NFL Media draft expert Daniel Jeremiah: QB Daniel Jones 'would make a lot of sense' for Patriots at No. 32

The buzz connecting Duke quarterback Daniel Jones to the Patriots is increasing by the day.

Daniel Jeremiah: "He's somebody that's just -- he's very bright. He's going to be able to kind of swallow the information you're going to have to swallow in that offense in due time. He's got touch and accuracy, does not have a huge arm, but just a real smooth rhythm quarterback, which is something they value in a big way.

Interesting, even if it's a "fake buzz." LOL

One downside: he won't be able to handle the inevitable comparisons...

...he's not as pretty as Jimmy. :)

I think the only way the Pats take a QB in the first round is if they think he's a top 5 talent who fell.

No offense Elijah, but you are just guessing here. Nobody knows what Belichick is thinking about ANY prospect. Let's wait until after the Combine. That being said, there was a lot of alleged smoke about Lamar Jackson last year. I think people write articles just to write them. The Pats are VERY secretive.

Yeah, by the time day 1 rolled around last year, I'm pretty sure we were linked to just about every player taken in the top 40, and were willing to trade up for him. No one knows.

I just love being able to debate on who we select at pick #32. That's always a good feeling.

You could say that about literally any post in this thread including the article. The difference is the authors of all these "Pats 1st round QB is gonna happen for real this year I swear guys" articles we've been seeing since at least 2015 are assuming Brady is about to retire. He's not. We as Patriots fans should know this and stop giving these misinformed authors a platform.

If we used this criteria for making posts, there wouldn't be a fan discussion board anymore!

Picking at 32 is just amazing. I can’t get enough of it.

I dunno if they draft this player, but I’d not be surprised with a first round QB. Maybe this QB is still around when they pick earlier in round 2... I’d think 32 is a good place for a QB as it affords you that fifth year.

DL is supposedly deep. MAYBE they go QB at 32 and DL once in bothers the 2nd and 3rd...

Agreed. #32 is my favorite draft slot.

I’d be disappointed if we drafted this guy at all, never mind in the first round.

2020 is shaping up to be a much better class for QBs, wait and fill other key holes this year.

This isn't grocery shopping. If BB sees someone in this draft that he thinks he can work with I'm not gonna lose any sleep about the greener grass on the other hill.

The key is a QB who can learn to operate in the system, minimize mistakes, and that can give the OC enough tools to work with to construct a potent offense. I don't care who that QB is as long as he ticks those boxes, is there a guy who could be a little better, of course, there always is, but we thought that about Brady for years too. As long as BB gets a guy who can operate the offense at a competent level, I won't care if there are "better" QBs out there. It'll be like a return to 01-06

Sure but Jones at #32, really?!

I’d feel better with Grier or Rypien in the later rounds.

I don't care. They're so much meat to me until they actually prove that they can NFL. I don't care about picking a guy high. I care about getting a guy that BB can work with that gives the team enough tools to win. If that happens, then the draft pick we used to obtain the guy is an afterthought at best.

If we "reach" for a pick, and it works, then it wasn't a reach.

"reaching" relative to draft position only matters when it doesn't result in a competent NFL contributor, and in that case, a bust is a bust no matter when he was drafted

Sweating this whole draft science thing is really not worth my time and energy and I won't pretend to be competent on the subject. I file that whole mess under "details" and sweating the details is BB the GM's job, not mine.

We won the SB with over half our picks not even contributing due to injury... This year, though some defections are likely, not only does NE have many many picks, they are getting a slew of 2018 picks as well.

Hopefully this restock keeps the ball rolling for the next half decade.

right?

I read these threads just to get a feel for what everyone thinks about prospects, but I don't know of anyone who'd nailed who they are gonna take. I am sure someone will post a link to an old post where they knew we'd take Isiah Wynn and Sony Michel in round one last year. It seems like a fun thing for us to do, but BB always does something that no one saw coming.

I get this, and it makes sense, but after 18+ years with the GOAT do you think ‘competent’ is all we should be after? Why can’t we aim for a polished ‘NFL ready’ first round QB to take over?

Because that means aiming for a top-3 draft pick? :)

Honestly, "competent" as a Brady stand-in for, say, half a dozen games in case of injury is pretty darned valuable and not easy to find.
