I was surprised that they aired the comment...but the Jets should worry about seeing the Goal Line and not so much about seeing ghosts, IMO.

Full link below.

"The Jets have gone from seeing ghosts to seeing red.

"The team is livid with the decision to air a comment from quarterback Sam Darnold during the “Monday Night Football” broadcast on ESPN that he was “seeing ghosts.”

"Jets coach Adam Gase said the team will reevaluate their cooperation with having players and coaches mic’d up moving forward.

“'I think we’ll look into that pretty hard,” Gase said. “That was one of those things that was really disappointing to hear about after the game. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that where somebody that was mic’d up was basically … a comment like that was allowed to be aired. It bothers me. It bothers the organization. We’re looking hard into our cooperation going forward.'”

He’s going to be a meme forever over it

As I just posted in another thread, allowing THIS QB to be miked up during THIS game is all on the Jets. Did they really think Darnold would play lights out and have lots of great sound bites? Gase and his brain trust were fools if they did.

To be honest, I completely understand that reaction.

If you want teams to take part of something like this, you have to filter those types of comments out. Teams need to be able to trust you.

Of course they're upset that their QB got caught saying it rather than the fact that their "franchise QB" can get rattled to the point of telling people on the sideline about it in the first half.

I've never spent any time on an NFL sideline but it's hard to believe you want a QB who says stuff like that even when he's in the midst of a terrible game. That doesn't sound like a guy who believes in himself.

Everything would have been fine if Gase had just worked his magic... instead...

They say this, but we don't know if ESPN censored worse. Such as him saying "I f-ing suck", " the Jets suck", "this fanbase is full of mongoloids", and the rumoured forced fellatio from Bell.

Those weren't ghosts, Sam. They were the boogeymen.

Yeah it's a really weird thing to say out loud to anyone.

They also had a clip of him stretching before the game on the field saying to no one in particular "Big game, division rival, Monday Night Football" very matter of factly.

Between that and the ghosts comment, it's like his words are not his own and are instead being fed to him by an extremely cliche-prone version of Cyrano.

Yes, the reaction after the fact is understandable. Stupid, but understandable. If you don't want to be exposed, then don't wear the mike.

This is all on the franchise. Networks always ask for this kind of access. Poorly run franchises don't understand the downsides and grant it.

It does make for great TV, though. And, as a Patriots fan, it's just too good. :)

Yeah, when they ran that, it sounded rehearsed, intimidated, and as if he wasn't really expecting his teammates to respond.

They are fools in any case. Gase was lost

You can't fix a problem if you don't identify it. To me that sounded like a guy who was calling himself out not an admission of fear.

It's a terrible look and you'd think the NFL would want to promote their potential stars not undermine them.

I mean, it's amazing and I loved that it happened, don't get me wrong. But it's kinda crazy that NFL Films let it happen.

How is that different than a QB being miked up where he says to the OC, "They disguised that well; I totally didn't see that."?

I mean, he WAS seeing ghosts. He was a totally fooled on coverages and such. He was being honest. Yeah it looks bad but why? We all know he's a very young and inexperienced QB facing an historically good defense. The issue is only if he doesn't learn from this moving forward. But the comment itself? Who cares?

Whoever was responsible for this airing needs a raise!

Good thing the NFL didn't air Darnold saying "I go poo poo in my pants."

What was the thing that Aaron Donald kept saying during warmups last year for about 90 seconds? Something like "Controlled aggression... Controlled aggression.... Controlled aggression...."

Unless it’s GOLD. This is totally worth it. If the Jetes never allow it to happen again, so what ? They got the sound bite of the century.
