2019 Mock Drafts

Me too. Shall we set up a business. The Mockery Experts. If we were of the lady variety, we could be The Mockingbirds.

Mockingbirds is a cool name, regardless. What we should do is try to create some app that scrapes the APIs of all the other mock drafts, finds out which players are most frequently mocked, and use that to create a crowd-sourced big board of highly desirable players.

I don't know how my wife would feel about the news, though. She rather likes that I have a stable job at the moment and have left behind the entrepreneurial days of my youth! ;)

What’s an API? :)

Manual all the way for me I’m afraid.

Okay here is my final mock I suppose. This is based on what I think the Pats might do.

41 (trade 32 to Denver for 41 and a future 2nd) Johnathan Abram, S. Bill is seemingly after a bigger defensive back to match up with TEs. Could easily be Joejuan Williams here too. I've picked Abram as he's my binkie but given the rumours I probably should choose Williams.

56 LJ Collier, DE. Not the flashiest pick but fits what we like to do with our DEs. Plays with good power and hands and has some Trey Flowers to him. Could also see someone like Dre'mont Jones here or even D'Andre Walker.

64 Ryan Finley, QB. The first round might be too high but this seems the right spot to take a potential future starter.

73 Mecole Hardman, WR. Electric playmaker with special teams value.

97 Nate Davis, OG/OT, an athletic guard with a chance to play at right tackle too. Pats don't seem to care about height as much as others.

101 Foster Moreau, TE. A quality blocking tight end with much better athleticism than people give him credit for.

134 Diontae Johnson, WR. See Hardman comments. Fits the mould of what we like in a WR.

205 Terez Hall, LB. We've shown interest and fits the special teams ace description while he develops as a LB.

trade 239 and 243 for a future 6th

246 Javier Edwards, DT

252 Nick Allegretti, G (for Manx)

My final mock is going to be very similar. And boy am I going to have egg on my face if they use all 4 7th round picks and don’t take Allegretti.

I wonder who the un-named on-line draft "analyst" is that has been copying/pasting other scouts words and using them as if they were his own...guesses?
Sharks of Vegas?

Incarcerated Bob?

This will probably be my final mock.

32) - TRADE - This will be a trade down. Someone will jump up for the 5th year option. The Pats pick up a 2nd and 3rd.

45) Jerry Tillery - DT- I really think the Pats want to go defense first and this pick is a great spot for it. I would really like any of Jones/Lawrence/Tillery here. All of them would be plus value at this spot. At 40 i'm more apt to gamble and go with the highest upside guy. That is Tillery.

56) Jace Sternberger - TE - I think there's a massive drop off after Sternberger for the most part besides my personal binkie TE pick (Warring) who I really believe in.

64) Will Grier - QB - If he's still here i'm warming up to the idea of taking him. The Pats decided to not pull the trigger last year and I agreed with the call. Grier to me has enough of a chance to succeed to take that shot if he falls here.

73) - TRADE - Traded for a future 2020 2nd round pick. While I hate to do this if it gets offered you need to jump on it. Frankly you didn't want these many rookies in the first place. This gives them room to maneuver next year.

78) Emanuel Hall - WR - Finally they address WR. It becomes less of a need since getting a TE whose really more of a pass catcher and since signing Thomas but they still need help. He's underrated right now IMO. Health issues are a concern but he has first round level talent and is worth a shot here.

97) OL? I think this would be nice. IDK the class well enough but it's always a good idea to get a solid OL prospect.

101) Stanley Morgan Jr - WR - The WR double dip. Morgan is a guy who can play both outside and inside. He has a very savvy and I think can translate very quickly.

134) - EDIT - Changed my mind. I'm picking Kahale Warring - TE here. I don't want to get too greedy and assume he'll be there later.

Then the rest of this draft is whatever it is. I just want to be sure they have enough capital to move around next year and up. They're more likely to get a true stud player in that draft as the top end talent will be deeper by all accounts.

Not a mock draft per se, but these are guys I would like to see on the Pats. I don't think they will draft 12 so I will pick 8.

1. Dalton Risner OT fits a need and if you watch the NFL Network feature on him, he must be on the Pats

2. Andy Isabella WR

3. Chase Winovich Edge/LB

4. Kahlen Saunders DT

5. Drew Sample TE

6. Brett Rypien QB

7. Justin Hollins LB

8. Sutton Smith Football Player

Two more possible late rounders,

Jordan Brailford Edge

Terry Godwin WR

I’m quietly hoping for Sample.

Very cool. I appreciate this approach! Even if we simply got the players listed at our draft slots, I'd be happy with the outcome:

Dexter Lawrence
Parris Campbell
JoeJuan Williams
Kaleb McGary
Isaiah Johnson
Kahale Warring

That's not bad at all, even with the double dip at DB (one could shift to safety). Obviously, we could optimize the picks, but I just wanted to demonstrate the depth of players between 32 and 101, even in a composite board. Pretty neat.

Feel free to mock my mock

32. Will Greir, QB, WV - I'm buying the hype. Positional importance and 5th year option make this pick ok in my book. Garappolo 2.o.
48. Thru MIA (Trade picks 56 and 101) Zach Allen, DL/DE, BC
64. Jace Sternberger, TE, Texas A&M
73. Amani Hooker, S, Iowa
96. Max Sharping, OT, N. Illinois
134. Stanley Morgan Jr., WR, Nebraska
205. Cody Thompson, WR, Toledo
239. Nick Allegretti, OC, Illinois
243. Zach Gentry, TE, Michigan
246. Sutton Smith, OLB, N. Illinois
252. Jacque Strap, OG, Central Louisiana A&M

In Ben Volin's mock, all of these players are still available at 32. Who do you choose?

DL Jeffery Simmons
DL Dexter Lawrence
OL Chris Lindstrom
OL Dalton Risner
QB Daniel Jones
QB Will Grier
WR Marquise Brown
WR AJ Brown

I think it has to be Simmons or AJ Brown. The OL options are good and Lawerence isn't bad either but for me it comes down to those two. I would take Simmons as I love the WR depth in rounds 2-4 and Simmons is a talent the Pats don't usually have a chance at.

I've come around on Simmons too. Which means that for once, we all agree with Ben Volin! ;)

I'm of a similar mind. I'd probably take Simmons to get the 5th year to mitigate against losing his rookie campaign, but I'd be mighty tempted to trade up in the second to grab Lawrence to pair with Simmons. Shades of Wilfork and Seymour?

We've talked of double dipping WRs and TEs but a double dip at DT may be an even better idea. I'd like Lawrence a lot more if we got a pass rushing DT like Simmons/Tillery/Jones next to him.

My first snide remark is that it’s a Ben Volin mock, so I’d expect all of them to be gone by the time 32 arrives.... :)

My first instinct is Dexter Lawrence - he could be a game changer and when you have guys that big and athletic you have to take the chance. But my one hold up is the PED issue; I’m concerned his athleticism is because of PEDs and he won’t have the same effectiveness now that he’s under the NFL drug testing watchful eye.

I’d probably still go with Lawrence. A slight trade down is another option as I’d be happy with a lot of those guys.
