Steelers @ Pats all-22 thread

It’s very interesting that the Patriots opened the game in 2-4-5 Nickel. Not that I’m surprised that they made use of only two down linemen (Bennett and Guy, both playing 3-tech) because, again, their roster dictates it’s use. They’re deep at LB and thin at DT. What surprises me is that they went that route even without KVN. Since Simon played roughly 45% of the snaps, it shows confidence in him.
See the question to me here is did the Patriots start in this formation because their roster dictates it, or because they thought it was the best way to contain the Steelers.

It is not yet available they usually start showing up Wednesday-ish. Unless something changed for this year.

But if you are interested it should be available through NFL Gamepass. Not for free obviously.
It is free for season ticket holders. I got a code to get it and red zone for free this year.

Both. But primarily the former, because I think that we will see that throughout the season.

Although I wouldn't use the word "dictates it" which implies a limitation. The roster could support other alignments if that's what they wanted to play. The roster was probably built with this in mind, however.

Continuing on with a tradition begun last year by @luuked and others. As always, please keep this thread confined to X and O's. Reserve hot takes for the post-game thread.

This thread alone makes this site worthwhile. As always, thanks @PP2 and others that provide the football insight.

They have a limitation at DT and a surplus at LB and DB. That’s the optimal personnel for them.

Omw home so I'll try to post more.
I mentioned this in the thread the Steeler fan started. Pitt had a lot of trouble last year w teams manipulating coverage to get an easy play against an LB. Esp when teams put their WR1/2 in the slot (KC, SD)

ReWatched last night, A22 at work today.
Gordon is noticeably faster. Just moving easier. I still can't believe we added Browns crazy game speed & rr this is offense. I mean the guy is going the HOF someday. I'm still shook.

I wasn't Whites biggest fan coming out but the guy has improved every year & become such a well rounded player. He had 2 runs on that 1st TD that I really liked. Nothing special but he showed a lil patience & vision. Just stuck out from years past but he's been that guy for a minute now.

J Jones was a binky coming out, one of my last (try to not have "fav's") but hes another one that really has grown. Pats DBs are some of the more disciplined in the league, esp when it comes to reading eyes & knifing through their opponents chest to break up a pass. Made a great play that showed off both.

Our OL is so athletic its not funny. The way they move is insane compared to league OL'm in years past. So quick, no lumbering.

I think every LB made a "wow" type play. HT/Collins both made explosive plays for a TFL. Chung had a few plays like that as well.

I'm not sure how teams defend us w Brown. We wont see real examples for a few weeks but I expect Brady to be tearing up the MOF. We loved having Cooks attack it on p/a from 11 & will be using Gordon/Brown in the same way to attack that area. I expect to see more crossers, deep post etc. Again teams are in for it. When we get rolling there will no stopping this offense.

Shelton!! Credit due. He's not the game changer he was drafted to be but finally looks to have a well defined role he can succeed at. Big man has played w impressive leverage & power last few games.

Baldy's breakdowns:

The hitch aspect here is one of those details that just gets lost everywhere else. Amazing stuff.

This will probably get lost in the shuffle, but here goes:

Not a TE quality Block, but this appears imo to be evidence of them using the BIG WRs in place of TE (Gronk).
