That's a lot of cap relief for a guy they wanted gone anyway. Basically for zero draft return it's a good move just to have another team take on that cap space, and zero is basically what they got. Maybe they have just enough to trade for a decent TE now, maybe even a guy like Dwayne Allen who is like an extra linemen.

Michael Bennett...seemed like a good move at the time. The dude just seems like a malcontent wherever he goes, always scowling and complaining though. Obviously the guy is far from the player he was in 2014 or he wouldn't have been benched. Dallas should be extremely aware that Bill Belichick just essentially passed them the hot potato, which they presume is a good thing.

He did the same thing with Collins in 2016 to the shock of everyone. We have no idea what Bill sees on film or what's going on in the locker room. I'm sure he's making the best risk:reward calculations known to the NFL universe, however he's doing it. I wonder if that 2015 10-0 start got him thinking about players getting complacent. Yes, they did have a lot of injuries, but they still played like garbage down the stretch and may have thrown away a SB...they just looked lazy and careless towards the end of the year. I think these midseason adjustments may be nipping things in the bud. Hopefully we also see that cap space used for more pressing position (tight end, fullback, blocking).
