Here's how the Pats started day 2:

First, they traded up with the Rams, giving up 56 and 101:

Then they traded down from 64 with Seattle, picking up 77 and 118:

Next, they made another trade with the Bears, picking up a 2020 pick:

I followed this in my head but it is really great to see this on paper. Superb job CtPats!

I know the picks have skewed values and you can create a simple algorithm for that, but using simple addition, where a higher number is worth less, they traded 495 for 460 plus Chicago's 4th in 2020. From a Pats perspective, I think it looks even better if you assign different values for each different pick.

according to the classic Jimmy Johnson trade valuation model, they above trades come up dead even. I would have thought the Pats got the better valuation.
trades spots given up =956
received = 907 plus 4th next year. A mid 4th is 50 pts = 957

Ok, but “most teams” and “a” standard valuation. I’d wager the Pats have their own with additional variables.

yes according to the trade value chart it's even but we gained 2 additional premium picks with 1 more this year and 1 next year. And we still drafted a 2nd round talent in Winovich while trading back.

I'd guess that there's a standard, but that each teams actual chart varies a little bit. Then you have to add in the variable of how each draft, spot/round in the draft, and player(s) rate for both parties and you get an added level of valuation.

Looking ahead to next year I think the Pats have 13 picks (assuming 4 compensatory picks) or as 'few' as 11.
round 1 - 1 pick own
round 2- 1 pick own
round 3 - 3 picks own and assuming 2 comp picks
round 4 - 2 picks, own and Bears
round 5 - no selections YET ( traded for Micheal Bennett)
round 6 - from 1 to 3 picks if the Pats net 2 more compensatory picks.
round 7- 3 picks, own, from Eagles in Bennett trade and from Falcons in Jordan Richards trade. I read that requirements were met.
