Trade Deadline

Not a major need? You do know that Wynn played guard at Georgia? Right? You could put them side by side and have a pretty great pair. Economically is the tough part, but this would transform our line big time.

I didn't know that because that actually didn't happen. He was the starting LT for Georgia and whatever additional positional diversity he brings to the table is a completely different story.

He was the best LT in his draft class and looked absolutely fantastic against the Steelers. There is no need at all to trade for someone who has not played in a year, pay an extra early round pick AND an additional 5m.

This is just silly use of resources.

He’s under contract for 2.5 seasons, not a half season rental. That means even the bad teams can be involved.

Among the contenders, Seattle seems to be the next most common team mentioned for tight ends.

With Dissley apparently out with an achilles injury it would make sense for them to smell around Howard. They have 3 picks in the first two rounds.

He played both guard and tackle in college. Started 12 games at LG before moving to tackle in 2017.

The person in question said "he played at guard for Georgia" and not "he played some games at guard for Georgia".

Saying the former is highly misleading because as soon as the coaching staff there found the right position for him at LT that is who he became and also why he got drafted so early.

The poster needs to be more specific with words or will just come off as misleading.

Fair enough

Not since Adam Seward has this forum been so willing to part with a first round draft pick.

Is he still available? Guys a beast, I’d send a 1st for him all day.

Not having a 1st or a 2nd would suck. But plenty of 3s make jumping into the 2nd not very difficult.

The question is realistically whether we will be able to select a better TE than Howard at 31/32. I don't think so. In addition we get him on a rookie deal for a further two years plus the 5th year option. That seems worth a late 1st.

Obviously it will suck to not have 1st or 2nd rounders but we have a deep roster. Harry/Williams/Harris/Cajuste/Froholdt were high picks this year and none have really played. They can expect to have bigger roles next year.

If we really fancy keeping hold of the 1st rounder, perhaps we could offer a 2021 2nd and a 2020 3rd

Bad news [everyone!!]. PFF rates OJ Howard as one of worst blocking tight ends in the NFL. Umm, maybe we're not getting him after all. Depends on BB's opinion of Howard.
If Howard were a good blocker, then he'd be a fixture in the Tampa offense. I guess the question facing us is whether we believe our offensive line struggles are likely to improve more for run or pass blocking.

If Bill believes that the line can improve more at running the ball and thus make us a run oriented team, then a trade for Howard is not a good fit. If, however, Bill feels the line will have an easier time improving their pass blocking than a weapon like Howard could be invaluable.

In the end, there is little point referencing what we've done in the past with personnel. We had a great blocker like Gronk, so we emphasized blocking tight ends in the offense. If Bill thinks Howard can make our offense click, then any attempt at emphasizing the run through the tight end position can go out the window.

I don't know enough about our current line or the cap to weigh in with any sort of knowledge compared to everyone else. That being said, I just wish we had money for another offensive lineman since having more depth there would seem to help us more than upgrading any other position on the roster.

I dong get this I thought Tampa uses Howard in blocking cause he’s good at it

Everything I've read is his blocking is fine. He's not Gronk or Allen but he's decent.

Sometimes PFF is way off. For example, Mike Pennell had a very high grade. That worked out well

Howard Engram or even Eiffert makes a huge difference here.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I wonder if the Jets would consider trading Robby Anderson to us.
Or Dolphins trading us Parker?
Keenan Allen is a huge pipe dream and will likely never happen but I want fireworks today.
More importantly I want to hear the core of Van Noy Collins and High and Dev Mccourty sign long term extensions.
Next season without half of those players is a real scary thought.

If they give a first for Howard i hope they get at least a 4th and 5th back ...

I would not mind trading Burkhead. He is really nice but is not avaiable as much as i would like.

If they can get a 4th or a good player back i would do it ...

Flip Izzo or Lacosse for a conditional pick and that would be fantasctic.

....and the reason?

DB depth is more important than a good TE. Williams is one injury away from playing. We have margin for error/1 injury at CB right now. I really don't want to give that up. If we trade Jackson away and then have an injury, we are suddenly in trouble.

It’s 7:56am on trade deadline day
WTF is taking so long?

Take no chances...... MORE BEASTS please

I think/hope that we're done at wr. I want a TE or an Oline (preferably a C who doesn't suck). They are hard to find. We have to roll with a couple of 1st round picks when they get back and I'm fine with that.

You can't have starting quality players at every position. But right now TE has none and Oline is playing with several who aren't.

What time is the deadline? I already told my boss that I may not be at peak production until it's over. And even then it will be jubilation or sadness. I'm writing this day off.

Just my 2 cents .. IMO a starter is always more important than a depth piece expect maybe for a rookie QB.

But other factors have to be included (contract/number of years under control...).

I would never trade Jackson for Howard straight up.

Howard numbers and game tape don't match his hype.

JC Jackson was one of the best CB rookies last year.

If we trade JC Jackson for Howard would Willians step up? Or we are gonna have another need? Is Howard lack of production only a scheme fit or he is not that good?

our team next year will look very different than this year. It also does but I wouldn't rule out a 2010 type retool.
