Andrew Luck Retires from NFL

Payback by them picking first again next year?
They got supremely “lucky” with Luck last time, as he was a franchise-quality and pro bowl worthy QB. They might be wallowing in mediocrity for a few decades this time around though, as picking at the top of the draft every year doesn’t guarantee anything. Ask the Browns, Jets, or the other perennial dumpster fires of the NFL.

pathetic.

I agree, it’s pathetic fans booed him for retiring because he put his health first.

He recently got married and is going to be a father soon.

7 years and many of those years left injured because of piss poor management.

I dislike the Colts, but always been a fan of Luck because the way he conducted himself on and off the field.

I hope some of those fans wake up tomorrow with a clear conscience and admit they were wrong to boo a guy that did everything he could for that franchise.

This also speaks volumes about our team, how it’s ran, how Brady manages to stay healthy on and off season “knock on wood”

Anytime a good player retires from the league it sucks, because they can be exciting.

The next question would be if the Colts try to tank for Tua or wait an additional year for Trevor.

I hate the Colts, for Deflategate primarily, but always found Luck hard to dislike. He’s always seemed like just a goofy good natured guy. Hope it’s all for the best with his quality of life, but screw the Colts.

Pro ball players make an incredibly tough job look easy.
Yet when they get hurt, they get really hurt.

We need a surprise emoji!

Count me into the group that liked Luck as a player. Always played hard, seldomly complained. Very strong arm and could drop passes into a bucket. The problem he had from my perspective is that he suffered a bit from the Brett-Favre-syndrome. Because he had this strong arm he was probably a bit too willing to try risky passes, which came back to bite him in the playoffs.

The NFL is losing a very good player. But I can understand his decision considering how beat up he was the last few years and after getting married and so there comes a point in time when people start to wonder if this is all worth it.

Can someone ELI5 the booing? They booed Luck today after he announced his retirement?

Seriously?

Yeah, Schefter's tweet came out during the game, so fans in the stands got word of it as the game was going on and Luck was standing in street clothes on the sidelines. I guess this made some Colts fans mad, thinking Luck had quit on them or had screwed the team over by retiring now, so when he goes to leave the field this happens:

The Colts drafted enough OLine players. If they couldn't protect the QB it's likely because of poor coaching, or else the QB holds the ball too long, or else the QB may be brittle.

Yeah, the problem wasn't that the Colts didn't invest draft picks in their offensive line. The problem was that the offensive linemen they drafted weren't very good. That seems to have turned around a bit in the last couple years with Kelly being good and Nelson being a monster, but the Grigson years damage was already done.

The team (as is typical for them) didn't organize it well to support the player is my feeling. Just watching the video (without sound) gives me the impression the three team-shirt guys are 'escorting a fired employee off the premises'.

I haven't seen a video of how it was said to the fans, but if Irsay/Polian had stood up and said 'he gave all he had for the team and we want to express our gratitude with our applause' and send him off with best wishes. . .

It would have come off different, even w their schmuck fans.

Fans applaud even opposing players when they get carted off and their season is over. This isn't any different, just it wasn't IMMEDIATELY AFTER the injury-hit and he walked off under his own power.

So the jackazzs in their front orifice not only made the team look like inept jerks, they just put a stain on the fans and city too. And their delusions of Luck coming back are surely just that -delusions, after how they (didn't ) organized his farewell.

The mistake he made was generalizing all of us with Indy fans. They're a unique kind of trashy. Pretty sure Jerod Mayo didn't hear a single boo when he retired.
**** Colts fans. My ex-gf got spit on in a restaurant’s bar the night before the AFCCG in 2006 just for wearing Pats gear. This was a pretty upscale place too. So upscale that the mayor’s entourage and/or security detail stepped in to break things up and forcibly removed the main culprit.

Check out @NFL_DovKleiman’s Tweet:

You can tell Irsay's been through a lot of rehab and soul searching therapy.

Sounded like something was up with the whole 1+1 doesn't equal 2 reaction they had. Interesting. Good luck (npi) to Jacoby.

He seemed like a decent guy in those Geico commercials.

Good for Luck. Whats the point of continuing something that you don't need to do and that does give you pain instead of joy.

Good for him. He's got money and a family and can put this behind him. Good for Jacoby to get a shot, and good for Irsay to get what he deserves.

All 3 (gm, owner, coach) acted surprised, but they already knew for at least 10 days, probably way longer. Seemed rehearsed, them acting like "when was it, last Monday, 10 days ago?" Then coach lets out, he didn't tell Jacoby because it was supposed to be a secret. Irsay talking about dark shadows in the hallways. WTF. "But he played in the Pro Bowl!" Yet they knew about this calf/high ankle thing last year.

There is more to this story. I wonder if new wifey just said, we've got enough dough **** the Colts.

:D:D Was it the Colts fans or did Irsay pump in Boos over the stadium loud speakers?
