OT Gronk shares disturbing detail about "liquid in his head"

Eh...until yesterday I thought he was coming back, not this year as I am stating since his retirement, it wouldn't make sense for him to come back at the end of this season, he needed one full season off (that would result in 18 months out of football) either from a health standpoint and also financially, I think he could sign a 2 year - 20/22 Mi contract next season, he would make more than he was doing and with his body fully recovered.

Now, I'm revisiting this idea, I thought yesterday he was exaggerating a bit saying he couldn't sleep for weeks after the SB etc due to that tight injury. I'm not saying it wasn't a tough one, at the time he took that hit I knew that was a bad one, it just didn't hit right and he was in full speed. But no one can stay weeks sleeping only a few minutes every night. Now brain is another story.

Also, this campaign, he's probably making millions, pharmaceutic industry is a billionaire industry, he is the right "player" in the right spot to drive this campaign, he's certainly aware of that and capitalizing on it.

Good news for his return by week 10. Without the extra cranial water weight he'll be even that much faster running down the seam.

I don’t see him returning.

Stay retired, big fella. He has achieved a lot, ended his career on the best note possible. Football has little left to gain for him and a lot to lose.

Not to say he was seriously thinking about it.

Reading that, and knowing his other injuries, he needs to be Baker Acted if he even thinks about coming back.

Good grief, this **** is scary.

I saw the Le'Ron McClain story the other day which was really hard to read.

I love the game of football but the rate at which these seemingly severe (and, in far too many cases, fatal) brain injuries are occurring is upsetting, and has to be deemed unacceptable at some point.

Why?

In all honesty it's crazy they're still playing this game. They made it worst putting players on a fast track like Turf to run and hit each other at full force.

Same reason they restricted factory discharges into public drinking water?

It will be unacceptable for a few individuals to suffer some injuries because it might poison the general public?

You act like these aren’t grown men who know the risks of playing football.

Because nothing in life is worth doing if it involves risk. No matter what the benefits are.
The best things in life involve risk. You take risks whenever you have unprotected sex or make an investment that could have huge yields.

The risks were essentially hidden from players by the NFL. And it’s not just professionals; it’s high school and collegiate amateurs.

Until very recently (as in the past 10 years or so) there was not public awareness that CTE was associated with football.

So, yeah, folks knew the risks of football insofar as blown ACLs, sore joints, arthritis, etc. They didn’t know their brains could degenerate and that they’d be dead at an extremely young age.

There are varying degrees of risk.

Losing money, getting an STD, and so forth, are extremely different than CTE.

I don’t think people internalize just how awful CTE is; it’s a death sentence. It robs you of your quality of life and it seems most end up committing suicide at far too young of an age.

To be extremely clear: if folks want bad knees, sore joints, walking with a cane at 45, numbness every morning, and so forth, I’m okay with that risk/outcome.

I (as a viewer) am uncomfortable with degenerative brain disease that is robbing lives. And yet I continue to watch, because I love the game (and our Pats) too much.

I've never understood why NFL players, especially DBs, launch at players helmet first rather than learning proper tackling technique ala rugby and AFL. Sure, some lowering of the helmet is inevitable but launching yourself at full speed is just dumb. Perhaps it's because I'm from Australia and have grown up around Australian rules that my perspective differs.

My son played D1 (he was a freshman) ball last year and I’m happy he decided to stop playing and transferred elsewhere. Glad I don’t have to worry about football related injuries anymore
