The issue is they have 3 QB, 6 RB/FB 6 WR (not counting Slater or Berrios), 2 TE and 8 OL. That is 25 players on offense and most of them don't play STs.

The only true STs on that list are Bolden. Are all of your STers going to come from defense? That's where the issue is. I don't see how you keep Dorsett unless you drop another body or decide to cut DT.

Who would normally be ST from the offense that we suddenly wouldn't have this year? In other words, if you went with your numbers, but did 5 WR instead of 6, who would be the ST offensive player who would replace him. Also, I don't really see the need to keep Burkhead now that we have Harris and Bolden back in the mix, so I'd save a spot there.

You either carry another guy on D who can play STs or carry Berrios. Personally I think they are better off carrying another guy on D. As for keeping Dorsett over Burkhead that is a possibility. As I said they would need to free up a spot on offense to keep Dorsett. Burkhead's contract situation is interesting.

not even close to it.
You're not giving Jules enough credit.

Jules and a first Rd pick is pretty close. Throw in Gordon and it's right there.

You don't even need to consider DT to like the group.

If you thought about how the value of a WR is measured, you would probably rethink that statement.

No I think the reason for the talk is his LACK of playing time in the playoffs/
The AFCCG he didn’t play much due to the game plan for covering Hill with Jon Jones and Crossen responsible for following Hill everywhere he went.
He played a couple snaps less than his average snap count in the second half of the season in the Super Bowl. He helped breakup a potential TD pass to Cooks then pressured Goff into throwing the pick to Gilmore. They did have Jon Jones playing the role that Harmon usually plays but DH still saw some action.
That being said I wouldn’t be shocked if Harmon was cut but still somewhat surprised. If Obi was playing well I’d think there’s a much large chance but if I had to guess right now I’d say Harmon easily makes it over Obi if they’re fighting for the same spot.

Dorsett wishes he was as good as either.

Fascinating take. Let's go to the tape, shall we? Dorsett in the 2018 season was 25 years old, so let's compare the players at that stage:

Dorsett: 32 catches on 42 targets, for 290 yards
Patten: 9 catchs on 28 targets, for 115 yards
Givens: 59 catches on 96 targets, for 726 yards

So, he's well ahead of Patten, and comfortably behind Givens, at the same ages.

That's a fascinating way you twisted that. They were each in the league for a few years before getting here and in Pattens first year here he more than doubled what Dorsett has done in 2 years.
I like Dorsett and I'm a firm believer in players needing different lengths to develop (See Jules see Troy). But up to this point in Dorsetts career he's still wishing he can be as good as Patten. Maybe he has good reason to think he can and if you look at his numbers the way you did then you can be optimistic he will be equal or better that's fine.

Not yet, but they certainly appear to be the deepest
Aside from Julian Edelman you have Dorsett who caught 44 passes for the Patriots, Gordon who averages 5 games a year since entering the league, an aging receiver coming off a late December torn Achilles, and then a bunch of guys who have caught zero or next to zero passes in the league. I would say maybe in the upper part of the league as far as receiver potential but I don’t consider that depth.

Someone honestly thinks Dorsett is as good as Patten?

why would a 1st round pick be better than a 7th round pick without having played any games?

Right now they have 2 good receivers, 2 rookies and 1 question mark. This isn't close to having the best WR room in football. It's however not among the worst anymore as it was pre Gordon and pre draft.

I didn't twist anything. I literally did nothing more than look at the 3 players' seasons at the same age, and post the info. And I actually did find your post to be a fascinating one, before I'd even looked at the data for the other 2. I didn't even remember how old Givens was when he left N.E., for example, so the question brought out my inquisitive nature.

Who cares how old they were when they did it? Patten and Givens careers are done. Dorsett is still hoping to put up numbers like they did. You might have good reason to think he will but he hasn't yet and I will be thrilled when/if he does. I like him and I agree he got a little burried by Gordon last year but don't pretend cherry picking a small part of Givens or Pattens career is not a twist.

WR trios considered the best in football:

  • Minnesota - Thielen, Diggs, Beebe
  • Houston - Hopkins, Fuller, Coutee
  • Atlanta - Jones, Ridley, Sanu
  • Los Angeles Rams - Cooks, Woods, Kupp
  • Cleveland - Beckham Jr, Landry, Higgins
The Pats group is probably right there after the top trios. Their tough to rate as their floor is relatively low & their ceiling is with the best of them. I'd also argue the pats WR 4/5 are more intriguing than most teams in Harry/Meyers.
