this exercise is players as they were vs players of today.

What are adams Extra points for when he was a patriot?
Adam was 367-374 for the Patriots, obviously all under the old XP rules.
Gost was 502-503 under the old XP rules.

98.1% vs. 99.8%

still, advantage Gost

That was my point. Adam never kicked an extra point as a pat that wasn’t a 10 yarder. Gost never missed at that distance either. The rules changed,

Including playoffs, Adam missed 4 extra points this year, Gost missed one.

In the three seasons since the XP was moved back,
Gost is 140-146 (95.9%) playing almost all games outdoors
Adam is 110-115 (95.7%) playing a majority of games indoors

Gost is better at kicking XPs than Adam
Adam can't do kickoffs

Gost all day.
Until we get to the AFCCG in Denver or the Super Bowl.

Because Gostkowski has missed some costly kicks (extra points)

All kickers miss sometimes.

Vinatieri missed two FG's in a SB and another that may have cost the Pats a playoff spot. I also watched him miss a pretty important FG in the Indy at KC game a couple weeks ago.

Right now Gost is making 87.4% of his FG's, which is 5.5 % higher than the 81.9% that AV had here and 3.1% beter than AV's overall 84.3%.

In the 30-39 yard range and the 50+ range Gost is ahead by 7%. That's in spite of AV spending almost as much time indoors in his career as Gost has spent here.

Even in his prime AV couldn't kick nearly as far as Gost and if we kept him we'd have to carry another player to do the kickoffs, just as Indy has to do now.

You asked in what world would anyone choose Gostkowski over Vinatieri. I would say the answer to that question is in the real world.

I guess you're too young to remember 2003 when Adam missed two, count 'em two, FG's in the SB.

2001 Terry Glenn or 2018 Josh Gordon

I remember. I also remember him kicking the game winner.

I forgot. On this forum all the current players are always better than any of the former players.

Plenty of former players have been picked in this thread.

Vinatieri vs Gostkowski -- Gostkowski. Bigger Leg.

Troy vs Jules - Very Close, but I'll pick Edelman. Both fantastic punt returners, but Edelman is better. Troy Brown has better hands, Edelman has better quickness and elusiveness. I'd be fine with either.

Faulk vs White - I'll take Faulk, solely because he could run between the tackles, and carry the running load in a pinch. White's faster, White has better hands and is a better route runner - both are terrific pass blockers.

Rodney vs Devin - Rodney ****ing Harrison, finally an easy one.

Tedy vs Dont'a - This is 01, 03, 04 Bruschi? Then Bruschi, he was a bit faster. Post-stroke Bruschi was still a good player, but Higjhtower was better at his peak.

Weis vs McDaniels - McDaniels, hands down. Loved Charlie Weis, but way too conservative at times.

Brady (then) vs Brady (now) - Brady now.

Law vs Gilmore -Law because of his playmaking, but I think Gilmore is a better pure cover guy.

Izzo vs Slater - Slater is the GOAT special teamer.

Bethel Johnson vs Phillip Dorsett - Dorsett, easily. Johnson was fast, but he had pizza paddles for hands.
