What round should Brady have been drafted in 2000?

Brady was a big game qb in college. Beat Ohio State which is something you don’t see very often out of Michigan.

Beat Penn State and Alabama as underdogs.

Definitely something about his mental makeup that was overlooked by everyone.
Yeah but **** Rehbein only had to see the tapes to realize Tom was special.

The NFL is stupid.

One wonders if he would have had the same success if he had been taken in the second round. Quite possibly, but as we know, being 199 has been a huge motivating factor.
If not for the Pats he clearly would not have been drafted at all.

A walk-on, free agent. Somewhere.

Can't see a kid of his character and determination just giving up after draft day.

Now, you can understand his loyalty to the Pats.

We were the only one.

All future pro-bowlers should have been drafted in Round 1.

without hindsight, considering only what was known about Brady based on Michigan, when she he have been drafted?

I still don’t see how he should not have been drafted before some of the “Brady 6 or 5”. Whatever it was.

Maybe 3rd round?

Well, Tom is not a great natural athlete and there’s dozens of other QBs who have the same physical stature and they are average to below average. His secret is his smarts and how on the money his release is.

It’s tragic Mr. Rehbein never had the opportunity to see how great his choice for a developmental QB actually was. Thank you, sir.
He wanted to be drafted by the Niners. Instead they drafted some guy named Giovanni or something. He was a bust.

I will never forget his contribution to this franchise.

Neither will Tom.

Based on his play in college, the 3rd round the latest. He was clutch in college, he posted good stats, he was a winner.
He may have been a winner, but he was not a starter. The coaches who knew him best didn’t show him any great regard.

I’d say fourth round at best. Maybe not that high. A QB desperate team would have found a better candidate already before turning to him, other teams would just be looking for potential added value after filling all their more urgent needs. So, not very much higher than he did go, absent hindsight. The draft is an efficient market.

Pats front office was considering Tim Rattay and Brady. They knew quickly that they had selected the right guy but they weren’t in the market for a qb in 2000. Brady slipped through the cracks and you bet there’s teams out there who very much regret passing on him and he lets them know every week.

Good thing we got him.

If Brady went in the 7th round his shoulder chip would be so big he’d have won a dozen Super Bowls before his rookie contract was up.
