Pre Super Bowl Thread- On to the Rams

Going to try to give some input here based on my observations at the Rams-Donks game earlier this season. I picked that game since I knew the Rams would be a Super Bowl contender. You can look at the box score and the one thing that jumps out is of course Todd Gurley. He rushed for over 200 yards. (208). Most of which were in the first half. He was an absolute beast and Denver had no answer for him.

Even with that dominate rushing performance Denver was still in this game. They had their chances. Those chances however were derailed by the LA defense. Not many sacks (2) but they drew several offensive holding calls that pushed the Denver defense out of scoring range. Also a HUGE 4th down sack that ruined another drive. So pressure and holding calls is all it took. Donald and company were able to stop several drives that way.

There was also a Donks TD called back due to a Sanders taunting penalty. It was BS in my opinion but it showed that this vaunted D can be scored on.

What does this tell us? It just confirms that the Pats D needs to make stopping the run a priority. Healthy or not Gurley and Anderson need to be contained. Also keeping Brady clean in the pocket by preventing sacks and hits without drawing drive killing holding penalties is also mandatory. Once again we have discussed this but line play is the key.

These are points that of course have been made all week but I wanted to share my first hand observations of this "superstar" team. The crappy Denver Broncos were a few holding calls and a sack away from possibly beating them. Seems like alot but if one of those drives succeeds they could have won this game.

I would expect the Pats offense to out perform Case Keenum and company with the exception of Sanders. The Pats don't have an impact WR like him on the team. Just what I can remember from this game.
A TD overturned for taunting. NFL 2018.

This is why I'd be willing to put an extra defender in the box at the expense of doubling Cooks (or whoever) like we did with Hill. The Rams' pass offense is good but not as dangerous as the Chiefs' - and the Rams' run offense is more dangerous than the Chiefs'. With a good secondary, I'd risk a couple extra 30 yard passes to getting dominated on the ground.

Some alarming stats that show just how PISS POOR the Patriots defense has been the last FOUR super bowls. All the talk of the Rams dline, Pats oline, etc., it will come down to how well this edition of the Patriots defense plays against the pass.
We can't expect Brady to play a perfect game. We can't expect the Patriots to go 60% on third down as they've averaged their first 2 playoff games this season. The Super Bowl pass defense HAS to stop playing like absolute dog ****ing schitt.
In the last four Pats' SB, they've allowed opposing quarterbacks to KILL them - even in their wins. In the last 4 SB, the Patriots defense has allowed an average of 300 yards passing, a completion % of 68.0, 2 touchdowns, a statistically insignificant # of interceptions (0.25), and qb rating of 116.2, and and a mind boggling yards per attempt of 9.44 - that's ludicrous.
Also, in the last 4 SB the Patriots are -3 in turnover ratio (3+, 6-). At some point the defense has to make a big turnover on Sunday if the defense is going to continue to SUCK in the Super Bowl.
If we see Goff converting third downs early it's going to be a long day for the defense. Also, Pats have given up huge chunk plays in each of the last 4 SB - 55, 44, 45, 38 yard long completions and the Pats offense hasn't countered the big plays (outside of last year). Pats long pass plays prior to last year's SB were 28, 23, 21.
I always hope we'll see something different from the Pats defense in the SB, but they've generally played like crap for at least half of every super bowl since 2007.

Your lats are almost as shhittty as your posts.

Do you guys think at least one of Hogan, Dorsett or Patterson plays a significant role on Sunday? Jules and Gronk are going to get attention and we know what the 3 RBs can do, but what about these three WRs? They’ve all had solid postseasons in supporting roles and Hogan especially has been pretty good the last 2 SBs. Dorsett is also the only Patriot who’s caught a TD pass from Brady so far in the playoffs. Patterson had a big KO return against KC and might feature into the ground game on Sunday.

Hmmm. In some ways rams are potent like KC but .. and this is my concern, Patriots are facing them for first time .

No doubt the film study is essential but I'm not sure pats can make huge adjustments . I'm just planning on Goff being more typical of young QB than stud he was in regular season. Hopefully looking like mahomes in first half last week..

The more i think about this game the more comfortable I feel about it. I just don't think the Rams will stop our offense enough.

While the Ram have been good against pass catching RBs this year White will get his. Kamara proved they can be taken advantage of and Brady to White hasn't been stopped all year when we wanted to do it really.

They have no answer for Gronk. The only guy who can cover him is Talib and that would be a big mistake. If they go Talib on Gronk I think we go 3 WRs. Force them to put 6 or 7 DBs on the field and then run them over going towards which ever side Gronk is lined up on. If we choose to pass then then I like all our other WR match ups with Talib occupied.

I think the only issue the Pats have is they won't be able to run up the middle. Don't try to. As for our OL vs their DL I think their DL is being a bit over hyped. It's good but it is below KC overall. Everyone freaked out about Donald needs to remember we stopped Chris Jones who isn't a huge step below Donald. As for their other DL players they have a number of good ones but lets not get silly. Their DEs leave a lot to be desired. Brookers played about 750 snaps and has 1 sack. I know sacks aren't the end all be all but that is pretty horrible. Yes he is a big DE who focuses on run stopping but you can't not get to the QB. As for Fowler he is a bit overrated. He is pretty good but not a pro bowl level player.

Our OL has held up against better pass rushing lines and will do so again. As for the run that is dependent on how the Rams want to attack us. They could choose to take it away if they really want IMO. But that wouldn't be a good idea IMO. It forces LBs on both Gronk/White and it isn't like Peters is reliable in any 1v1 match up.

I think the Patriot score in the 30s on the Rams and there isn't much they can do the stop it. The question is do we let them drop 40 on us? I don't think that happens again.

Pats showed up to Atlanta wearing business suits. Rams were wearing track suits.
I heard on the radio the Rams were really struggling with all of the SB arrangements and preparations while the Pats are basically on auto-pilot.

Hopefully the Rams feel overwhelmed and also invest too much time and energy this week in all the SB festivities and we get the blowout we all want.

My boy Albert A Jets fan is in Atlanta for the Superbowl he ran into Gurley at a strip club this morning Gurley was drunk as hell at about 3am when my friend tried to talk to him he ran out leaving his area a mess my friend said.
Hope he keeps that laser focus up until the big game.
He keeps sending me pictures of Patriots he's right there at media day says Slater is a nice dude.
I keep living thru him waiting on pics.

I've learned not to believe unnamed friends of strangers on the internet, but I WANT this to be true. I heard that the Rams were having trouble scrambling with all the logistics of going to the Super Bowl last week, so I'm just hoping all of this is a sign that the experience advantage of the Patriots this year is a real one.

Yeah but that’s wishful thinking for all of us. If everyone on offense and defense comes out and does what they’re supposed to do, we will win but I’m much more cautious this year than last year because I was confident and it didn’t work out because our secondary went missing

We lost the Superbowl last year because Eric Rowe and Jordan Richards.
Neither are strapping up
I feel good about the D.

I've been seeing this a lot lately and I get where you're coming from, but our thoughts /feelings/premonitions etc. have nothing to do with the game. Agreed on if they execute as they're capable of they should win, but last year's loss has little to do with this year besides providing extra motivation and focus for the Patriots IMO.

Alshon Jeffrey is a beast. He’s a mismatch for almost any secondary. Do the rams have a guy like that? I mean cooks is good but he’s not as big as Jeffrey

Closest guy they have is Woods and I'm confident Gilmore can shut him down 1 on 1. Cooks will get the Hill treatment (jones + over the top safety help) and he's not nearly the threat that Hill is. The more I consider this matchup, the more confident I feel.

I feel like the wild card is their TE matchups. HIgbee and Everett are really solid TE's that can cause problems although they haven't done anything noteworthy all year, just real solid players. I feel like there's always a wild card in our SB matchups, guys that you don't really consider that have good games. Those are the two I'm worried about with our matchups.
