Patriots Tender Jonathan Jones and Josh Gordon

The optics of keeping Gordon while Brown and Flowers walk sux. Obviously the cost is vastly different.

Night and day different, like you said, but yeah, it’s a tough look. WR is a position of need and it would be dumb to pass on Gordon for a couple of million bucks, though.

Is he currently available to be signed?

I wouldn't be shocked if Miami, Detroit or maybe even Tennessee ponies up the second rounder for Jones if they can sign him to a longer term deal. I wonder if Jones looks at it as 3M for this year and then roll the dice on a much bigger deal in a year. He would be much better off doing that in NE to showcase his skills.

That would be great. A second here is better than a 4th round comp pick in 2 years when he leaves next year.

Let those dumb ****s do it. We have the DB depth to let him leave.

Well Detroit have just signed Coleman so I doubt it would be them.

Rather hang on to the guy who covered Tyreek Hill.
It wouldn't surprise me if KC was that team to poach him or any team in the AFC West.

He is gone in a year anyway.

The Josh Gordon decision would indicate that the Pats' front office sees him as returning for at least part of next year, and that they have at least some confidence that he can not violate again.

Are the Pats allowed to do this as a placeholder, while they negotiate a longer term deal with him? I could see them trying to tempt him this year with a 4 year deal, while he's still reasonably cheap.

More than likely
At some point we will spend money to keep our own.
Jonathan Jones is a steal at 3 Mill absolute steal.
I could still see a scenario where we do a long term deal with him in the 7 Mill a year range.

Seems pretty standard/expected. Is the difference in tender amounts due to their positions? Like, does it work like the franchise tag in that way?

Also, does Gordon count against the cap while he's suspended, or does that only kick in if/when he's reinstated?

In today's NFL you can never have too many good corners especially ones who are relatively cheap. I tend to agree Detroit is on the less likely side but Patricia is also trying to flood his system with Patriot team first guys. I don't know enough about Jones to say if he's a leader or not but that's definitely why he was willing to overpay a bit for Flowers and DA.

While I don't want to overpay for Jones I'd rather they lock him up long term. You can never have enough CBs in this league. Yes our depth looks great now but all it takes is an injury or two and that complexion changes rapidly. Also you're going to be looking at both McCorty's, assuming Jason returns, and Chung all being turned over in the next 2-3 years so the stability would help.

Overall I agree and think he's probably played his way out of town. Just saying don't discount what he brings so quickly.
