2018-19 Stanley Cup - Bruins vs Blues

How bout them Bruins!!! Great win last night in OT to set the tone for the series. They played really well except for a 30 second stretch in the 3rd. Came out smokin' even though the Blue Jackets' goalie was great and blocked all kinds of great shots. Home-grown Charlie Coyle more than made up for his brain-fart give away that led to the BJ's first goal.

One thing I am having a hard time stomaching is Doc Emrick's openly cheering for the BJs to win. I always feel like he is cheering for the other team, but my kids tell me I am too much of a homer. Give me fellow homers Jack and Brick any day of the week!

Let's get the next one on Saturday!

Any games on NESN, Or are they all national now? I like Jack too probably not the main consensus on the board.

Not sure, but it seems like national now. There were a few games in the last round that were on both NESN and NBCSN. I would much rather listen to Jack Edwards' bombastic buffoonery (which I find entertaining) than Emrick wax poetic on the other team. A few things that steamed me last night in no particular order:

Him going on and on about how a guy on the other team (I am not good with names I'm not familiar with, sorry) is a face-off specialist and is brought in for those moments in the game when they have to win it, which he always does, blah blah blah. Meanwhile, going on in front of him in the game AT THE MOMENT he is saying all this is a face-off between the BJ "face off specialist" and Patrice Bergeron (another face-off specialist, in my book), which is won easily by Bergeron, and Emrick doesn't even bother to mention Bergeron, or the fact that what he just said has been totally discredited by what is going on in front of him.

When BJ (or any team playing the Bruins for that matter) scores, "SCOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRREEEEE!!!!" When Charlie Coyle scored his game tying goal with about 3.40 left in the 3rd (a HUGE moment in the game), in a subdued voice, "The Bruins MAY have scored a goal here..." (Coyle hit it in so hard it bounced off the back of the net and back out).

Choosing the LOSING goalie as one of his three stars of the game, while saying NOTHING about Tuukka Rask or his performance.

"The Bruins have no shots on net," or "just one shot on net during this power play..." when they've had at least 5.

Just going on, and on, and on from the middle of the 2nd period forward about how the BJs have woken up and are outplaying the Bruins. Meanwhile, for most of that time they had no goals, or the game was tied.

ARRGGGHHH! Looks like it's sound down for me on Saturday.

I always remember Emrick telling the story as the Bruins were about to win the Cup in 2011 about the “leather-lunged Bruins fan” yelling at the end of game 6 - “We didn’t lose to the British, and we’re not about to lose to British Columbia”.

Jack is too far over the top for my taste but that doesn't mean I like Emrick by any means.
That said, in the interest of being fair Bobrovsky was easily one of the best players on the ice last night. It was nothing short of amazing for CBJ to come out of that 1st period down any less than 3 goals

Yes, if that was the only thing he did I would be okay with it, but it was just the icing on the cake after a whole game of listening to his ridiculous failure-to-give-credit to the Bruins schtick.

I think Emerick is from Maine and grew up a Bruins fan, maybe hes trying to hard not to show it.

I always liked Gary Thornton. Thought he did a decent job as a national guy.

I'm not going to bash Jack. Hes an over the top homer New Hampshire boy like me.

Agreed completely with both points.

1. Jack Edwards is a clown....a yahoo of the highest order. One of the pluses of moving South was I lost NESN, so I rely solely on streams via reddit....I never choose the "NESN Stream" offering simply because of him.

2. I was texting my BiL in RI updates during the first period (he had some work function). The "first period recap text" before I headed out for Bowling with some buddies was "This game could easily be 4 or 5 nothing if weren't for Bobrovsky".

He single handedly kept CBJ from getting run out of the barn last night in the first.

All good with me, I just want to make sure we give him a fair trial followed by a first rate hanging

I think Jack is hysterical. He's so over the top you can't help but laugh, and I think he and Brick give credit where credit is due to the other team when it's warranted, despite their unabashed homerism. They are my kind of announcers

Exactly. Thats what NESN wants and that is what their viewership want.

I mean..how can anyone not love this?

Unlike some local play by play robots he legitimately gives a crap about this team.

Exactly!! How can you not love that?!

How about this one? LOL!!

I can't stand Hawk Harrelson for the same exact reasons.

But to each their own. Give me Bob Miller for a local PbP guy or Cuthbert for a "national" guy.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed over the top Jack and more laid back Brick are the inverse of the bolted down Socci and "Show Ponies" Zo

they are all national now. I think the national broadcast for hockey is by far the best of the four major sports. baseball isn't bad either except for ESPN. ESPN absolutely sucks.

I love Zo too for the same reasons. When I'm watching my team I want someone who roots for them like me. The most dignified certified homer was Gil Santos. I loved him and Geno and how on Mondays, Gil would do the sports report straight up, but then he'd say, "and now this comment," and he'd go on a rant about how the Pats were disrespected in some way. Loved it.

God I loved Gil & Geno. How lucky have we been? Gil and Geno, Johnny, Mike & Tommy, Bob Wilson (possibly the best set of pipes hockey has ever had), Curt Gowdy, Ken Coleman, Ned Martin...
