2019 Combine

Stanley Morgan WR Nebraska:

Senior
Team captain
6' 202 lbs.
4.53 40 yard dash
38.5" vertical
10'5" broad
4.13 SS
6.78 3 cone

McKewon: There's a reason Stanley Morgan is one of the best receivers in Husker history

"Morgan is talented, yes. But he’s more of a blue-collar player than anything else. He puts in the work. He’s excited for practice. He puts out positive energy all the time, coach Scott Frost said, which is why he’s one of the team captains without being overly rah-rah as a teammate.

“Best part about Stan is he loves football,” Frost said. “Every day at practice, he’s got a smile on his face.”

I don't know much about his game but he fits the Patriots profile.

Wasn't Irving Fryar from Nebraska?? Is there a better omen or anything so eerie.

From June when I was looking at top 100/PTP

45) Stanley Morgan WR/Nebraska – Morgan and A Richards are very similar players. A little undersized but able to beat press, accelerate in/out of his breaks and work all levels. Both are very smooth players. And both run the NFL routes to move the chains and can stretch the field.

Few others

42) (PTP) Noah Fant TE/Iowa –
Big, easy moving target that looks like a nightmare to cover screaming down the seem. Not only a big target but Fant has + athleticism & should be a top 50-60 next year, if not the 1st TE off the board. Fant is a glider that will get on top of a defense quick if he’s not physically impeded. Fant could also blow up the combine as well if reports about his numbers in the vertical and short shuttle are correct (40+ vert/3.95) Again don’t ignore the obvious here, connections from Iowa and the need for another top flight tight end very soon.

39)(PTP) Dalton Risner OL/Kansas St – Risner’s versatility will be talked up all year as it should. He has played all 5 positions but is probably best suited inside as a C/G. He has real finesse in pass pro but also the overall toughness needed in the run game and to play in the trenches. Risners health will be key as he was hurt throughout last year. Risner looks like a plug & play run blocker w/ quick choppy feet & the nastiness to get after defenders to the whistle. He has to get stronger to take on top-tier power players at the next level but has shown a ton of promise so far. Effort and “want to” aren’t a problem.

Kahale Warring and T.J. Hockenson have each other as 88% comps a mockdraftable. Warring is a developmental prospect which would be useful if Gronk is coming back for another year.

Top two comps for Terry McLaurin are Bethel Johnson and Chad Jackson. Bear in mind these are physical and athletic comps only :)

Offensive players I like post combine:

Qb’s - none. Why would we waste a draft pick on any of these guys.

Rb - Singletary. I think we need a bigger running back to team with Michel.

Te - sternburger and Moreau. Allen is gone and gronkowski is a shadow of his former self. Holister is always injured.

Ot- McGrady and Hyatt really impressed me.

Og - this was a good group with a half dozen guys that could play for us.

C - piercebacker from Alabama seems like a perfect patriot.

Wr - Hardman, mcluarin, and Boykin are in my draft board.

Hollister was injured a lot this year, and still played 8 games. He played in 15 games last year.

Tons of interesting info here. I will say not to take it too far, though. I still like Ridley, for example, despite a poor showing. I've always been a big fan of Morgan, so it's good to see him do well. Boykin tested absurdly well, but I never saw more than flashes from him on the field. Anyway, one more piece of the puzzle for evaluation and grading.

Great job Foster Moreau looks the part what a nice Sleeper he may be much better than regarded. Definitely Y TE here and no slouch at Catching either.

Just watched some Ridley. He’s good. Can easily see him here. I think I’d go with Deebo over him just because I think Deebo is made for a McDaniels offense but Ridley would be a nice outside receiver for us.

Welcome abroad manman his Brother had success in the NFL as a Rookie last year. That was one of Ridley's major selling points for me. But Deebo with his suddenness would really Excell here Big time. Brady might want to quit at 50.

I'd recommend watching Gary Jennings, Stanley Morgan, DaMarkus Lodge, Dillon Mitchell, and the Ohio State crew. I could see all of those players here.

Morgan I particularly liked before the season; I've remained impressed with his understanding of how to respond to scramble drills, where to sit vs zone, his ability to disguise his stems and use head fakes, etc. He is one of the better college players I've seen at setting up defenders and cutting against their leverage. He makes it look simple but not flashy.

Mitchell reminds me a little of OBJ (numbers are similar except OBJ was elite in SS and 3-cone). I was surprised he didn't do the 3-cone, and that his shuttle was so mediocre, because he's electric on the field and just looks so fluid. I've heard some rumors about maturity concerns, but that's the only reason I haven't had him higher on my board.

Jennings is super smooth and productive. He just gets playing WR. I think he's a better LaFell.

Lodge disappointed me a little today. I thought he'd be a 4.4 guy with the way he's able to get onto corner's toes and turn them in coverage. Regardless, he has maybe the best body control for acrobatic sideline catches of anyone in this class.

Campbell and McLaurin would be fun to watch here. Good YAC guys.

Stanley Morgan's 6.78 3 cone just screams Patriots-type wide receiver.

That said, I still like Deebo a little better but I wouldn't mind Morgan as a consolation prize.

Isabella seems like more of a Brandin Cooks type. But getting a deep field stretcher would add something to the WR group that we currently don't have. Isabella being a 4 year UMass player and running a 4.31 40 doesn't hurt either.

Would have liked a better 3-cone but McLaurin has Patriot written all over him. Super athletic (top 95th percentile), team captain, A+ character and top level special teamer. Not convinced, on limited watching, he’s one of the better WRs but I have him pencilled in for a Matthew Slater part deux. Still, I’ve been doing this long enough that prospects I’ve thought were dead certs for the Pats (Kittle, Justin Reid and that Navy QB) went elsewhere. The other issue with McLaurin is value. Early day three for me or late third at the earliest. I’d also want someone who could be a more regular starter level WR addition too either by FA or draft.

Still, he’ll go on the mock probably.

Love Deebo. He’d be a great get if they don’t bring back Cordarrelle. Different sizes, and Deebo looks to be more accomplished as a strict WR, but I do get a Cordarrelle vibe from Deebo’s Game.
