How to get friends/relatives into Patriots

If theyre meant to be pats fans theyll be pats fans. My brother in law didn't follow a lick of football until he met me. Obv my man love for Tom Brady is well known to everyone close to me so he slowly started following the team without me even trying to get him involved really. now he is a big fan - i'll send him video clips of locker room celebrations and other cool patriots stuff that mostly only us hardcore fans see and he'll be like yeah i already saw that lol

So someone who was completely non biased as far as loving / hating the patriots can easily become a patriots fan with very little influence, because really Brady especially is a likable guy when you don't have any previous sourness over his success. People know they are watching greatness and appreciate him. At the same time though I can picture people going the other way like if you're the type that pulls for the underdog it might be hard to pull for NE. The irony of that all being that Tom Brady and the Pats are the original underdog, but somebody beginning to follow at this point could probably find it hard to identify with that.

Does she play chess?

She plays dominoes, which is big down there. Probably likes to play it because she beats me every time. I can't be bothered to master the strategy of dominoes, so... probably a reverse lesson in there somewhere.

Too bad. I was going to suggest pointing out that futbol is like checkers and football is like chess.

The bandwagon is full.

Thanks, man!

I've always wondered how the hell all these unfortunate people accepted the flying elvis.

I shoulda known.
I actually feel sorry for you that you can't fully enjoy the greatest winning run in the history of professional sports because of a change in uniform colors/logo. As the late Ross Perot would've said, "That's just sad."

To quote a famous movie, "If you build it, they will come." Throw some awesome tailgate/game watching parties and everyone will become hooked. I became a fan as a kid because my Dad always had the games on. My siblings and I are all sports fanatics, as are almost all of our kids. Two of my boys are more Bruins fans than Patriots fans, but the other two of my kids are as bad as me. My 16 year old daughter now goes to virtually every home Patriots game with me. She replaced one of my sons when he went off to college, who replaced my husband who can't stand the all day commitment to a game any more and would rather watch on the big screen TV at home. He is from NY and was originally a Giants fan. Me and Bill Parcells got him to jump ship!

Deb, it seems your husband has aged prematurely. o_O

Just battle it out with them.

If you have to convince people to be fans then what is the point?

Shotgun weddings dont last.

Yup. You can only convince someone who wants to be convinced...who likes the game but isn't married to a team. If they aren't interested in football, fahgeddaboudit.

My daughter lived in Fla. for a short time. She would host Super Bowl parties, and, much to her chagrin, none of her new Floridian friends knew anything about football. She says to me "these people suck. They talk thru the game! They don't know anything about football. I can't wait to come home and watch football with Dad and his buddies."

She's home now, sort of, has her own place. I look forward to having her around for games.

I don't think there's any converting people. You are what you are. I mean, if you've suffered as a Jete fan... how smart can you be? If you're a new football fan, why would you choose the Jetes or the Bungles or Lions?

Lots of Pats fans did not "fully enjoy" our runs in the 70's & 80's due to Sullivan. I didn't care any more about that than the Celtics' owner-du-jour...

Full disclosure: I always hated those red pants. Yuck.

Nothing can ever diminish what we've enjoyed this century.

I guess Braves fans still had fun winning the division in '82... despite wearing those silly pajamas.

She would see that as an attempt at entrapment.

Meanwhile, the brutal beatdown continues... any tips at a winning strategy for dominoes would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, everyone! Recently, I have been wanting to get some friends into Patriots football but don't want to come off as overbearing or annoying in advertising them to them.

What's your strategy with friends or maybe even your own kids. Do you showoff highlights, invite them to games or ramble for hours about them? Eventually I will also want a son or daughter of my own on that note so I ask a second question for mothers/fathers of Pats Fans.

Do your kids like Patriots football? If so, how did you get them into it?

If they already don't like the Pats question their friend worthiness would be my advice.
