The Raiders signed a tight end they drafted in the fourth round last weekend on Thursday and they also said goodbye to one of their veterans at the position.

According to multiple reports, the team has released Lee Smith.

Raiders release Lee Smith

roster full again . for today..;)

I wanted us to draft him a while back, so I'm pretty pleased about this. I didn't think he'd be a top shelf player, but I did suspect he could offer some solid snaps on the edge. Good competition with Rivers and Davis. Lots of binkies all fighting it out!

Shilique Calhoun.
Highly rated in the 2016 draft. Selected in the third round by the Raiders.
6-4.3 251. 4.82 40.
No production with the Raiders. Three years; no starts; 29 tackles over those three years. 0.5 total career sacks.

I don't share the same concern. I don't think anyone is counting on contributions from later round 2018 draft picks who were put on IR for the full 2018 season. That was the definition.

So I don't think anyone is counting on Berrios, Sam and Izzo to do anything.

Counting on them? No.

I think Sam has a chance, as he was a pretty good prospect coming out of college.
I think Izzo has a chance, as he's a good blocker in a weak position (right now).
Berrios has quick slot guy written all over him. Doubt he makes the Pats, but he might be a PS guy again. And if Gordon and Thomas aren't gtg at the start, he has a chance

Released twice I think and went unclaimed.

He had quad surgery at the end of March and will be out 3 months, April, May and June. Then he has to build up his strength, learn the Pats playbook, etc., so I am guessing he will behind the others. Maybe IR to return or off the game day roster for awhile.

I think you are being a little pessimistic. When I read "three months to fully cleared" I read that as three months for full contact. It is not like he was doing his pre draft visits in an air cast. He will attend mini camp, and my guess is that he will do walk-throughs. Training camp starts 120 days or 30 days after "he is fully cleared". I don't see how the playbook or even physical things like hand placement and upper body weight bench work.

Now if "three months to fully cleared" means being able to run, then your estimate is more correct.

I am not a doctor. A quick Internet search:

Your surgeon will remove sutures or staples about two weeks after surgery. Complete recovery takes at least 4 months, but most repairs are almost completely healed within 6 months. It may take even longer to completely achieve strength training and range of motion goals.

All I am going on is his doctors who performed the surgery saying 3 months to fully cleared. Was it a partial tear? Does it make a difference? Even 4 months is still before camp starts.
I just thought it was pessimistic to think that in Sept this would cause him not to be on an active roster, with the doctor saying 3 months to fully cleared.

Collins still not signed. If he's vet min..maybe it could happen. He might need to be a good solider to salvage his value.

Is Shilique a LB or ST signing ?

Thanks. Rapsheet reported he will be fully clearly by end of June. Should be good to go for training camp.

Yeah, but as we are questioning what does fully cleared entail? Fully cleared to begin running or fully cleared for squats? If he can do squats by the 4th, he should be able to not miss any camp. If all he can do is start running by the 4th, he may miss most of camp.

My guess fully cleared to do everything. But we will probably get some new information soon.

Collins started 16 games, had 100 tackles and 4 sacks. I think he has a promise from a team that does not want to lose or lessen a draft comp pick. To think he is going to sign for 1mill or so is not in line with his value. I expect him to get one year and 4-6 mill.
