Tannenbaum Posits Hoyer as a Solution for Eagles.

Kind of funny, seems like Hoyer has gone from the trash thrown in with the Jimmy G trade, to a vital cog in the organization.

Stidham is not ready to take over if Brady gets hurt

???

Hoyer easily can keep the ship afloat if Brady misses 3/4 games. Stidham can't (yet).

Not every injury is a season ender but paying games with the backup QB over roster spot 53 can make it so.

Neither backup would be a long term solution.

As for short term, they got two games out of Brissett.

It's up to BB to determine if Stidham is as good as Jacoby, but if he is and the Eagles want to overpay, we could use a 3-4th rounder and the roster spot.

I don’t think he was ever a trash thrown in. We needed an experienced backup that we know can play in our system.

These guys are Irony Concentrate at the QB position... the career backup guy Ben I mean Nick Foles plays this amazing once-in-a-lifetime game... the stud he's supposed to be backing up can't stay on the field... now they're complaining they don't have good enough backup QBs...

How long until they can cut bait on Wentz? PS, to add to the irony, Wentz = what he shoulda had to do by now, is went. "Carson" is becoming synonymous for "believe it when you see it." Remember thinking Carson Palmer was about to take the league by storm?

It's true that Hoyer's a proven mediocre but field-able backup QB... if Brady gets hurt, I am okay with a down year, but that could be with either of the above. I know it's a little heretical to think "consider the season a crapshoot," given what happened w/Cassel. I actually think Stidham will be another Cassel if called upon, b/c I dont think Cassel is an 11-win QB. I think they managed the QB to manage the game, and Stidham has that level of upside (after perhaps a rocky start) in S1 of his career.

Hoyer's ready out of the box, I know... but unless he's our very own Foles story, he just isn't going to get much better. We might not have spots for both of them in a month for all we know.

Meh. Last thing I want to do sat. morning is solve what ails the iggles.

Will never understand their compulsion to trade Foles....I get he is expensive but wentz can't last a season. Mistake will help us somehow this season.
He was not technically traded but was a FA.. He had a poison pill in his contract that would have forced them to pay him $20 million as a backup and he wanted to start which wasn't going to happen in Philly. They released him and he signed a 4 yr deal w JAX.

neither is Hoyer.

so you’re telling me Hoyer can’t win us a couple games if Brady is out? I suppose Bill doesn’t know what he’s doing by keeping him as backup

No, I'm telling you Stidham can do what Hoyer can do.

2024. They signed him to a $128 million 4 yr extension...
Eagles, Carson Wentz agree to four-year extension

TU Philly, wow. I'm starting to read extension dates that remind me of the sci fi of my youth. Actually, in the 80s there were all these time travel films to the 2015 range, so what can I say, the future ain't what it used to be.

Michael J Fox should have come back from the future in Patriots gear saying "throw out Biff's almanac, the Patriots win everything"

stidham doesn’t know the playbook whereas Hoyer does. If Stidham has to start like Brissett did as a rookie, Josh will not open the playbook for him like he would Brian Hoyer. Hoyer is ready to fill in for 3-4 games whereas Stidham has to sit at this point.

Hoyer looked sharp against DET. I think he's feeling the heat. No ESPN job waiting for him like the Sancheese.

Everyone knows BB wants to show the league he can do it with someone other than Brady, who is on a one year deal and who just put his mansion onto the market. Makes me think Stidham will get every benefit of the doubt.

So, forget draft picks, does Philly have an actual NFL ready player or hot prospect we could get for Hoyer? It looks to be a seller's market.

he doesn't have to. Stidham would be more than fine. He has a lot more natural talent than Hoyer.

This is true. They would need to devise a tight game plan.

In the end with either, the Pats would be looking towards a defensive, field position, ball control game plan.

The fact that Hoyer could run a more complete offense would be negated if Stidham is a real future NFL starting QB.

BB will need to decide if the incremental difference between Hoyer and Stidham is big enough to cut one additional player. Do we lose a Rivers, Roberts or Dorsett to keep Hoyer? He took the risk with Mallet over Hoyer years ago so I would not conclude that his job is safe just yet. Brady is older now so the calculation is different. Stidham's play the next month could very well determine what happens to Hoyer.
