OT question: Is Karen Guregian all that's left of the Herald's Patriots reporting group?

It appears to be the case.

Yes, and I don't think they've replaced him yet. I know it's been a bad year for them. They saw their sports editor and Jeff Howe both leave for TheAthletic, leaving essentially Karen all alone prior to the addition of Duffy. Karen does a terrific job and Duffy held his own, but it's amazing the exodus that's gone on there and they're now (again) in dire need of bringing in some additional talent there. Whether or not that happens, I guess, is another story.

Yeah...

I know that the newspaper industry is in a death spiral, and I know that they can't afford to pay the big bucks, and I know that the new owners are all about cost cutting over quality, but to not have more than one person covering the #1 sports team in town is inexcusable.

They should make a play for Volin. The guy’s amazing with the data analytics (google). Just the drama factor alone would be worth his salary.

I used to read them as part of my morning sweep but their site became a pain with the ads etc. I haven't visited for several months. Unfortunately other sites are adopting similar strategies. A lot of the best writers have gone to the pay sites so I miss Chris Price, Jeff Howe and Matt Chatham. Sorry, I'm not paying. I'm satisfied with Michael Hurley, Doug Kyed and Ryan Hannable.

He's better suited for the Boston Phoenix

Yegads!!!!

I just couldn't take the ridiculousness of the Herald anymore. I stopped visiting the site a while ago. The Herald was always right leaning and a bit tabloidy, but it has become the Fox News of newspapers. In MA, that is a pretty niche group, dying off by the day.

First we lose the TB12 Times and now the Herald is circling the drain. It’s tough out there.

That was a source of frustration there because that lasted over a year with no resolution...it was pretty terrible. Then after Jeff and Sean Leahy left, they finally changed it but went to a paywall, and then the paywall seems to have dropped off but I think they force a login now...it's pretty brutal. I understand the need, but the execution was/is just really bad.

The fact Duffy left (and is exiting the journalism field) is a big red flag - I don't believe they let him go. So it certainly makes you wonder about the future there...not a good sign.

As opposed to when Parker's, Kellerman's, Rollo Tomase's and Trollin Volin's come, theirs will be glorious

On a completely unrelated note:

Does anyone know who's going to be handling Patriots coverage for Masslive?

Nick O'Malley appears the one doing most of it, from what I've seen.
