Pats sign Dontrelle Inman

This happens every year. People act like signing players is a secret development with other players.
It’s not. We are creating competition and depth. Hell we just cut Ellington so roster wise it a net no change.

At this point other than Edelman no one is assured of a spot whether due to health, age, production, ability etc.

There is nothing lost in singing this guy and having him not make the team.
Harry is as sure a bet to make the roster as any offensive skill player on the roster.

Everybody is sleeping on Maurice Harris...

I have Harris, Dorsett and Inman all competing for a roster spot. I suspect that the competition is wide open.

More than one could make the roster, depending on the status of Gordon and DT. I would note that I don't see us carrying 5 WR's, given that we will have our choice of many for the PS.
======
BOTTOM LINE
I don't see this as a huge issue for the team. I expect that DT will be ready to play alongside Edelman and Harry. #4 and #5 WR's get almost no reps for the patriots.

Dorsett will get the opportunity to beat out Inman, but younger probably correct.
Also, I don't use carrying 5 WR's on the 53, if Gordon starts the season on the suspended list.
=======
Finally, I actually like this group of receivers.

The offense is really coming together now that we have added our OT, TE and WR, good choices all.

I wouldn’t consider the guy who struggled to get on the field last year to be a lock at a position that is much deeper this year.
If everything goes the best for each player Dorset is a goner.
Edelman
Gordon
Thomas
Harry
Inman

Would all be ahead of him.

This guy has done well enough here and there that I've taken a flyer on him on the fantasy football waiver wire. If that's not a good sign, I don't know what is ;)

Like what Bill is up to w/all these big WRs.

Side note: I like Dorsett, and I anecdotally feel like Tom Brady trusts him. That means a lot if my perception is actually true.

The only problem is that they're setting themselves up to be in the same position next year. The only WRs—other than the UDFAs—signed beyond this year are Harry and Berrios.
Tragic news...WTF?

Honestly odd man out in so many ways is Dorsett the invisible man....unless Gordon can’t come back this year.....Dorsett is really quite expendable imho

Something's gotta give.

This makes me wonder if BB got some suspension news about Gordon, or a health update on Thomas, or if he's just trying to let it all play out.[/QUOTE]

Very OT, but the only thing I know about M. Harris is he did great in his role in Coach Carter. I know it was a different hairdo but still...

Dorsett was displaced by Josh Gordon. Many here seem to equate that to being displaced by Reche Caldwell, for some reason.

This just reinforces what so many players (and fans) know: you want to show the league you got it in order get a new higher dollar multi? Come to the Patriots. If you can make it here you've been given the loftiest NFL seal of approval.

For those wondering about the logjam at WR? True but opposite of terrible. To have a number of good receivers having to compete for the mid-lowers parts of the 6 WR spots, and BB/Staff being able to take the best 6? An enviable position for a coaching staff, no? :)

Gordon is currently not a factor. If and when he is, great. Until then Dorsett, Dontrelle and anyone else can rest assured that on the Patriots chances are very very good that if you show them production they will find a way to get you out there to produce.

Much like trying to compete for the affections of a lady: never worry about what the other guy may be able to do, just worry about making your own best case :)

Wide receiver competition should be fierce in camp if everybody is healthy and stays healthy.

We are one big run stuffing DT away from having a great roster for 2019.

We are witnessing the evolution of BB, from the belief that he could just coach up D-Backs (Tiquan and "Two way Troy) to really solid CB's, from a star RB to RB by committee, from smaller "smurf" WR's to bigger, stronger WR's...

The game and philosophy of BB is changing on the fly and before our eyes.. more three D chess among the checkers players,,

I like the Inman signing, more camp competition and better choices...

Little surprised Patriots haven’t signed Lombardi’s binkie Terrelle Pryor.

I mean at this point it is more likely that Berrios or any of the UDFA will be on the 53 in September than Gordon. And who knows what we get with DT.

Only really need someone for 400 snaps.

I think Bill is waiting for the Summer Clearance sales
