Sutton has blown a 28 point lead, and a 18 point lead in the playoffs (Reid and Smith share some blame here). Our total defense has been bottom five for the last three years. The only thing saving the 2016 team was turnovers and a good secondary

Patriots played good defense. They have no edge rusher and still got sacks

The Chiefs offense is electric (scored 565 points, only behind 2013 Broncos and 2007 Pats), and Mahomes uses his vision and athleticism to beat you even when you have a perfect plan.

Pats had a good plan but Mahomes is a freak, and it’s hard to keep him down for long, even with a good gameplan.

If you trade Hill or Kelce for a defensive stud player on the back end I doubt Mahomes will need to score 30 points to win every game. Just saying that you can't have it all.

Lets face facts.

Your LBs and secondary are not very good. West was coming along. Nelson is ok. You safeties are lousy. Fuller was good but the broken hand limited him. You don't have the players to stop the run.

Sutton may not be good but from 2015 to now your D has gotten worse every year because of talent leaving.

It’ll take more than a defensive stud. If we trade those two we have an average offense and an average/above average defense.

Well then you need to accept the defense for what it is. When Hill and Mahomes get paid you aren't going to have much money to spend on defense. You better get use to a substandard defense unless you get lucky in the draft.

It was kind of a tongue in cheek response. I was trying to point out that while they score a lot of points and their D lets them down, part of the reason that happens is cause they have such good offensive players.

At least usually that is the reason. It is rare to have both a loaded offense and defense. If a team wants to keep guys like Hill and Kelce you need to accept it will keep you from having a ton of defensive talent. Cause that is how the salary cap era tends to work.

Regarding Sutton, I always thought he was overrated.

As a replacement for Flores, wouldn’t shock me if the day comes that BB starts grooming his son for that role.

Ryan has never once done this. His defenses performed well early with top-tier talent, and then they got worse every year. Just take a look at his time with the Jets and Bills. He inherited great defenses and ruined them.
