than I thought he’d make it. Andrew Luck is a big guy too who liked to run and throw his body into players like a RB. That didn’t end well.

I don’t see this working out long term. Am I just being a homer here? Seems pretty obvious this guy’s running style is pretty reckless for a QB, and losing a step of quickness will make all the difference in the world.

How long do you think he can really play like this before he’s forced to change his style/regress?
