I'd say 16-0 is an undefeated season. A tragic, pathetic undefeated season.

16-0 followed by a playoff loss ranks you among the classic excruciating "almosts" of sports, up there with the Jim Kelly Bills. If I were a player or coach, I think I'd rather lose a game or two in the regular season than live with that torment for ever after.


But of course, nobody's talking about going undefeated, RIGHT? (Welcome to the board, ALP.)

I believe the NFL--because it separates the playoffs from the regular season from a statistical standpoint**--would consider 16-0 a perfect season.

Most fans, however, would disagree.

**The Pats' official longest-ever win streak, according to the NFL, stands not at 21, but at 18. [BTW . . . didn't the Pats end the 2006 season with three straight wins? ]
