Until and unless I read that he's suited up and taking reps in practice, I have been, and will continue, taking everything from Gronk with a big grain of trollling/PR salt

BINGO!

If we see Gronk working out over the next few months, we'll know he's attempting a comeback...if not, he's just trolling

Yes, that is stated in the included article. I should have mentioned that in the post.
No, it does not. In all the examples cited, the player was attempting to sign with a team that didn’t already hold his rights. The original team then needed to releases those rights before he could sign with the new team. That subjected the player to waivers.

That wouldn’t happen in this case; the Pats already own Gronk’s rights. If Gronk wants to play for someone else, the Pats would need to release him (if they don’t trade his rights), and in that scenario Gronk would be subject to waivers.

He has updated his Twitter profile to state ‘New England Patriots Tight End.’ Lots of talk of him coming back.
Have you looked at him? He's about half the weight he played at last year.

He's reportedly lost 20 pounds.

Maybe. But he probably has less mass mass which to block.

He admitted on Pardon My Take he was doing it to mess with people.

That's what I thought I remembered happening with Beastmode.

A quick search confirms that Oakland had to provide compensation to Seattle:
