Patriots Pre-Draft Contacts List 2019

Not a visit or workout, but a reported interest.

I wish I liked his tape a little bit more. Still, interesting name at the back end of the 7th -- not a lot of of 6'3, 330 tackles who put up these kind of numbers:

4.97
31 reps
29 vertical
8-10 broad jump
4.83 SS

A question for those knowledgeable about the draft and this is as good a thread as any to put it in.

Did the Patriots have contact with Josh Rosen before the draft last year?

Thanks.

I don’t believe there was anything official but Doug Kyed reported that the Patriots had “expressed interest”.

@reamer

Did you see that Lonnie Johnson had a 4.39 forty at his pro day? I can see why he’s getting late buzz.

I did. Not sure he plays to that speed, but he's intriguing. Lots to like with his tape. Isaiah Johnson is another big athletic corner who could leapfrog the established second tier, although he's more of a project. Either one may sneak into the first. I don't think the best players from this corner class will go the highest. Years two and three will tell a clearer story.

One of the few we haven’t heard about is Dalton Risner. I suspect that’s because they’re comfortable with their grade on him.
I'm a big believer in this. Why waste time on Risner or Wilkins when you know you're getting model prospects that you never have to worry about.

I think 80-90% of these visits are prospects teams like-on the fence & want to learn as much as possible.

I agree completely. The same applies to Lawrence although there was that drug thing. Irv Smith is another. BB would have seen him at the pro day and probably wouldn’t need much more.

As far as Risner goes, the fact that he’s the only late day one/day two OT we haven’t spoken to (that we know of) works in his favour as a potential pick. There aren’t any issues to drafting him.

Would you take Johnson or Joejuan?

My heart says JoeJuan. My head says Isaiah will be better in two years (he just needs reps since he's still new to the position). Barring injury, our top three is set for two seasons, so I'm willing to gamble for greatness.

JoeJuan > Lonnie for me, though. Bacon probably disagrees is my guess.

Daniel Jeremiah suggested Johnson was in play for the Steelers at 20.

Just having a look at the pre draft contacts at Pats Pulpit and the Pats had lots of contact with DEs and DTs at the Senior Bowl and combine.

Also, here’s a list of prospects we’ve had two or more contacts with (not in position order):

Will Grier, QB, W Virginia- Senior, Visit
Ben Banogu, EDGE, TCU - Senior, Visit
Byron Cowart, DE, Maryland - Senior, Visit
Greg Little, OL, Ole Miss - Combine, Visit
Deebo Samuel, WR, S Carolina - Combine, Visit
Noah Fant, TE, Iowa - Combine, Visit

Theoretically could come away with all of those players in the first 101 picks. I wouldn't complain about that haul if that's how it turned out. Thanks for compiling!

I’m seeing quite a few mocks now with Fant falling below 21. Would you do it?
