Adrian Clayborn Released

Another solid vet who contributed nicely. It wasn't always perfect but he had his moments and played well in the Charger game.

I randomly sat next to his brother and a few other family members for the bears game. He obviously had that one tough play against Mitch. We bit are tongues at first but his brother was kind of funny not giving him crap exactly but sort of laughing it off as he knew he missed him. He made up for it with a sack later in the day and we gave his brother high fives.

I liked him and will miss him but there are better scheme fits for him and we can do better too.

I'm going to look at some rosters and come up with some possibilities we could be looking at

Eh don’t bother. All roads will lead back to Chris Conley.

They set the bar pretty low.

Don't have to jump over their bar or exert yourself you can literally walk over it like a fake limbo dance.

So with this internal move on Clayborn I wonder if they are in conversations with Gronk next?? Inquiring minds meed to know his impending decision.

I am so happy that we won't see Clayborn break contain and let a QB rush for a first down ever again.

Will the Pats sign a Chargers D-guy now ?

Has it been announced who will be coaching the D-line as of yet ?

I remeber saying he was an underwhelming signing and people told he was playing well. He was then inactive for a couple weeks and now he’s released. Hoping some of these FA/trades work out better than he did.

Can we get Houston now?

Expected, but I'm still sad to see him go, even if I recognize it's better for the team. I've always had a soft spot for Clayborn and the way he's overcome Erb's palsy and had a successful (although not spectacular) pro career despite his physical limitations. He's always been one of my favorite players to watch, dating back to Iowa. He gave it his all in every game and had more than a few pressures that led to good plays for us.

Godspeed, Adrian!

Condolences my man.

The reality is they have a better, cheaper, more versatile rusher on board in Wise who is a lesser liability in early downs. I also liked the signing and like the guy but Clayborn to me was a big disappointment, never learned to play it NE way. Im sure he can find a better place for what he can do.

To me it is a clear addition by subtraction move. Time for Wise to step up further, Rivers showed glimpses that he could be the PTP player we all thought he would be and making his sophomore jump, i like Keionta as you know and love Simon.

And then there's great edge draft coming up..
___

Im not a stat guy as you know but these stats are quite telling (re-posting from yesterday) - and thats for a pure rusher that the stats favour. The film was even more telling. Also remember that Wise was battling injuries throughout the season and most significantly just before playoffs and still outplayed Clayborn by a wide margin. Im not sure Clayborn would see much field in playoffs after benching if Wise was healthy.. So the writing was on the wall

Clayborn -- reg-season -- 2.5 sacks - 11 comb.tackles - 3 TFL - 13 QB.hits
....-- playoffs -- 1 sack - 2 comb.tkl - 1TFL - 5 QB hits

D.Wise -- reg-season -- 4.5 sacks - 30 comb.tackles - 4 TFL - 16 QB hits
unfortunately injured - missed 2 playoff games

He stepped on my tail.

Well they now need to pick up a DE either in FA or the draft. I think they get one in the draft personally. Bennett/Wise/Simon is not really enough, but I would be okay with Bennett and Wise as the starters. They don't need a true impact player just a rotational guy to give the top 2 a break on occasion. It isn't a big worry but something that needs to be taken care of.

I hope Rivers can make it happen but who knows at this point.

Ok I will admit after passing on Flowers I didn't see this coming.
Great post.

Extra-great because it stoppped me from saying something snarky.
